WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (therefore acknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going

C89D16, every morsel tracked, 21 points (2 rollovers), 8 water, 1245 calories
This week – 18 unused rollovers and 21 unused weeklies. No WW meeting this week.
I did walk down to the clubhouse for pool after which my friend and I took a short walk then I walked home. Also some grocery shopping. But no # steps to talk about.
Off to Columbus Sat til Tuesday. I’ll try to check in. Have a good weekend BFFs.
Jane – I’m really glad your visit in prison worked out for you. It has to be a terribly depressing environment, but I guess, like everything else, you get used to it. How fantastic that you were able to keep your eating in check regardless.
Jan – To each his own, as they say. For me the calorie count (along with points) works, I’m really curious how they are going to adjust the program next year. I know many people in my community for whom the flex (zero) points don’t work. I hope they make some significant adjustments.
Edesia – So sorry to hear about your teeth. I have a good friend that just went thru that. Despite the discomfort, which I hear is manageable, the cost is atrocious. I hope you’re kidding about a second job. How in the world would you fit that in? Very sorry too that Thursday won’t work for me. I’ll just be getting back from the weekend in Columbus (Tuesday) and wouldn’t feel right taking off again. Let me know, please if you can come up with another date a bit later in the season. I'll be in the city Sept. 10th so that week is out too.
Lori – Thanks and thanks. Wishing you another successful weekend.

I walked over 12,600 steps yesterday, but I had a close to 2000 calorie day. Fortunately, I tracked everything and thought about everything I ate. Obviously, yesterday could have been better in terms of calorie consumption. Here is what I would change for the next time (presumably far in the future) that I end up with a lunch date at a really nice restaurant and a dinner party: -For lunch, I would not have bread (200 calories), and would not have ordered curried chicken coconut soup for my main course (could have saved about 150-200 calories by ordering something else). The soup was a rookie error. Coconut milk is high in calories. I need to stick with items that are familiar and for which I am able to estimate the calories. - For dinner, I would have a slightly smaller portion of chicken and not have the skin, assuming that I could have pushed to the side in subtle manner (100+ calories saved). I would not have had a (measured) jigger of gin (110 calories) on an already high calorie day.
I will learn from this. One thing that I have learned already is that I do not really care about bread at restaurants and it always adds unnecessary calories. So, bread at restaurants is out. A second thing that I have been learning throughout the past 8 weeks back on this thread, is that although I very much want to be slim again and remain slim, I very much want to keep my active life, which involves a lot of eating outside the home. So, my behavioral priority is to work upon balancing the two. I think that I have made more progress on this issue in the past 8 weeks than I had made during any period of any length in my past. This balancing finally seems "doable" for me.
Nancy - Have fun. Do you think that your recent successes are due to counting calories in addition to points? Edesia- How nice to hear from you. I too would love to see you. Perhaps when you and Nancy ultimately meet in NYC, I will be able to join you. Unfortunately, I am working until an October 5 deadline and then leaving for Japan on October 11. So, if not this time, let's think about the next time. (Nancy already knows that I am eager to see the two of you.) Implants are worth it, although expensive. Then again, I am the person who, just two to three years ago, had orthodonture and cosmetic dentistry. Jan-What is up with the dog, per vet? I am sorry. Lori-Your job does sound great. Working 3 miles from home, in and of itself, is something that few can manage and it means a ton in terms of lifestyle. Does your husband also work locally? It is the kids visiting incarcerated parents and appearing to believe that it is "normal" that breaks my hearts.
When will Kathy be back? Hi to everybody else. Thank you all for everything.
Jane

Good morning. The vet appointment went well. We are treating for a couple of possible things. Without X-rays, it’s hard to know for sure what’s going on. It quite possibly could be esophagus mega, where the esophagus remains stretched out. That would also explain the weight loss. She lost pounds since her last appointment, putting her down 20 in the last year. She was not overweight to begin with. Fingers crossed that the meds work.
I’ve been eating a quick and easy meal: black beans, brown rice, avocado, and tomato all mixed together in a bowl. I sprinkle some taco seasoning over the top and eat it room temperature. It’s great to eat on the go since it doesn’t need to be kept cold or eaten hot.
Nancy, have a wonderful time in Columbus!
Jane, I noticed your regret for eating bread the past few times you went out. Definitely something you won’t mind forgoing. Great analysis of your eating yesterday. We’re constantly learnjng, aren’t we?
Lori, it sounds like you had a lovely last Friday off.
Edesia, oy re: the implants. Did DH get his peach pie?

Jane - Your assessment above is spot on. I would never suggest that you cut back on your life style which includes a lot of meals out. Before my husband's current condition which keeps us out of restaurants, we used to eat out 6 or 7 nights a week. I had to learn, therefore, to manage those meals. I learned, for example, to ask myself what my portion size would be if I were eating home. So, for example, when we have filet mignon at home, I have 4 oz. Why therefore would I need to have six or eight ounces in a restaurant? So as soon as the food came, I'd put everything over 4 oz on a separate plate to share or take home. Similarly, I don't have bread with my meals at home, so where is it written that I must have bread with my meals in a restaurant. When I have a barbecued chicken at home, the first thing I do is remove the skin. Why not do the same in a restaurant. Never would I have cream soups at home... yada yada yada. When I eat out now, it is such a rarity, that I will choose (and isolate) items I don't normally have a home. Your situation is different. You are, it seems, eating out for social reasons and not especially to indulge. What I learned is that once I got past the ordering moment, I was perfectly happy with my simple, countable, accountable meal. Luckily for me, I don't drink, so that's an issue I can't address. I hope this is of some help though I'm not sure I expressed it as well as I'd like. I actually tried to call you but no answer. Next time you eat out, think of it as a scientific experiment. More and more you'll zero in on the way you can be most comfortable from both a food and social perspective. And yes, my recent successes are exactly as you state, i.e. counting calories in addition to points. And of course it would be wonderful if the three of us could spend some time together.
Jan - Glad to know you got some good news at the vet. Have a great weekend!
OK I better get ready..........
