Wake up, lazy heads! I hope everyone is out enjoying the weekend. After my 2-mile walk this morning, I tackled cleaning the gas grill. I soaked the grates in ammonia all day yesterday in hopes that the grates would be magically clean this morning. Uh, no, no they weren't. I don't understand. The internet says this is an easy way to get the grease and gunk to melt off of the BBQ grates. It didn't look like it had done anything. I scrubbed forever and got them somewhat clean. Maybe my ammonia was old and lost it's ommph? I don't know but even in the shade it was 88 degrees and I was a hot mess afterwards. I'm inside cooling off now. I was planning on grilling tonight but I may just admire my clean grill and not use it! LOL!
Hope everyone is relaxing today!

Good morning. It is dead around here, linda72. doordie50, it is a great day for those who don't know whether they are coming or going—today it just doesn't matter! We are looking at another hot weekend here with poor air quality and Spare the Air alert. Ugh. It has been so nice and Spring-like lately. linda72, I'd be tempted to try an actual degreasing product on the grill next time. With a gas grill, you just turn it up to high for 5 or 10 minutes after cooking and it kind of takes care of itself, but I vaguely remember trying to clean the grill on a Weber charcoal BBQ some years ago and it was not fun. I'll be off making French desserts at Sur La Table later this morning, and then will meet a friend at Sizzler for lunch. Probably will not end up being a low-cal day! KOKO

Good morning everyone! Thanks for kicking us off linda72 got sidetracked here as usual. I had never heard that using just ammonia trick. I had always heard throw some oven cleaner on them, toss in bag then in the sun to heat them up. doordie50 that is so cool!!! Told my nerdy son who is also equally impressed. I love numbers. 🤣🤓 Have a great day everyone! ☕️🤗 * and of course zazzles snuck in because I take forever to type. Have fun today Mike!

I had never heard that using just ammonia trick. I had always heard throw some oven cleaner on them, toss in bag then in the sun to heat them up. I found the Ammonia trick on the Internet for cleaning ovens. I tried it with my self-cleaning oven when it was horribly filthy, because I knew that if I ran the self-cleaning cycle in that condition I'd get smoked out of the house. And the Ammonia worked to loosen much of the gunk so that I could wipe it out; and after thoroughly rinsing the oven I ran the self-cleaning cycle to finish the job. The instructions I found (and there are a number of them; hard to choose one) called for placing the Ammonia in a bowl on an upper rack with a bowl of boiling water on a track underneath, closing the oven, and leaving it for at least 8 hours (overnight works). Then, if I recall, the Ammonia is poured into that bowl of water and the water is used to clean the oven before rinsing with clean warm water. I used the Ammonia trick for my microwave because the interior is stainless and one can't use regular oven cleaners on it. It helped there a lot, too.

I'm in and it's only 98 degrees at 1:45.Must be one of those cold fronts they keep talking about. Now if it doesn't top out at 103-105 again today we will be doing great.
Today is also National Clear the Shelters day.If you have been thinking about adopting a dog or cat today is a good day to do it.Fees are either reduced or waived.
I also heard that today 8/18/18 is the most popular day to get married since it's the same numbers front or back.
Happy 8/18/18.

LOL zazzles, & lmenglish, dina, that's really good news! linda72, what a shame! The ammonia trick always worked for us but, we did add some baking soda too. I think DebDoesWW, had it right - it needs to be out in the sun to heat up Happy 81818

it needs to be out in the sun to heat up Pam, I had it tied securely in a black trash bag all day yesterday and this morning. It was plenty hot in that bag yesterday when it hit 97 degrees. Not sure if the ammonia had lost its potency but it didn't seem to do anything. I might try baking soda with it; hope it doesn't blow up! I like the idea of oven cleaner but I was trying to be more "green" with my choice. As lmenglish, said, another Pinterest fail! LOL!!
