our power went out about 5 pm yesterday. we were having lightening, thunder and wind storms last night.probably a good thing don trimmed that tree yesterday we would have had branches all over the place.
power got back on about 10 pm.
we are having lunch at home today. we went to dq for lunch. then last night we had to get something because of the outage.
hayride question. yes once. we were in az and went to our niece's ranch. I was so looking forward to horses. nope the wagon was pulled by a tractor or truck.
later they took the wagon back and picked us up in trucks.
ice ceam. once I went with some neighbor kids to their uncles. we had homemade ice cream.yes with the crank bucket.

Our hay rides were with tractors also as hardly any of our farmers have the kind of horses it would take. Unless you know an Amish farmer. I have been on a sleigh ride with horse and sleigh as had a friend that raised Morgan horses and he hunted up an old sleigh and rebuilt it and yes it was real runners. He did have a newer type with wheels that help more people and could do it with snow. But really the old fashioned snow sleigh ride was fun, bells on the horses halters and all.
I posted the recipe for the pineapple cake on its own thread as I forgot who asked for it.
it really is delicious and I like it warm without frosting. But the frosting recipe is there too.
Cat that is fine and I do understand you taking some time off. We all need it from time to time on the threads. Sometimes I just read and don't post!!!

My aunt and uncle had a hand cranked ice cream maker. We did most of our social activities with family. My cousins were my closest friends, but we didn't live that close to each other. No freeways in Los Angeles way back then. My grandmother baked wonderful cakes but no pies!

My Grandma made wonderful pies and my favorite was her buttermilk pie. Kind of like a custard pie only a tang to it. have tried many recipe and either the buttermilk is not the same as getting it from the farmer or the recipe not the same. of course she had no recipesfor anything.
My Mom baked fancy cakes and tons of the cooked frostings on top. always either walnuts, coconut or some other topping as well. My DH loved pies and when we first got married I tried a million pie crust recipes finally found one he liked and that worked well for me and still make my own pie crusts. My DGD#2 tells everyone she only eats my pie crusts. always makes me feel good, took a long time to find one that worked for me and mine.
My Mom belonged to a Garden Club and though I don't think they did much gardening they had a wonderful strawberry ice cream social out doors every summer, everyone dressed to the nines with heels and summer hats and yep even gloves. Now days I read about the Garden Clubs in the south but this was sure different for the North east!! Always had it on the Church lawn and they sold tickets ahead of time and even the little girls dressed up and little boys and guys in dress pants and white shirts. No ties though. you could get angel food cake with ice cream and strawberries, or biscuits with strawberries and ice cream. Little fancy cookies as well. Punch always.
Ice cream always makes for a good time.

I had a lazy Sunday - just washed my sheets, went to Walgreens for medication refills, picked up the pile of thistles that I had pulled out a couple of days ago (it was getting windy and I didn't want thistles all over the grass), and of course critter care. It's really hot so Waylon doesn't stay out for long. My daughter brought over some chocolate covered pretzels and some chocolate covered strawberries that her mother in law had made. They are really good.

Connie, the first day of July has been enjoyable. Being Sunday, I did not get on much. Tomorrow I have a 9:15 Dr. apt so will leave here probably before you get us going. Thought about stopping after church tonight, at Sonic for their Vanilla Dish [ice cream] but made myself keep driving.
Good night everyone.

I grew up in the Bronx (NYC) and the only ice cream I had was on the Good Humour man's cart. I always got an orange ice pop. My DH#1 is the one who ate ice creams. He was a chocolate guy. When he first was diagnosed with lung cancer I bought him everything in chocolate to get him to eat....choc cake, ice cream, cookies, etc......And, then his taste changed so I finished it all off. I weighed 220 lbs. when he passed. I joined WW and got down to goal eventually. But, now with DH#2 being so bad, I don't get to walk or even stay at my meetings so I've put a lot of it back on. Depression also strikes frequently.
Tucking you all in now in LIGHT GREEN BLANKETS COVERED WITH FLOWERS OF ALL KINDS! ....sweet dreams!

Fires continue to be a problem... smoke very thick, cannot see the neighbors house.. Waiting to see if the fire gets closer.. many people have had to evacuate in the towns just above us..
