People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Monday: Karen E; Tuesday: Ann; Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C: Sunday: Gail.

Gail I feel so bad for you and the situation you find yourself in. I know you say how much your daughter loves you but I don't understand how she can keep taking advantage of your generous nature and then get angry when you are trying to protect your own credit. I'm sorry if it upsets you by me saying this but I truly don't understand. I know Fred and I are helping Debbie right now but it's our offering the help and trying hard to get her to accept it, plus she has already told us how she will pay it back, and I guess that's why I'm having trouble understanding your daughter expecting so much from you. Again I'm sorry if I upset you by saying this but I care about you and am worried for you.
Fred's golfing this morning and then we might go to Costco and at 4:30 meeting Debbie at another duplex she's interested in as the owners of the first one might be pretty firm on their price and this new one is everything she wants plus in a neighborhood she loves. I hope once she sees it she still loves it and since it's owned by Caterpillar and not a person maybe they'll be more willing to negotiate the price.

Good morning. Sandy everyone must be sleeping or busy.
I’m trying to think of a way to used leftover chicken for dinner without going to the grocery store again. I’ve made so much soup I don’t think I’ll do that.
Not much going on today. Hurricane Michael is headed for the Florida/Alabama coast. We should get some rain tonight. Another storm is forming off the coast of Africa. They can stop anytime now!

Did anyone bother to make a list of birthdays? I did not. Please share if you have one.
I am looking for ways to use nutritional yeast. I will add it to my chili for lunch since it’s supposed to taste like cheese.

Good morning
I lost .6 at TOPS last night so that boosted my morale. I love the new app, wasn't too hard to figure out however the wins are new and I haven't really read up on how to use them. I too like the blue dots. I track everything even the 0 sp that I eat. I just want to see everything in writing.
Busy morning as I have laundry on tap plus had to take 1 DS to DHS.
Karen....to answer your question about buddying up with my sister that moved in, she's not into eating healthy at all. I'm the only one in the family. So it does make it hard. My other sister who loves to bake does watch what she eats somewhat but only because of her medical issues.

Good morning all. I got up at 6:30, rolled the cabbage and took them to Jeanne's house in the crock pot I will not go over again with spaghetti sauce and meatballs in another crock pot. Kitchen is emptied except for a bakers rack that I can't move. I am going to mop it and then steam clean before they get here.
Ruth I often take an apple and peanut butter to work for a light dinner when working. It does fill you and stay with you. Carrols and hummus is my other choice.
Vikki prayers for your friend and as Jane said I also keep you all in my prayers daily. You are like family to me and your needs are my concerns.
Gail I agree with what Jane and Sandy said. Your DD must think you have unlimited funds that you are not letting her know about. I'm sorry to say this, but I think she is just plain selfish.
Off to get meatballs going and then back to do laundry, mopping, more laundry and steam clean the kitchen.
OH......Hughy, my pom mix foster, has been offered to me as a senior to senior. This means he will not be a foster, but truly mine. However senior to senior program means that the rescue will take care of any and all bills. I can basically just give him a house to live in and love. They will even give me the food for him. I am thinking it over seriously. My only expense would be to pay a sitter when I go out of town and I already do that for my forever foster as I feel that she is mine and I want to take some responsibility for her. I have been told that I can get reimbursed, but I never ask for it.
I don't know if I am more excited about the floor or the dog!!!!!

Geri I think I’ll be going to your DD’s house for dinner tonight. You are an awesome cook. I wonder if that type of pet rescue is available here? I know how expensive pet medical care can be.
I have made the jello/pudding dessert for me and plain jello for Don. Hooray, I found dairy free cool whip? I’m slowly remembering foods that helped in the past.
I think I’ll cut and freeze the chicken for later. Tonight is taco salad.

Good morning (at least for the next 20 minutes!).
I just got home from my ladies Bible study at church. We have a really diverse group of ladies signed up for this study. I love that there are all age groups represented.
This afternoon I have my monthly chiropractor appt but after that is over I don't have anything else on my agenda.
Geri, sounds like a great deal for both you and Hughy!
Joanne, congrats on the weight loss! I really like getting those blue dots too. They give me incentive to keep getting as many as I can each week.
Sharon, there's a pretty good website called MyFridgeFood that lets you enter what ingredients you have on hand and then gives you recipes using those ingredients.
Sandy, good luck to your DD on her home search.
I got an update on my friend last night but haven't heard anything since then. Right now she's still sedated and her condition hasn't worsened so we'll keep praying and believing for a good outcome.

Hi Everyone
I'm loving these days off. It's such a treat to have time to cook. I had Minestrone Soup for breakfast yesterday and today and I've decided to bring that to DDs to have for breakfast each day. It is delicious, satisfying and keeps me full all morning! So, I just made another pot. DGD likes the beans from the soup so perhaps I can get her to eat the rest, too! She likes my Butternut Squash mixed into Pasta dish, so maybe. Sharon, I've been daring and topped my Minetrone serving with a bit of Nutritional Yeast. Although, I've been leery, it is tasty! Very low sodium, rich in nutrients!
Today I made 'Sweet Potato, Black Bean, Quinoa Burgers. (Another way to use those beans, Sharon). This recipe called for 1.5 c cooked Quinoa (about 1/2 cup uncooked) 2 medium cooked Sweet Potatoes and one can of Black Beans, rinsed and drained. I sautéed minced onion, red bell pepper and garlic and added that. Chili powder, cumin and oregano were also added. It amounted to 10 patties, using 1/3 cup measure. The recipe suggested a Chili Lime Mayo when served. 1/4 c mayo, l t chili garlic sauce & juice of 1/4 lime. I'll have one with a spicy Avocado topping; Avocado, Cilantro, Lime, Garlic, Hot Sauce.
Sharon, another way that I get my bean allotment each day is Cannelini Bean Puree, delicious topped with roasted Butternut, Red Bell Pepper, Onion, Zucchini Green Beans and anything else on hand!
I'm going to try this Zucchini Banana Bread next. Hopefully it will be good for DGD. It's made with Rolled Oats, blended until fine. 1 c mashed Banana, 1 c grated Zucchini along with the usual baking soda, baking powder, cinnamon, vanilla, Maple Syrup or agave, instead of 1/3 cup of oil I will use apple sauce. Glad that you are enjoying the Plant Based recipes, Ruth. I feel so good with all of these nutritious foods!
I'm also eyeing a Vegetable Tagine to serve over the Bean Puree!
I've been using this mixture that is supposed to Detox Kidneys, since my Gallbladder removal and it seems to work. 1 cup pure cranberry juice, 1 cup pure grape juice, 2 t freshly squeezed lemon juice, 1 t grated ginger, 1/2 t turmeric powder. Add all to a Mason Jar. Set aside for 30 mins. Strain. Drink some everyday.
That's so exciting about the doggie, Geri. These lucky pups to have you as a Mama!
Joanne, so much temptation. I'm lucky that my DD doesn't have tempting foods since I'm there everyday. My little girls parents have chips, etc that are often hard to resist. I have to bring my walnuts and apricots to help me stay away! Congrats on your loss!
Vicky, glad to hear that Gail is hanging in. May it be a sign of improvement!
Sandy, the duplex sounds exciting. Is it near you?
It's common to feel so guilty to not help our kids as we have been their caretakers through most of their life. Unfortunately when it gets to the point of enabling, it let's them dig the hole deeper and someday when we don't have the funds, they will be at the point of no return. Never feel guilty for helping someone stand on their own two feet independently. It may hurt at first and it is uncomfortable but be strong, you are helping in the long run! Also, we have no one to turn to for financial aid and do not want to be a burden so we must take that into account, too! Lots of love getting through this!
What a nuisance. My tire light came on, so I had air added on Wednesday. Now the light is on again. Perhaps one of the tires has a slow leak. I just saw this driving home from the Casino yesterday. Hopefully I'm not going out to a flat. Guess if the tires look okay today I will take the car to the nice gentleman who put the air in for me at his station the other day. Like Gilda Radner said 'It's always something'!
Guess I'd better get dressed and take a look in case I do need AAA. I'm off to pick up my little grils at school and later go the Phil Collins concert. Enjoy the day everyone!

Good afternoon, friends. I have been to chair movement, though the driver picked me up early to take me back so I didn't do much. At least I moved...
I love my new carpet. It feels wonderful under my bare feet. Next on my list are winterizing my heating/cooling unit, sanding the hardwood floors, cleaning windows and getting new shades. The place is really starting to look good, although I have almost no furniture on account of getting rid of it for the move. I have an old, very stained couch. I think I might buy an inexpensive one. I can't stand sitting on this one.
The most effective way to do it, is to do it. — Amelia Earhart
I don't mind anyone's saying anything about DD. I have not heard from her, but had to do what I did. She has done a lot for me, which I appreciate, but is living beyond her means and I can no longer help her in that way.
Good luck with the new duplex, Sandy.
I don't have the birthday list either, Sharon. Can someone post it?
Joanne, congrats on the loss!
Exciting news about the dog, Geri!
Vicki, the Bible study class sounds lovely.
It will be warm today and tomorrow. Fall? Summer? The weather has been so erratic lately.
The home care aid is coming this afternoon to help me shower. Hooray!
I'll BBL. Have a lovely day.

I woke at 8 a.m. today. Late for me, but I was tired all yesterday. DH decided he wanted to go out for breakfast and he doesn't like the two closest places so we went to another and I had pumpkin pancakes. Delicious! Then on to Spanish class. Fewer today. Schedules are so complex This is my last class until we get back, so I had only 2, but I got something out of each. DH wants to drive around and take pics for possible paintings. So, we're going soon. I hope. I need to get back for a dental appointment in a couple of hours. Cool again today. High 30's. So, heat is on. Sigh. I hope it warms up when we get back! Ah, Joanne, I was hoping you'd have support. You are going to be so strong-willed! i read an article similar to this recently but I can't find the one I first read. This is interesting and it talks about fluctuations in body weight day by day. thefitnessfocus.com/health-nutrition/normal-body-weight-fluctuations-explainedNothing much going on here ... I should start doing a few things toward packing! I have decided not to buy anything new. We'll wash our clothes in laundromat washers twice (taking a week's worth of clothes) and that seems to be so hard on things. So I'll wear my collection of travel stuff. Gail, you do so much for DD. I'm glad you're doing more to take care of yourself. I'd like to go to a casino. I do like to gamble. Fun recreation!

Late to the party, but am always thinking of all of you! Just like Geri, I also keep you all in my prayers daily and feel like you are my extended family. Today I did not stay for the entire Fit 4 Life class. After cardio instead of using resistance bands for our legs workouts she did old fashioned leg calisthenic type workouts. She did them a few weeks ago and I think that is how I strained the ligament on the inside of my knee. I finally got the leg feeling better, so when she started on them today I did some alternative exercises for about 10 minutes and then I just left. As for Hurricane Michael, it looks like we will get a bit of rain and wind but are not in the direct path. We are about an hour from the beach. Those areas will get 2 to 4 ft. storm surges. My daughter in SC is in the direct path and will hit her area on Thursday. I know she is concerned about flooding. Hopefully Michael will lose steam by then. Sharon, I have been thinking about getting nutritional yeast. I bought some when I first started WW 16 years ago and couldn't stand it. My tastes have changed so might give it another try. Before you buy any read this article on dangers of nutritional yeast (who knew?) www.thehealthyhomeeconomist.com/nutritional-yeast-dangers/Geri, How cool about Hughy being offered to you on the senior to senior program. I have never heard of it but it sounds terrific that rescue will take care of any bills! Marlo, You are such a healthy and inventive cook. You are an inspiration!

There is a lot of concern for Michael, but I did not go to TOPS this evening. Tornadoes have been dancing around the state since about 2:20 this afternoon. They have 5 pointed on the map at the moment but total about 12 across the state so far. I did get to school to pick Kaesen up then hurried home. Tornado watch for our area until 9:00. Cold front coming thru so high temps in 40's tomorrow up to 50's for a few days.
Lost .02 this morning at WW so down a solid 4# since first of September. Closer to wearing those shoes for weigh in but will see if this continues.
Gail we finally got our children and grands standing on their own two feet. Occasionally the DGD with the three young children asks for a boost but she gives us a written check with the date we can cash it and so far she has met that date. It's only for $200.00 or less. She is the sole provider of her family and works very hard. We have been down the long road before but they are doing much better now. We never asked our parents for anything as we knew they also didn't have it.
DH has fixed his own meal so best find something for myself. I like Mac and tomatoes so that may be it. I will add that my lengthening prayer list include each of you and whom ever you ask prayers for. My brother in law's cancer has now moved into his hip bone. Started in lung. We are very concerned.
Waving to all.

I am here just before midnight. I had a busy day and it started with a phone call from the Dr. that Don goes to on Thurs. Don answered the phone and then he ended up on his knees on the floor and did not have the strength to get himself up on his feet. He didn't want my help so I stood behind him and kind of held on to him to keep him from going down again. He says his legs just felt like they didn't work and after he got to a chair he finally felt stronger. this is so scary for us.
so we just took it easy and the bug man came and of course could not find any ghost ants but says there are black ants in my neighbors tree so he sprayed the perimeter of our house. It was after 11 at that point and we started our errands. Don stayed in the car while I went to the library and then to Lowes. I wore myself out in Lowes trying to find what I needed and then I went to the dollar store. Next was Costco and the first time for Don to get out of the car and don's hearing aids to be checked again and the man told us we needed an appointment. I told him the problem was caused by our previous appointment. Not happy with him so made an appointment for 3:00 on Sat. Sent Don to sit in the food court while I picked up the things I needed but again had to go thru the whole store. Then we went to Walmart and for the first time Don used the motorized chair. He was a little leary of it and afraid he would run into someone. We again were all over a big store. We came home and only had time to put away cold things and got to Ruby Tuesday 10 min. before the $5 special ended so just barely got our order in. Came home and did nothing for awhile and then put the rest of the purchases away from Lowes, $ store, Costco and Walmart. So the rest of the day was spent watching TV or reading.
Michael is causing flooding of our beaches at high tide times today and for the next day or 2 they say. It is now a CAT 4 so the people in its path are in a lot of danger.
Geri---wonderful about the dog.
Waving to all and heading to take my last pills and sleep --I hope.
