Happy Day All!
Phyl - Thinking about you petting the kitties and dogs at the humane society. Isn't it great?
PeggySue - I cut my left little finger with the clippers when cutting satsumas. I think the bandaid sticking over the end was why I kept losing posts and making mistakes last week. Hope your cut is healing quickly.
Dayle - I'm so very, very sorry to hear about your bad reaction to the root canal. Hope it's better. Try to stop and breathe to relax and not get too wound up on everything you have to do. Slow and steady, my friend.
Emily - I think I told you how much I like your picture, but it still makes me smile so I'll mention it again! So much love there! Would have loved to watch y'all make cookies!
BettyJ - Yorkies are so cute! Smart, too. They do have to be trimmed, though. Is it a puppy?
Connie - no worries about the Toledo misunderstanding. See, I misunderstood what you were saying. It happens. I think you have a bunch of snow from watching the news?
Geri - love those long conversations with old friends. Christmas seems to make those happen more.
Marilyn - did you get all your needed pieces and parts before it rained?
Pat - VERY glad DH is doing so well. That must be such a relief to you both. Oh - I do stop and put my feet up and relax - probably too often if the truth be told. Happy Birthday a day late to your friend - I know she appreciates you.
Linda - DH and I really need to looking into a living trust rather than a will. I've heard it makes things a whole lot easier. Thanks for reminding me! Love the mental picture of Micki jumping in the leaves!
Everything really went fairly well at the eye surgeon yesterday. This may sound strange, but DH's vision has deteriorated a bit - but it's because of the cataracts, not the surgery. Apparently after surgery for a detached retina and macula, cataracts form more rapidly. I already have an appointment for him in FL the middle of Jan. The surgeon said his vision should improve significantly once they're removed. That's good news!
We made a quick trip to Costco (DH even stayed in the car with his dilated eyes) and to the butcher shop. Got a lot of soup at the former, as well as a couple of gifts. Worked well.
DS and DDIL are coming for supper so I still have to go to the grocery store today. DH wants me to make twice baked potatoes to go with the steaks we got. We've never done them, but he saw a recipe in the paper when we were in FL. Does anyone know if you can make those ahead of time and just heat them up? Would that be okay?
If it's warmer, I'll be going to the shelter in the morning. Right now it's 20 deg! Anyway, if I haven't started by about 8:30, I'm gone!
Have a great day everyone and remember the reason for the season.
Cheers!

Good morning all. 0630 and 26 degrees in NW Tn. Linda does her Family Christmas Dinner tomorrow (Saturday). There will be a large group (over 2 dozen) here, and we will have it in the garage. So, today I get the Kerosene Heaters ready and clean out the garage. Since we just did this for Thanksgiving, not to big a job today. Mostly, for me, it's just getting tables and chairs set up. Linda has to handle the cooking. But she loves that. Regardless, should keep me busy.

Happy Friday
Dayle - Do hope the swelling has gone down and you are feeling much better.
Emily - Prop those feet up so you can enjoy the holidays. I'd love to test the oatmeal raisin cookies. Love them.
Connie - I call him the paper man. Also say mailman, though sometimes it is a woman.
Pat - Happy Birthday to 99 yer old Sylvia yesterday. Great that she had her hair done on her special day.
Geri - Nice that your snow birds have returned and you can have lots of fun with them again.
Betty J - Friend says Yorkies are great but need to be brushed regularly.
Penny - Good news about DH eye. Laser surgery on my cataracts was really easy.
Finger healed enough so took off the band aid. No excuse now for typing mistakes.
Everyone have some Fun in your day.

I just found this board through Kitty at Less of a Better Me. I have missed the old WW boards and I am happy to find this one. I am at goal but working hard to stay there and I would like to lose another 10 pounds over the next year but I am not in a hurry for that. Right now Christmas cookies are a temptation. I have finished my baking and will be packing them up to give away early next week. Temptations this week are a Christmas party at our pastor's home this afternoon, dinner out and a show tomorrow night and after church on Sunday we are packing up cookies for those who are not able to get out and then more coffee and cookies afterward. Gail - welcome to Roll Call! Happy to have someone new. If you will, tell us a little about yourself. I'm Penny and live in two places - NW Georgia and NW FL. I'm retired from Civil Service, having worked for the Air Force for 30 years. Like many of us on Roll Call, I love dogs and volunteer at two different shelters in NW GA.
Once again, glad to have you.

Good morning. Welcome Gail. I'm bettyj from the frozen state of MN.
The Yorkie we're getting is a puppy. He is only 6 weeks old so we can't have him until the 1st of Jan. I know it's going to be work to train, brush etc but DH said he would help and he is so excited about having a dog again. Our kids are making this our Christmas present and will pay a good share of the cost. We're not naming him until we see him. Our DGS wants to be sure we don't name him something dumb so he's making a list of appropriate names.
Another snow storm on the way today and tomorrow. Doesn't sound like we'll be going to our family Christmas celebration tomorrow. I'm going to wait until late today to make my appetizers or maybe even tomorrow morning. Not even sure about going to rehab today. Heavy snow is suppose to start this afternoon so we may cancel the appt. I hate driving in snow.
Didn't sleep well last night. I think our supper bothered my stomach. bettyj

Good morning, Rollers! I have seen the weather on the news and don't envy any of you up North or in the Midwest. We complain when it gets down to 50. Just a bunch of wimps.
Dayle, I hope you are better today, take it easy.
Penny, I had cataract surgery a long time ago, it's a snap and instant vision.
I need a trip to Costco, but it's right next door to a huge shopping center and the traffic during the holidays is horrendous. My across the street neighbor works there and will pick up essentials for me like K cups and Brenna's treats. I will go after the holidays. I haven't made twice baked potatoes in a long time, one of my favorites. I think you could heat them up before serving. I'm just wondering if you should wrap them in foil while heating. So they don't dry out. Maybe someone else could have better info.

Morning All!
Welcome Gail! I hope you join us and become a member of morning roll call family! My name is Dayle and I live in North East corner of NJ, about 10 minutes north of the George Washington Bridge.
I’m a bit better than yesterday – thank you all for the good wishes. Went back to the dentist yesterday and to be on the safe side, I’m on antibiotics for a week. I’m still puffy, but the swelling is going down, so I guess I’ll live. My sinuses are letting me know they are not pleased! My balance is bad anyway, so now I have to be careful making sharp turns and stuff. Bending down is not nice, not nice at all! Sleeping (laying flat) wasn’t fun either.
Betty J, congratulations on your new puppy. I had a male Yorkie, growing up. His name was Magee, which meant “fiery one” in the baby book we had. It was very appropriate. He was a giant dog in a tiny body, fierce and fearless, but a real cream puff at the same time. He lived to be 17 and was well known in the neighborhood for keeping all the big dogs in line. They need to be groomed, just like most dogs with long hair. But if you get them used to it early and find someone you trust, it’s not a problem. Some people keep their hair short, I think they call it a “puppy cut”, and then taking care of them is no problem. If it’s a boy, they don’t need the long fancy hair dos anyway. Either way, lots of love, a firm hand (they are terriers after all) and you will have the best of the best. I am so happy for you. Nothing warms your heart more than a small hairy butt snuggled close to you.
Pat glad to hear DH is starting to feel better. It was a long haul, wasn’t it? Maybe now you both can enjoy the holidays.
Penny I hope what the eye doctor said about DH’s eye is true and that this will improve his sight. That’s kind of weird that cataracts would accelerate after surgery like that. I believe it, but weird. I’m sure your husband is not pleased with more delays. I don’t know if I would be that patient either.
Well today is just too cold to go out – wind chills are in the teens and lower. Tonight its supposed to snow and then change to rain tomorrow morning. By Sunday we’re supposed to be in the high 50s. I am not going to be too ambitious today, just not enough energy, have to rest up for the marathon next week. The count for Christmas Eve is now up to 18 and I am feeling a bit overwhelmed.
Make it a good day everyone.
Dayle

It's 12° Feels like -1° or so "they" say. I have cleaned the house, ran sweeper at least. The feral kitty sure doesn't like the sweeper running, when I did the bathroom where she stays she flew under my bed. so now all the stuff is in there. I do close the door as my cats and her do NOT get along. But it is too cold for her outside. she loves me but that is about it!! Eating good and using the litter box so I am okay with her being in here. Even combed her a bit the other night but she was not a happy camper for that for long. amazing she has no fleas. I did put some Frontline on her just before I brought her inside.
I am off to lunch today. My friend has therapy at 11 so 1:00 is okay with me. Gives me time to do the things I was too tired to do last night. did get all the cards done, and a few presents wrapped. the ones that I needed boxes for. No one gives them out anymore so if you want them have to buy them. did get some at Big Lots last year and will use them up. flimsy things that they are!!
We are to get Snow and then Ice so tomorrow is going to be nasty out there. Driving is always worse with the ice and the black ice especially. glad my girls do not have to go to work tomorrow. Ice on power lines not a good thing either. Going to be 44 tomorrow. down right spring like.

Gail, I have been a widow for 16 years and my DH passed away much too young. I still in a smaller home that I bought after he passed and so far doing well. I do most of my outside work with little help from DSIL and also a lawn guy that mows and plows for me. My 2 daughters live in the area and nice to have family around although the Grandkids are scattered a bit. so holidays are sometimes a lot different than they used to be when they were little. but so goes our lives.
I love to read and have 2 cats. One a Calico that is 8 years old and ended up with adopting my DGSs cat when he went off to college. She is now 20 years old and a very tiny feisty all black kitty. She keeps me busy with groomer etc. as her claws have to be cut every 4 weeks and fur mats shaved off her tummy. she hates those areas touched and lets you know, so hence the groomer.
I still drive but with the bad roads in W.Pa when we get a lot of snow or ice, it is a little different in winter than rest of year when I am on the go a lot. Welcome and I am a fairly new poster on Roll Call as well. Very nice and welcoming people on here.

Good morning, A nice clear morning, rained all day yesterday, had some flooding here and there...finally quit raining about 7. It's chilly this morning but should warm up and be in the 50s this afternoon. Some of us sissies think that's chilly. DH slept good and had a nice shower this morning and is wearing 'real' clothes as he calls them instead of his lounging pants....says those are for sick people. And that is the only time he wears them. Yesterday he slept almost all of the day, I'm sure that's a good thing because he hadn't slept much since his surgery on Tues. Says he feels almost like 'himself' again. Hi Gail, welcome to our group, great people to start the day with, they get me smiling early....that's not easy, I'm not a morning person. I'm from Sebastopol, Ca. 60mi. north of SanFran. Not real cold here most of the time, at least by afternoon. Penny, glad DHs eyes are better....hope his sight gets where he's comfortable soon. Dayle, good to hear you are somewhat better, hope it won't be long until you feel great again. Yes, it has been a long haul for DH...one infection after another since his surgery in June....doc says it was probably the stones....blocks off passages and causes problems. Hope it stops now. He's tired of it all. He is not a sitter, likes to be doing things and play tennis. Hoping he'll be healthy and strong and ready for that again by spring. Peggy, when I have twice baked potatoes for the family, I do them the day before, put them in a large buttered casserole and cover with foil and stick them in the refrigerator over night. BTW, I have a recipe for a potato casserole that has the same ingredients but don't have to bother with individual spuds. I like it to save time....keeps in the fridge for days. The birthday girl never made it here, so we took cupcakes with candles on a birthday paper plate over to her when it stopped raining and sang Happy Birthday to her and she blew out the candles and had a smile from ear to ear. Her hair looked pretty...she's still a blond you know. Only her hairdresser knows. LOL We surprised her...so much fun. She had gifts come in the mail from family and lots of phone calls to. She was happy. She deserves it...she's a sweetheart. Better get going, the day is moving along without me, and haven't even had my meds yet or taken my shower...not sure why that matters with no appointments, but my Mama always said it does. ") I hope you all have a happy day. Pat

Good morning everyone,
After much thought I cancelled the order this morning for the hand held shower in guest bathroom. So we will just have only the normal shower head. The store gave me the part number needed. Online while I was trying to order it found a couple negative reviews about it leaking and hard to install. I mainly wanted it to make cleaning the shower easier and rinsing off after bath. No big deal and shower will look better without the hose hanging on wall.
Rained yesterday and stopped about an hour ago. Was wonderful. Today not doing much. Cozy inside.
Penny - yes it's very important to have a living trust set up. It's costly and time consuming but worth it. Hope hubby's cataracts removal helps.
Art - your party sounds fun
Gail - welcome. I am kinda new to this board also. I live in Southern California. Married with 2 daughters. Retired 2 months ago and loving it.
Betty J - congrats on getting a puppy. So cute. Crate training is wonderful. So easy to house train. Ours was trained very quickly with only a couple of accidents inside. I read online the best way to crate train. It worked out great. She still sleeps in Her 42"x 24" crate at night. She loves it.
