I joined weight watchers in the 70s, when I wasn't exactly overweight... thing is, I was very sickly and I knew I needed help and guidance in nutrition. So I weighted my pockets down with penny rolls just to get in (you had to be overweight!) There I found the exchange plan(program after the dreaded tuna/liver program was out), which built me a strong foundation, in teaching me the amounts from each food group I needed each day, to be healthy.
Years later, after my child was about 4, I returned to weight watchers when they had just come out with TURNAROUND, which offered the flex & core plans. I really needed to count points, because I lie to myself a lot about what I eat, so core would not work for me. It later became momentum. I did excellent with both of those, and wrote my points for years, in notebooks (like you see me do now). I have 4 columns, the first is the total points from each line I write, the second is the total from that meal, the third is the subtraction of those points and the remaining points available, and the last fourth column is the weeklies. I EAT ALL MY POINTS! Be they dailies, flex weeklies or exercise points, I eats them (my pets taught me to put an s on that word, and I like it, ha, ha) I eats them all and lose weight.
SO, that brings us up to more current times, when a couple of years ago, I had become lazy about points and was still writing it down, but not controlling how many breads and fats and was mostly just making sure I was still getting the other food groups in. So my physical showed that I had crossed from being pre-diabetic to diabetic and my blood pressure was up. I went BACK to weight watchers online and did the plus points program online & with an ap. I felt disconnected from it, because I was not looking at the data that made the points and so didn't appreciate what they were. I did lose weight and save myself then, but have floundered again, in a bad way, and my health was diminishing at a rapid rate. I find it nearly impossible to say, "now don't eat things that are bad for you" because there is a 'don't go there' but there is not a 'go here instead' with that statement! So, fearing I was killing myself, I made the resolve to start watching my points again. I started Sept 1 with the old TurnAround classic points flex plan. I also keep my exchanges (from old 70s food plan)at the top of my page, to make sure I am eating all food groups. In the first week, I lost 5 pounds! I started my second week Saturday, and I am a bit of a geek and like to scrutinize things, so I'm doing the exchanges and the classic points, AND looking at the old points plus, I realize they take into consideration carbs, and since I'm diabetic, I decided to do it too and I'd be able to compare the systems! I bought the itrackbites app and it was marginally functional & buggy as the free version, but for only something like $30 for a year, I got the full version and it is wonderful, with food guides and restaurant guides and you can choose any points based program (they call points 'bites'), so I chose to do my points plus there, as I have no materials for that program. I'm loving all 3 programs, and it is really keeping me focused doing them, as I'm a person who has to really have tunnel vision, or I don't do something. I know I have already lost more weight this second week, I can feel it!
