People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

I did go to WW yesterday but did not WI and again the attendance was really down. It might be that people are in vacation so will see how it is next week as school will be starting this week for most schools but Maija doesn't start until the 24th. But swim team practice started last week.
Maija had quite the busy day yesterday! 8-10 was swim team practice, then Sam picked her up and they went to watch a parade in his town and got back here about 5:45 and then she left at 6 to babysit and got home from that around midnight! This was for a cousin who also lives in a town nearby. Then tonight she has asked Debbie for a later curfew as there will be a meteor shower that can be watched around 11 and Sam found the perfect place for them to watch it but it's 45 minutes away so Debbie said she could have a 1:45 curfew instead of midnight. This guy is just what Maija really needs right now for her to see just how a gentleman treats a lady. He always gets out of the car to open the door for her, keeps plenty of water in the car to be sure she stays hydrated, gets her home by her curfew, asks her if she had time to eat before he got her and if not gets her food right away, is very respectful of her being vegetarian, texts Debbie to let her know their plans and has now started walking Maija to the door! Debbie is in a state of shock but to me that's how it used to be and I'm so glad he is that way.

Good morning friends. Another lovely day in the midwest.
Gail the iPad measures 9 1/2” x 6 1/2”. I don’t know what other sizes there are but the mini.
Sandy Sam seems to be a peach.
Last evening another couple texted they would pick us up in the golf cart and we could watch the music show at their camper. They had a fire going and we roasted marshmallows. This couple is our kids age and Don had coached Julie in softball when they won the state championship. What another lovely thing that happened yesterday.
I hope each of you have another serendipity day.
Sharon

Good morning!
The sun is shining and the temps are mild. It looks like it will be a fantastic day.
Sharon, I'm glad you're enjoying the weather here in the Midwest. What a lovely evening you had last night! I can't remember the last time I roasted marshmallows over an open fire. Yummmmmm
Sandy, Sam sounds like a wonderful young man. Someone raised him right!
I stayed up and tried to see some of the meteor shower last night but I didn't see anything. We live just within city limits so I wasn't surprised. If I was able to awake longer past midnight I might have seen a few but I was tired and gave up quickly. I might try again tonight.
Nothing exciting going on today. I have a busy next week so I'll come home from church and enjoy the peace and quiet.

Good morning
It's going to be a relaxing day today. I don't do much on Sundays, it's a day of rest for me. I got my closet cleaned out, purged some stuff and re-organized my shelf with the help of my 10 yr.old gr.niece.
Temps are in the low 60's and possible rain showers each day this week.
Sandy....I agree Sam seems to be a wonderful young man.
Sharon.....glad you're enjoying you vacation.
Vicki.....I was sound asleep by 11:30 last night so didn't get to see anything.

Good morning. Woke early and took care of the dogs. Made an open face sandwich with half a sandwich round, fried egg, feta cheese and a slice of fresh tomato. It was wonderful and only 17 cals and 21 carbs. Trying to keep carbs around 20 per meal that and no fast food in between seems to be the secret to my success. I will endure and beat my bad habits.
Sandy Sam sound wonderful.
Sharon I have friends who are the same age as my children, I feel so fortunate that they want anything to do with me, and I enjoy them so much.
Vicki dogs woke me at 2:30 so I went out to see the meteor shower only to find out that coulds were moving in and there was a lot of lightening beneath them. That is what woke the dogs, one who is deathly afraid of storms. I don't think we got a drop of rain, just clouds and lightening.
We are having a few days a of lower humidity and slightly lower temps, which is such a relief. Maybe a walk this evening.
Joanne I believe that Sunday is made for relaxing. It is a day of rest and I don't do any house work. I may cook or bake, or sew a little, but that is not work for me. Nothing better than a movie on the TV while I sew and watch it. Late mass today and relax and sew is my plan for the day. Maybe a short trip to Publix on the way home from mass. I need some fruit and they have a sale on crab cakes. That and some fresh farm veggies sound like a great dinner for me.
Hope everyone else is doing well this fine day. Just printed out a recipe for a lemon pudding cake. I will make it in two smaller pans and give half away and share my portion with a friend.

Today we are going to a BBQ pool party to celebrate a friend's retirement and to see the hosts new home. Mike sold them their home in June but we have not been there since they have been moved in and settled.
Sandy, Kids here started back to school Friday. My grandkids live in another county. They start tomorrow. It is too hot to go to school now but too hot to do anything else but swim. The nice thing is that they finish in May. Sam is definitely a keeper and a real gentleman!
Gail, A couple of months ago I bought the iPad new (5th Gen) 9.4 inches tall, 6.6 inches wide, and 0.29 of an inch deep and weighs 1.03 pounds. They are much faster and thinner and cheaper than the others. It was less than $300. I love it!
Joanne, When we were in VT it was supposed to rain the whole 2 weeks we were there. We were lucky enough to schedule our outings around the rain and saw very little. On the upside, the rivers and streams and waterfalls were fabulous with all that water. We had heard it was really dry before we went and barely any water in the rivers and streams.

Good morning
Gloomy here so no pool but I did my exercises and have laundry going. Big TV went out with yesterday's power. I have an appointment at apple later and I will try to get caught up on things that need to be done here.
Sandy---Sam is certainly a good guy.

Good afternoon!
Re the Perseid meteor shower, this is supposed to be a great year for them, new moon and all. Alas, we are getting rain, rain, rain. Before the rains came (two nights ago?) I happened to be up in the middle of the night and thought it would be a good time to see them. But then I thought it will be even better in a couple of nights so I went back to sleep. Darn~ I will try again if it clears.
Yes Sam sounds so wonderful, Sandy. I think Maija deserves him too. She is a lovely young woman.
Sharon and Ruth, thanks for the info about the iPad. I think I will get one. My laptop (Mac) is very good but I miss the touchscreen.
Like you, Sharon and Geri, I appreciate my younger friends. A lot of the people I work with at WW are my DD's age and younger and they are a delight to work and be with. I have spent social time with a few of them.

I picked up a book at the library that has me hooked, though I haven't gotten very far. GIVE ME YOUR HAND by Megan Abbot. The protagonist, now a post-doc biologist, had a friend in HS who asked her one day if she thought people could be amoral. The girl asked if someone had done something to her that made her ask that. She replied no, that it was something she had done. When she revealed her secret it apparently changed things.
So I started thinking about secrets. We did this once before (Sharon, I think), but let's do it again.
QOTD: Is there a secret that you or someone else had that you can share with us? Did anything happen with this secret?
AOTD: This is long. Sorry! The year after I graduated from college, I was dating my ex and living outside of Boston. He (as was often the case) was causing me great grief because of his inability to remain committed in a committed relationship. I broke up with him with the help of an ex-boyfriend and my parents and moved further outside of Boston closer to my work without telling him. Life proceeded well for a while. But one day I was in Boston. It was spring and everything was in bloom. I was walking through the Common and Boston Gardens and everything reminded me of being with him. I called him and we met. I had been flying home most weekends but stopped as we secretly started seeing each other again every weekend. That secret remained secret for a while.
Well, our home in Brooklyn was always chaotic. Three daughters with friends in and out, my dad with his medical practice downstairs ... lots going on. My mother's greeting and often ours as well when answering the phone was "Kaplow (maiden name) Chateau, home of confusion." One Saturday I was staying at ex's and the phone rang. I picked it up and said "Kaplow...etc." Why did I answer that in my ex's apartment?? I have no idea, but it was my mother! Her response was, "I thought so." I revealed that we had decided to get married and his closest friend from BU's parents were hosting us. Of course neither my parents or his wanted to miss this so we did end up having a small reception. I often think about that and chuckle.
Getting stir-crazy again and might go to a movie. The recliners are sooo comfortable in the theaters. I ordered a small wheelchair with a leg rest so I can sit on something and keep my leg raised.
I'll check in again later. Have a lovely day, whatever you do.
Gail

Goodness I can’t imagine I brought up a Q about secrets as I cannot keep one. I blab everything. If at one time I mentioned one here I evidently felt relieved of it and have forgotten.
I am sitting at DD’s by myself. She has already left to shop with pregnant DD and the other DD is with friends. Don has left with DSIL so it’s just me and the dog Mia and she seems very happy with my company. Perhaps it’s because I’m eating something. 😋

Home from my visit to Apple. I thought this computer needed a new battery and I am right. I have had it 6 years this month so guess that is the battery life. I also got a new backup drive because I thought my old one wasn't working. And again I was right. I guess I know more than I thought I did! LOL. So just backed up everything because I don't want to take a chance on losing thousands of songs and thousands of pictures. The battery had to be ordered so for now I need to keep this computer plugged in because taking it off the electricity the life seems to be less than 2 hours.
Don got the big TV working again. There is a "secret" to doing that. You could come in and see the TV and say what a great picture. Lights blink==TV goes out---unplug it for at least a couple of hours, plug it in, wait for the green light to quit flickering and then you can use 2 remotes to get it working again. Jeff says---MOM get a new TV. Hey we will some day. I just have to have the time and money---putting a couple of hundred into my computer does not help with that either. I think a new TV will be our Christmas gift. But with football season I know Don would hate for it to not be working so maybe we will be able to shop soon.
