Happy week 5 of this challenge. I recently was part of an online book club group and the book we read was Mindless eating (or why we eat more than we think) by Brian Wansink. Today's topic comes from that book. (and maybe a few more this week) I just noticed that the book was written in 2006 (I thought parts of it seemed kinda outdated) but it still has lots of valid points.
Fruit lovers vs. Vegetable Lovers
Are fruit lovers different from vegetable lovers ? In the book, they surveyed 770 people and found some interesting differences.
Compared to the average person, fruit lovers:
1) Often eat dessert with dinner
2) Spend little time cooking
3) Avoid new recipes and entertaining
4) Enjoy an occasional candy bar
While vegetable lovers (compared to the average person):
1) Like to try new recipes and entertain at home
2) Enjoy spicy foods
3) Think they cook nutritiously
4) Enjoy an occasional glass of wine with dinner
(from the book) If we step back, the survey results make snese: fruits are convenient, but veggies often require preparation. Someone who's vegetable prone may be more accustomed to cooking and more comfortable with new recipes .
Fruits are generally sweeter than vegetables and fruit lovers may prefer sweeter foods, desserts and candy. Vegetable, however, run the range from bitter to savory. That's probably why vegetable lovers prefer the tastes of exotic or spicy foods.
QOTD: Do you consider yourself a fruit or vegetable lover ? Based on the above criteria, is your answer different ?
