People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Monday: Karen E; Tuesday: Ann; Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C: Sunday: Gail.

Good early day all. Ruth that looks like a recipe I will try, thank you. Lemon and chicken make a great combo.
Marlo you are right, many doctors love their Rx pads. Good for you for being your own advocate.
Jane, well at least you are getting some good exercise with the cleaning.
Today we need to sign up at rehab and get downtown to the club to sign up for the Christmas dinner.
I don't believe Ann has found this board yet, but she is busy with family coming to the farm for Christmas. Has Karen C been here yet?
Have a good day all.

Never went out at all yesterday as it was just too cold and windy. But we had some sun in the morning and then got very cloudy by afternoon. Bailey hates this weather but Bridgette would stay out all day if we let her! So when Fred takes them out Bailey does her business right away and runs back inside to get under the blanket on the sofa and then realizes Bridgette didn't come in with her so she goes into our bedroom and watches from the bed to see when she's coming in and then goes to the door and once Bridgette gets in the chase begins! I have to try to see if I can get Bailey in to see the vet today as all night she was digging at her ears and shaking her head so none of us got much sleep. I looked at her ears and didn't see anything but I don't have anything to see deep inside and want to get it taken care of before it gets worse.
Got the sheets washed for both beds yesterday and got dusting done in hard to reach areas. Today washing our bed sheets and towels. Will wait until tomorrow to clean the bathroom and get the rest of the laundry done. Then all we'll need to do Sunday is clean the sheet and blanket that is for the dogs on the sofa and clean the floors. It would be a waste to do them too soon as they track in mud every time they're out.
I started feeling like I'm catching a cold so started using Zicam remedy for colds yesterday to see if I can nip it in the bud. My daughter told me about it last spring. You swab the inside of the nose with it when you first start feeling a cold coming on and it's worked before so hope it works again.
Not sure if I'll be making my meeting tomorrow as they say we're getting ice which will then turn to snow and will be dangerous and I don't drive in those conditions. Fred said he would take me if they don't cancel so it'll be a wait and see as they've missed the forecast more than once this year!

I'm here! Thanks, Ruth, for sending e the information about this board. I've just been incredibly busy. We are coming and going from now through January 8th when we return from skiing with our Texans.
My weight is stable. I have not been exercising which is incredibly unusual for me. My body is screaming for some exercise. I have been stretching to prepare my legs for some cross country skiing. I can tell I've gotten stiff from the lack of exercise I'm going to try to fit in a gentle Leslie tape today.
I hope you are all well. I have not caught up with posts.
Good day to all, Ann

Good Morning! Happy Friday!
I am glad it is Friday but hate to see this week end. It was a nice quiet one. Next week will be busy. Tomorrow I will go to DGS's basketball tournament. We have a Christmas open house to go to on Sunday. Tuesday we are going to a Christmas dinner show. Thursday is lunch with girlfriends. Friday, DGDs Christmas show in Orlando. Saturday is Christmas eve...already! Where does the time go???
So glad that Ann and Marlo found us!
Marlo I cannot believe the Dr. pushing drugs and oxygen on you. You are a great self-advocate. I admire you! Let me know if you try the recipe I posted yesterday with butternut squash. It does sound good!
Heading to yoga. BBL

Well back from the vet's and she has a yeast infection in her ears but he put an ointment in them that only is applied once so I don't have to do anything with it and then gave me an antibiotic BUT in checking her over discovered she has cracked both of her back teeth from chewing on hard bones. One you can actually see the pulp and is getting infected so she is scheduled for dental surgery December 27. He will try to save the teeth and will take X-rays before starting. If he doesn't have to pull the teeth the charge will be $325 as he will clean the teeth but if he has to remove teeth it will be $500. So threw away her hard bones. He said Menards has dog bones made by Nerf which he buys for his dogs and said there is a softer Nylabone that has give to it. He even said dental stix would be okay too just no kind of bone that has no give to it. So I'm glad she had this ear problem so the tooth problem was discovered as if that infection in the gums had been left unchecked we would have had major problems. The vet who checked her is new to the practice and I loved him! Bailey not so much but she was very good during the exam which surprised him as he found a lot of blood in one ear which would have been extremely painful.
Ruth your week next week sounds like mine except it's a lot of eating out with my family!

Greetings ..... and my goodness! What happened here!?
I had a few minutes of peace and I thought I'd just stop in and say .... CHECK YOUR WILLS AND I'M NOT KIDDING ..... It's gotten so complicated here for my DSS because of the state of his DM's will .... done in 1987 with no codicils or new wills. And don't make codicils, make a new will! Her birthday was yesterday. The same day as my DS it turns out.
Anyway, today they are driving up the mountain to scatter his DM's ashes. We aren't going, of course, so we are enjoying an hour of peace and we have to finish up a few details on getting the house options selected. Routine. What routine? Order. What order!? I can't see either the flats of the kitchen counters or the table, or, or .... I didn't realize how much I'd grown to love nothing on the counters!
I'm all signed in here.
The family is with us into Tuesday. Their flight is sometime on Tues. They acknowledge the chaos that has come into our house with them and it's all good, but as I said to DH today ... I realize he's your DS and I'm happy we can do this for him -- basically turned over our house to them, but I'm going to be really happy to get it back next week!
All, be well! take care. I hope I can go back and catch up on what's happened before the shutdown .... I assume there will be a shutdown.

Freezing rain here now, hoping it is a rapidly moving system. Snow is bad enough with out ice underneath. Oh well, I can't do anything about that but I do have 49 Christmas cards done and in the mail. Tree is decorated but I might just add other things as time goes along. I just love all the colored balls so tree is filled with colored twinkling lights and lots of colored balls. Basket ball hoop and stand has been delivered and mailed check to DGD. She thinks she wants to donate it, guess that is ok but told her if she chose she could save it for her trip to Iceland. Her choice. This is the baking kind of day but instead think I will get back to the pillows to get them completed. Things are moving along.
The garage door was open enough for the cats to roam outside if they chose, but when I added feed to the bird feeders I noticed both Skitter and Boo2 were nestled inside their insulated cubes so I just closed the door. They won't like the snow tomorrow either.
Jane, hope you can find someone to help clean your house that does not take you to the cleaners. I do not do the best job cleaning my house and that is a job I would not hire out to do but I have a feeling cleaning people could be rather high priced. Several ladies in our neighborhood do house cleaning but I have never inquired about it.
Sandy, my DS has a Corgi dog and it has gone down in the hind quarters and is now on wheels. They live in Omaha but have brought him to Ames to the Iowa State University and entered him in a research program. They have spent lots of money on therapy and surgeries. He is a happy dog just has to be attended to like a baby.
Every one is so busy but it will all be over in a week or two. Hang in there. I need to get to work. To each and everyone have a great afternoon.

It's been a busy day and now wondering about dinner. I am tracking but the planning is slipping. I have such a hodge podge of food in the fridge and cupboard. Sounds like soup doesn't it? Karen E you make me miss a Christmas tree.

What a day. Both Don and I said nothing we have to do today so I was tearing our bedroom apart. I packed up about 18 of my Coach bags in cases to keep the dust off them. I moved two nightstands, a dresser, a chest of drawers, a recliner, a desk, a TV stand, two chairs and a cedar chest and cleaned under and behind them. That is only in our bedroom. I had to change my cleaning pad for my mop twice because I was getting that much dirt off my bedroom floor. I sat down to take a break and the phone rang---Jane you are supposed to be playing bridge. I completely forgot so ran Kelcy out and out the door we went. They were on the second hand when we got there. Just completely forgot that we are now playing bridge on Friday at 1:00. When I got home I saw that no good fairy came in and moved the furniture back and finished cleaning the floor. I didn't move the bed and I didn't get any dusting done but I did clean the plantation blinds in there and dusted the windows. Even without dusting that is the cleanest the bedroom has been in months.
After bridge we drove to Walmart to pick up two prescriptions for Don and the one said $441 and he got it for less than $3. That is for prostrate and I can't believe how much money it is.
I talked to my friend who told me about this cleaning lady and she couldn't believe that so is going to call hers and see what is going on with this one.
I have my roll a dex cleaned out and all organized and I have all my business cards organized. I am still working on files and I have another roll a dex basket to do. I got interested in Hallmark movies and watched until 1:00 last night so really got a lot of work done on them. They look so nice and neat. I haven't had a chance to get anything together for Goodwill so guess I will skip that this week. After line dance tomorrow I hope to do a little work out side.
Everyone stay safe and warm....come visit FL Perfect weather now.

Good evening all!
It is bitter cold here but, my DS's DMinLaw called so we went to see 'Manchester by the Sea'. It was very well done, but I cried through most of it and it didn't end how I would've liked. Casey Affleck was excellent! The previews of 'Jackie' looked good and I'm sure that one will be sad as we all lived through those traumatic days!
Tomorrow we will have snow so I cancelled my Derm. appointment in Boston to avoid a possible horrendous commute. In good old New England style, it will be 57deg. on Sunday. I'm going to go down the list and finish any shopping I have yet to do.
My DD will be keeping me very busy with the impending arrival of my first (Very)DGC! I will be taking an Infant CPR class with the parents and she and I will do 'Montessori at home for Infants-Toddlers'. I've ordered the books for natural baby food, etc. I made my own in the blender, back in the day. Fun, fun, fun and exciting! They are going to move closer to me for a few years as I will help with child care!
Sandy, good that you caught the problems with fur baby right away! Karen, AZ, wills are important and protecting assets especially important. Fortunately we foresaw that DHs health was an issue and were prepared or else the Care Center would have ended up attaching everything. Good to see Ann, busy as always! Hope that KC will make it here. Does anyone know how Vera is doing? She is missed! Karen E, you have a lot of tops spinning, caring for animals, the farm, DKs, DGKs, etc..keeps you young! Sharon, you are so sensitive to dairy! Is it lactose intolerance? A friend had to take pills before eating dairy, etc. Ruth, how nice to spend time with your DD, I'm thrilled to stay over and spend Christmas Eve/Christmas with mine. Joanne, good that you have healed well enough to be out and about. Feel better for the holidays! Hi to Gail! You must be busy with party preparation, hope it's fun!
Guess I will take a walk up and down the hall and then do my fitness tracking. It is good prep work as I do plan to start the Nutrition/Fitness Program at the Y as soon as the Therapist feels I can handle the exercise portion. It will all come together!
Have a great night all!

Jane, that was a huge undertaking in your bedroom, which must be huge! Your cleaning lady could not have been doing a very good job! Sure was time for a change!

Marlo I have a true allergy to the protein in cow's milk, not lactose intolerance. I feel much better now. It had gotten so bad I was choking. Now I have no sinus issues, no reflux, lots of energy, my brain fog has cleared and of course my long standing cough is gone. All good, but I am still learning how to live this way.
Jane doesn't it feel great to have a clean bedroom? Almost as good as a clean kitchen.
Sandy how is the girl with the ear problem?
Those of you in the wintry weather, please be safe and stay warm.
