I managed to get a couple rows done on the shawl last evening. Now that I know what I did wrong on the repeated row 8 it's working well.
Cold here today but I just went out and sweep the light layer of snow off the deck so the UPS driver wouldn't slip when delivering packages we ordered. It's nice to be able to click a button and have things brought to the house but I'm really upset with Amazon and probably won't buy anything from them in the future. Not that these companies suffer when one customer stops using them but if I am upset I'm sure others are too with their new policies and ways of doing business. I do have to say that I've had very good luck when buying things that were thru them and from China.I had to contact a couple sellers (which Amazon has a button for) and each time the problem was taken care of immediately. Can't say the same for US companies. As an example of US company service... I had a package delivered to me that I did not order. I searched the internet for the company and finally found an old facebook page that company had. I contacted them thru email to tell them that I received something I didn't order from them and would they like me to return it. They pretty much said that I did order it. I wasn't charged for it. Then they set their email so that I couldn't reply to it which was weird, so I kept what they sent but it's not something I can even use. It's nice soI will probably give it to someone when I find someone that will be able to use it.I thought maybe someone sent it to me as a gift but couldn't think of anyone that would be sending me a gift. I did ask everyone that I thought could by some remote possibility send something to me and they all said no.
I had a month free trial of Amazon prime and ordered things that month. It was right before Christmas so that worked out well.my month ended and I won't be buying from there. It's nice to have that site to compare prices and shipping options. I've found a lot of companies that will ship free and are cheaper than buying from Amazone.I had just got into the habit of buying from there instead of comparison shopping. Won't do that anymore. I did find out that for me their Prime would be a complete waste on money.Even in the free month I didn't watch their moves, read they magazine or take advantage of any of their offerings except the expedited shipping and I didn't really care if my packages got here in two days or not so didn't really care about that either.
Ok I'll ;quit blabbing and get to work on this shawl. After I make ddil's infinity scarf and the couple other little things I'll start making some fingerless gloves. I want to give all the grandchildren and grands in law a pair for Christmas next year anyway so might as well do that. Then on to my list. Kids are always texting so need free fingers.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I woke up this morning motivated to work on my quilting and finished Block 7 of the Solstice Quilt. Then I put together all the practice quilt tops and backing so I can make quilt sandwiches out of them to practice my machine quilting. I ended up with 6 tops to practice on. A few of of them are table runner size and the rest are smaller. I want to use different batting in each of them so I can get a feel for what I like. I have several types of batting and might pick up some more tomorrow, when I go to my quilt class for the Lone Star quilt. The class is the one that was scheduled in December, but we had an icy day and they postponed the class until now. I'm looking forward to working on this quilt. Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

CJ, good to see you. I remember that you had that class cancelled. I'm glad to hear it's been rescheduled. Good work in getting both the block and the sandwiches made. I have a lot to learn about batting etc.
I still haven't got to crocheting yet today. I did my Bible reading then dh woke up and we visited and then put together the sauerkraut with potatoes and sausage we'll have later. So now he's watching the news and I'm catching up on here and in about 3 seconds I'm going to work on the crocheting and probably should even say it but I do intend to get a whole lot of it done this evening
Have a great evening...it's Friday, Ginny!

Good morning!
I am so sorry I did not get here yesterday.....the day just ran away from me. Got to work- and it was my turn for a driver evaluation, so that got me out late. Ran to the food store, and came home. Then the fun began. I thought I was making dinner- and discovered that my oven had died. So got dinner made anyway- and then Dh came home early from the nursing home. This all resulted in no down time for me at all. Our youngest came home from school (she was planning on doing this anyway as she has a doctors appointment)- so I was busy catching up with her. Long story short, I finished ovening dinner in the toaster oven, the repair man is coming Monday to repair the big oven and all is well. MIl is doing surprisingly well and as much as she looked like she was on deaths door 2 days ago, rallied tremendously yesterday. She ate and actually got dressed. Now, I know there is at least one nurse out there reading this (Hi Ruth!) and am well aware that many rally before they pass. My DBIL is coming up today from Florida, and I do know MIL wants to see him before she goes. It's all in the Lords hands.....oh, I do get it. And Ruth, I can recite Proverbs 3:5-6 inside out, upside down, in my sleep......you get the picture. It is indeed my favorite Bible verse.
I have gotten minimal crochetting time in, but the afghan is getting there. Hoping that this weekend I can get some more done. I measured again and there is a decent shot at me finishing it. I have to crochet an hour a day....with all that is going on, it could be a challenge.
Meg- someday we will all figure out what is with this site and why it drops posts. Did you get to KnitWits?
CJ- a lot of quilters like the pre needled all cotton batting- I am thinking soft and natural might be its name. I will check when I get downstairs what it's name is. I like working with it- Joanns sells it by the yard or you can buy it precut to the size of a bed. I usually buy the un bleached, which I would use unless you are making a white quilt. The other thing is Amazon also sells it- or Joanns online. Check for sales. It does go on sale a lot. Happy quilting.
Phyl- what project are you working on now?
Ruth, yes that would annoy me- especially if the yarn you used for the fingerless gloves was not cheap. Gee, I thought you could only knit gloves! Guess you use a small hook. An I would be totally lost with a pattern like that as I am sure each row is different.
Okie dokie, gotta go get busy cleaning......have a great day Ginny

Hello everyone, It's Saturday and I am getting a slow start. I have a couple of errands I have to get something to take to coffee hour after church tomorrow. I need to get some new head phones to use with my Nook. So I better get myself dressed and out of here. I did work on my b/blanket a lot yesterday. First at Knit Wits and then again in the evening.
It rained a lot yesterday which meant a lot of the homeless people were waiting for the library to open at one. We meet in the multipurpose room . The library provides tea and coffee and we bring snacks. As soon as we got there yesterday there was a homeless woman right up at the snack table filling up a plate with cake and cookies and she got herself a cup of coffee. We have had other homeless people stop by sometimes and we offer them something to eat but this woman was pushy she just walked in like she belonged there. Later she was out in the lobby and she had a wire cart and she had unpacked everything and had it all over the floor near the entrance. When we were leaving I was talking to a friend outside and she came up behind me and told me to move. She was a very odd woman.
Enough of my rambling. I will check back later. Have a good Saturday.

Yes Ginny, sometimes people do rally and it seems as if sometimes it's because they want to see everyone or a certain person before they go. Other times people rally and stay around for some time. My aunt was fully alert and was waiting for one grandaughter to get there(from CJ's area to Pa). Everyone thought she was going any second but she would rally and talk. Her dgd got there. She talked to her. Talked on the phone to her son who was in Italy at the time and an hour later she was gone. and she looked so happy to have all of us there with her while she spent her final hours here and took her last breaths. But I've seen lots of people die and it's all different.
Ginny, actually fingerless gloves are easy. You'd be surprised at how easy they are..It's mostly just crocheting in a circle, doing a few post stitches for the ribbing and leaving a space for the thumb. You can add stitches for a longer thumb and some have short fingers but the ones I'm going to make just have an opening for the fingers no individual short fingers. You can increase to make the part of hte hand area wider if you like but most yarn is stretchy enough that that isn't needed and actually might make them too wide.. It sure does sound like your life is very busy. How many children do you have? Are they all away at college? I'm way older than you so several of my grands are the ones that are college age. However my son is always taking more post degree college classes and my dd just finished her degree requirements. She's almost 43 yrs old. It's taken her at least 12 years because she's been raising six children and other things have also gotten in the way. She also was always on the Dean's list and maintained almost a 4.0 average...can you tell I'm a proud mom? My son too.
Sorry about your oven Ginny. They don't make appliances the way they used to. I had my old ones since early 1990 and finally decided to "upgrade". Well the new fridge lasted 15 months.I used to have a toaster oven. I hear everyone talking about how great theirs are. Mine was a cheapie and I guess that's why it was pretty useless and it was also dangerous. It would get so hot that one time almost caused a fire. I should get a good one.it would be great to make little things or bake in the summer without heating the house up.

Meg, you must have pushed the send button while I was typing. We have lots of homeless people that hand out at our library too. There seems to be less now since they hired a security guard so maybe they have a new policy. I still have seen some napping in the chairs but not as many as before. They used to line up at the door and they had all kinds of snacks with them. It used to be that in libraries food wasn't allowed except in meeting rooms when the meetings were going on. I think here they would have made that woman pack her things back up and leave. You wouldn't think that here in this cold climate there would be many homeless people in the winter but there are. I guess they must all fit in the mission at night or they'd freeze to death. Just the night before last it was 11 below zero which was not expected or forecast. That didn't include wind chill.
I need to get moving too. I'm going to bake a couple things and trim the meat and put it to marinate for dinner.
Ginny, don't stress about the baby blanket. YOu could make it a little shorter than the pattern calls for unless the particular pattern wouldn't look right with it being shorter. Some with repeats don't look right if you don't end with the whole thing. I think a lot of people make baby blankets 36x36. Seems like a good size. And smaller ones are really great when the baby is in the car seat either in the car or in stores shopping in the seat or in a bassinet or those new small beds they have.

I should have taken the information with me so we could figure out how much background I need. the fabric at one shop with bare trees In it is gone. guess I will look online.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are enjoying your weekend.
Ginny - Glad you have a toaster oven to work with until your oven gets fixed. I'm glad your MIL is still around to see family. I've heard of many people rallying like that and then passing away soon after.
My mother was sick for 2 weeks, and then on the weekend felt well enough to go out for a ride. We went by the cemetery where her step father had just been buried a few weeks before. (My poor grandmother lost her husband and oldest daughter within a few weeks of each other!!) While we were there she picked an area in the cemetery where she would like to be buried. Two days later she went into a coma and 10 days after that she died. No one thought she was that sick, and it was a shock to all of us. But I've always thought how strange it was that she picked out the area in the cemetery. My father ended buying plots where she wanted and that's where both of them are buried.
Meg - It's nice that your library does that for the homeless. I hope you enjoyed your KnitWits group yesterday.
Ruth - Hope you got your baking done today. You should be proud of your daughter, that's a great achievement - good for her.
Phyl - Hope you find the fabric for your quilt online.
I had the Lone Star quilt class today and it went pretty well. There were 6 people in the class and everyone was at a different point in the process throughout the class so it did get a little confusing sometimes. My sister-in-law and I wish the shop/instructor would tell people to have their fabric picked out and cut before coming to class, but I guess they make some extra money selling fabric on class day. Since I'd been to several classes, I already had my fabric ready to go. But the first hour of the class was mostly other people picking their fabrics and cutting them. It was still fun though.
Take care everyone!

Thank you CJ.
When I did go to the quilting class I'm pretty sure we were told not to pick out and bring our own fabric. Then like yours, the first hour was spent with the instructor and owner of the shop helping people pick out fabric and cut. It wasn't just one class though. I forget how many classes there were. We might have gone for six weeks.
Phyl, sorry the fabric you liked was out of stock. I hope you find some you like online. I've never bought fabric online but Since we only have Hobby Lobby now to buy from I might be asking you ladies what is a good fabric to buy. Walmart now has fabric but I'm pretty sure it's the kind my friend that quilts told me not to buy. Unfortunately that friend lives 1800 miles away so can't help much and she doesn't use a computer so I can't even ask her questions unless I want to wait for a long time for an answer. She has a large extended family and they have many traditions they follow so she is super busy around holidays, weddings, birthdays, etc. I can tell it's wearing her out.
I'm tired because of all the cooking and baking I've done and still have dishes to do. I'm kinda energized though because of the coffee I drank while cooking

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I worked on my Lone Star quilt today, I wanted to do it while the class was still fresh in my mind. I got one of the eight diamonds done. I figure it took about 1-2 hours, so I have seven more to get done. I'll try to work on them over the next few weeks, so I don't end up putting this project aside. Today is Slow Stitch Sunday but I haven't done any stitching. I might do a little embroidery later while I'm watching TV. Ruth - I've bought fabric online a few times and have always been pleased with it. There are some great websites with low prices on good fabric. Take care everyone.

Hello all. We had a little plumbing emergency this morning so had to work on that for awhile then I did some sorting of picture frames and greeting cards to donate. I don't know how I ended up with so many cards but I have a big stack ready to go. For the pics I want to pick out the most special ones and put them in one of those frames that you can use for multiple pictures. That will be better than having all these frames sitting around taking up space and collecting dust.
I haven't gotten any crafting done today but will start when I get done here. I'm watching the Super Bowl but am not very interested in it so I don't have to watch carefully or anything. I do hope NE loses. I'm not a fan of the other team I just don't like NE. Kind of like the election...wasn't a Trump fan but didn't like Hillary.

I went to church this morning and then helped host the coffee hour. which is fun because I get to talk to lots of people. Now I am jome and have the house to myself. DGD and Devinhave been away all weekend abd DS worked this morning and he must have found somewhere to go and watch the ball game. I am not into football so here I am.
I have spent a lot of lime this past week browsing on the net looking for patterns and looked at some UTube videos as I want to learn some new crochet stitches. I have spent some time working on my b/blanket. I am having a problem with my Nook when I have the head phones on it doesn't pick up the sound from the Nook. I can listen to the ook without the head phones but I like listening to the audio book with the head phones so that I don't disturb anyone else. I will go to Barnes and Noble and perhaps they can help. I thought the problems was with the head phones but iy is something else. I am sleepy and I have been dragging myself around so I will go to the Dr next week. I think I may need to have my blood level checked and I my need a blood transfusion.
I think I must be the only person not watching the ball game. It looks like it is going to rain the wind is picking up so we may have another storm. I hope your team wins.
Bye for now.

Wow, have I missed a lot here today!
Just got back from visiting MIL- she is resting comfortably- but unaware of anything. That she is out of blame is a blessing.
Will catch up with you all tomorrow. Ginny
