5. Combine sesame oil, soy sauce and minced scallions for an easy Asian dipping sauce for vegetables and steamed dumplings.
6. Create a creamy sauce for nachos, tacos, burritos and Tex-Mex wraps by adding fat-free sour cream to prepared salsa.
Any other ideas for sauces or dips for nachos or other Tex-Mex foods? Here's an addition to the sour cream salsa tip above:
8 oz FF sour cream 8 oz salsa 1 pkg Hidden Valley Ranch dry dip or dressing mix (80 calories, 0 g fat, 0 g fiber) Combine and refrigerate

Sauces:
* catsup and vinegar and sugar if you need it for chinese sweet and sour (a friend from Hong Kong said she uses ketchup and vinegar only and saves money on the sweet and sour sauce) * tahineh, lemon juice, garlic (pounded in mortar with pestle) and water as a sauce for falafel or chickpea burgers * Mexican: I usually make salsa with labne for salads that I want a dressing on...like taco salads * Salsa: the usual ones made quickly in a food processor but since my sister can't do onion and garlic any more she is using a bit of infused oil or greens of the onion or fruit instead.

Great ideas,
I love the idea of making the salsa dip, I will try it.
Wonder if you could use artificial sweetner in the Chinese sauce instead of the sugar?

The ideas for the yogurt dips sound delicious. I like to have some sort of dip for carrots and snap peas for something to eat after work in the afternoon. This reminded me of a dip mix at the food co-op. Need to remember that next time I go there.
Beverly, I'd think that one of the artificial sweeteners that measures like sugar would work for that sweet and sour sauce. I haven't been paying a lot of attention to the kinds of alternative sweeteners on the market recently. I'd suspect the volume of sugar helps thicken the sauce. Ketchup is fairly sweet to start...as Cathy mentioned, maybe it wouldn't even need much or any? Sounds like another good idea to try.

Happy Labor Day everyone. Been super busy this weekend but wanted to check in. Saturday (non food bank weekend) we ended up going for a 6 mile hike. Hadn't been on this particular trail before and quite enjoyed it. The nice thing is that it is only about 15 miles from where I live, so quick access. Then worked in my yard for a couple of hours.
Sunday after church I borrowed a pickup and spread a load of mulch. Still have the pickup today and hope to go back and get another load. I also want to work on the path in my back yard. It needs the stone pavers laid back down and then I want to seal in between. Also yesterday I noticed I needed to replace 13 fence boards, so while I have that pickup, will make a trip to the lumber yard. Right now I am waiting for a friend who is going to help me pull out a dead rose bush.
I will be glad to get back to work to rest No zumba class tonight because of the holiday, but definitely getting in my steps.
