Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today I also find it sad that we can't go out and enjoy things in life by ourselves. I'd love to go out and take a long walk somewhere and enjoy nature, but I'd be scared the whole time. I'm leery when I go shopping alone. I'm grateful that when I grew up we were still able to play outside for hours and be safe. The weather here has been cooler - in the 80s. We had a lot of rain yesterday and one shower today but then I think it's supposed to clear up. I haven't been doing any crafting, but I'm looking at making this pillow from one of my father's flannel shirts: www.sparklesofsunshine.com/how-to-make-a-flannel-shirt-pillow-in-5-easy-steps/I figure I could get this done quicker than cutting up all the shirts to make a quilt. But I do still want to use some of the cotton shirts to make a quilt. Take care everyone!

CJ, that looks so easy and what a great momento it will make! Great idea by the person that thought of it to use the buttons and button holes already on the shirt to take the "cover" off and on as needed.

evening crafters, today I got the family, playpen, cleaned. mary jo is coming over in the am to help me with cutting triangles.nothing like a friend to get you to clean.
I had stuff stewn all over the place.cutting table was covered, machine top cabinet, and my extra table in the other room.
so far today I have taken 3 tylenol.not so much back pain just tried and achey. need to go for my lab work for platelets in the am. don't know if the tylenol could alter the lab test or not. I could wait till friday.
think I will be in bed before 11.
today was nice.had the windows open again.we get back to the 80's tomorrow.
yes that was sad about molly. years ago there were 3 boys in mn going to a store, one got caught.that took years to find out about him. finally a prisoner admitted to the crime before he died. that boy was jacob wetterling. can't remember where the body was buried.

Good morning!
So very sad about Molly...thankfully for us Dd saw the sanity of staying indoors and doing an excercise DVD instead of running at night. Walking in broad daylight here is reasonably safe...but at night, well its a different story. Its pretty safe, but you still do not know what wackos are out there.
CJ- the shirt pillow is adorable! A coworker did something similar with her Dad’s shirts...it involved a little bit more cutting- but she made pillows for all the nieces/nephews/grandkids. Such a nice idea and a sweet way to remember your dad. Perhaps you could use up the rest by making a small lap quilt to go with it. Using rag quilt construction it would go very easily.
Phyl- congrats on getting that play pen cleaned up! Yes, chores go much more quickly when we get help from others. Hope you are feeling well and that your platelet count is good.
Ruth, enjoy the fall weather!!! That sure makes for a good day to get out in.....get those errands done when you do not mind being out and about. Did you crochet a pencil case for DGD?
Got a nice walk in this am with a friend.....and right now its lovely out. I just checked my weather and it looks like we too are in for warmer temps in a few days. Guess I will head back up to the attic and see what I can accomplish there.....before the hot weather sets in. I did get a wee bit of crochetting time in yesterday.
Have a wonderful day G

Ginny, I'm glad to hear your dd is using an indoors dvd for walking rather than walking outdoors alone. Here its pretty safe but no matter where you are there can always be those disturbed individuals who are out to harm others. Yes I did get the pencil case done. It was easy, all single crochet rectangle then fold up the bottom and fold down the top a little bit, crochet together the sides and you're basically done. It also has a scaloped edging on the flap (which is just made by folding that top down) and has a loop for a button. I had some crayon shapped buttons that I used.
Did work on the Christmas tree skirt last evening and am now up to 117 brick stitches each having five stitches in them. Luckily I don't have to count all those stitches as I crochet along.
Phyl, I hope the platelet count is still good.
Just got home from errands and shopping so will bbl

Hello everyone, The weather has cooled down quite a bit it is in the 80s this week. It is still pretty hot in the afternoon. I have done some crocheting but I need to find a good audio book to really get me going. I just don't get much done anymore.
cj, the shirt pillow looks very nice. Are you going to make one? I don't sew anymore. I am really slowing down. Taking a nice long walk in the country side would be very nice. I want to start walking more when it cools off some more. I wont be going very far with my walker.
Phyl, sorry you are in pain and I hope the Tylenol helps. My Dr. gave me some codeine with Tylenol 3 but I find that the Tylenol alone works better. I am glad you are able to keep busy. Yes it was very sad about Molly. Parts of Iowa you can go for miles and not see anyone.
Ginny, I am glad you have a friend that you can go walking with. Good way to be safe. Or maybe having a big dog to keep you company. How is the crafting coming along? Now as it cools off I will start getting busy again. The continuous heat this summer has been hard for me to deal with.
Ruth, Glad to hear that the Christmas tree skirt is coming along. Will it take you long to complete it?
I haven't done much today so I had better get busy before DGD and Devin get home.
Have a good evening.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I bought the pillow form for the shirt today, so I am going to try it out. I hope it works out because I have several of my father's flannel shirts and I'd like to make a few of these for family. I haven't walked outside for almost 3 years now. I do all my walking in my house and I lost my weight and made it to goal by doing that, and cutting calories. I walk about 60 minutes or more every day and it's something I know I have to do to keep the weight off, so I'm glad my health is good enough for me to do the walking. I went to JoAnn Fabrics today and the store was a mess, it looked like they were restocking. When I went to check out there was no one at the register and nobody came for about 5 minutes. I was thinking how easy it would have been for someone to shoplift. I couldn't find any rust colored fabric for my Solstice quilt, I'm going to have to go to a quilt store and look. Take care everyone!

I typed out a fairly long message awhile ago and each time it flew off into cyperspace so I gave up for awhile. We'll see what happens this time
Meg, I'm glad it's cooler there because it's got to be much more pleasant than those extremely hot days you were having. I do hope you can find some good audio books to listen to while knitting and crocheting. It's great to be able to do more than one thing at a time. I don't know how long it's going to take me to finish this tree skirt since each row now is so long. I did do over two rows last night until I ran out of yarn and didn't feel like starting a new skein right then. I haven't worked on it today yet but will try to get in a couple hours on it tonight. I need to have it and the birthday presents I'm making done by about Nov10th so I can mail them so that the skirt gets there by Thanksgiving so that they can put up their tree that weekend if they want to.I have three things I want to make for one of the dgds., a couple things for ds, and I need to finish up the sea animals for dgs. The sea animals need the finishing touches such as faces or just eyes and I may make a couple more if I have time.DS's homemade gifts will be an ice scaper that has a crochet glove type thing around it to keep the hand warm while chipping ice off the windshield and a barbeque mitt for when he grills next summer. For dgd, a Bible cover, a new purse, and a "ragdoll" giraffe.
CJ, I didn't know you walked so much every day. I really applaud you for doing that. Exercise is so important. I do hope the pillow is as easy to make as it looks on that site and I'm sure you'll do a fantastic job. The Joann's that we used to have here always looked pretty messy and cluttered and the people that cut fabric were obviously told not to give even a speck of extra when they cut so some of them cut crooked and you ended up with not enough fabric because it was too short on one side. It closed and they never opened another
Well I'm going to go and get busy with my crocheting.
See you all tomorrow

Good morning!
Meg- rotten weather, whether too hot,too cold or too wet makes us feel like prisoners in our homes!! Not sure what your personal daily routine is like, but perhaps you could get out and enjoy the cooler weather a bit in the morning. Its really good news to learn that you are getting some cooler temperatures...may that trend continue so that you feel more like getting outside a bit!! Hope too that you are able to find a new author, and some books to listen to.
Ruth, this tree skirt sounds like it will be magnificant. I guess you count bricks at the end of each row, knowing that each brick is a set number ot stitches? Hey, what color was the pencil case? Bet its adorable and will be loved.
CJ-It seems as though most Joanns are now very understaffed. Kind of sad to think that the store was so disheveled. They did just have a huge coupon sale, perhaps the place was overwhelmed with shoppers and they have had a chance to recover. Cannot wait to hear how the pillows come out! They will be adorable....and a much loved memory keepsake.
Got my walk in. Going through all kinds of stuff that came out of the attic- which I had to empty. That should keep me busy all weekend...
Did sneak in bit of crochet time....and some in later on today Blessings Ginny

Ginny, it's great that you're getting in all these walks. I keep saying that I'm going to walk but I haven't even started yet. I want to do it indoors but since the bedrooms are on the lower level I don't want to walk over dh's head when he's sleeping. It sounds like you're making progress on your attic and it's probably interesting to see what's all up there tucked away in boxes or whatever.I would like to get started on the garage but then I think of the crocheting that needs to be done and don't start. Dh hates to throw anything away so I don't really know what kind of progress we'll be able to make. It's great that you're able to get in a few minutes of crocheting here and there. When do you have to have it done...is it December?
Phyl, I'm glad to hear MaryJo taught you a new way of cutting triangles. It sounds as though you're saying it's an easier way and that's always good.
I hope all of you are enjoying your day. Now I'm going to work on that tree skirt for awhile. I really didn't get a lot done last night because I was just too tired to stay up longer. It'll still be done in plenty of time I'm sure.
CJ, I wish you had people to walk with so that you could fulfill that desire to walk and enjoy nature.

Oh Ginny, in answer to your questions that I forgot to answer in my earlier post, I made the pencil case in a red, white, and blue variegated cotton. I should have done the scalloped edging in plain color though because it got lost in the variegation. As to the skirt pattern, it's one of the good ones that have the number of stitches you should end with at the end of each row. so the brick stitch rows has the number of bricks you should have and the imcrease rows have the number of sc's and dc's in the row. That is really helpful to me and I love when pattern designers do that.

Good morning!
Phyl- i can imagine that learning a new way to cut triangles makes this much easier for you- and it really will be wonderful if this new method eliminates any issues you have had in piecing. Its just so darned annoying when all the work you put in cutting does not quite work out even when you think you have done it all perfectly. I wonder if watching a you tube or two will freshen your memory on the EPP process. But of course getting help from an instructor or a friend is more fun. Hope that your visit to the chiropractor did the trick and you are much more comfortable today.
Ruth, its great when the patterns do provide that extra detail so that you can, with confidence get stitch counts for each row or each row that has a change in count. As you paid for the kit for the tree skirt then you did get your money’s worth- which is refreshing to hear. I understand how it goes with throwing things out. My Dh is actually asking me to keep a bit more than I want to- so that is a little frustrating. Its challenging when you know its best to get rid of items that are no longer functional for you or you just will not use. So do you have a list of items to make for Christmas for your family this year? Its so neat that you find beautiful and practical gifts to make for your loved ones....I am curious to hear what you will be busy making this year!
Meg, CJ and Karen- how was your Friday? Do any of you have special plans for the weekend?
Yesterday I got my dryer to cooperate, which had been acting a bit strangely. Now I have to sort and fold all the clothes- I only got through part of it yesterday. I am thinking much of it will be donated at my church’s drop box. (Which I am very thankful for....makes my life much easier). We attended another county fair yesterday- by far the largest of the fairs we have been to. Our friends joined us, they had never been to this particular fair before and loved it. There was a concert that evening which we went to- my gf liked the artist so we sat through a few songs. It was way too loud, and while this man’s music was sort of catchy most of the songs were about drinking....which gets a wee bit boring if you asked me! But all in all it was a really nice day- got lots of walking in also. Got a few rows done on the baby afghan.....I figure I am about 1/3 of the way done with it. The baby is due in December, but I have lots of other things I want to make and really want this project done.
Think today I am helping Dd #2 shop for clothes for work- she starts teaching just after Labor Day. Then back home to get back to work on that attic stuff- I hope to get the clothes sorted today so that I can drop them off at church tomorrow.
Happy Saturday all Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - That county fair sounds fun, I used to love to go to those. I'm glad the dryer is cooperating too. Enjoy your shopping today. Ruth - Hope the tree skirt is coming along. Phyl - Hope your appointment went well. I've always wanted to do some paper piecing, but every time I try it I mess it up. There's something about it that my mind can't grasp, even though I know it's not that difficult. I hope you get to practice yours again. Meg - I hope the air and heat are better for you and you are enjoying some books and crafting. The weather here the last few days has been wonderful. In the 80s, low humidity and pretty skies. We're supposed to get some hotter weather in the coming week and then I hope that's the last of the really hot stuff for this year. I haven't been doing any crafting, but I've re-read the instructions for the flannel shirt pillow a few times, so I'll be ready to work on that soon. I've also been reading some good books. I like the ones where there are a series of books and some of the same characters reappear again so you can read what has happened with them. The ones I'm reading now take place in a small town in Western New York. It's a pretty fictional town the author has created. Take care everyone!
