People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Monday: Karen E; Tuesday: Ann; Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C: Sunday: Gail.

Good morning friends.
My friend from camping messaged me that we left in time. She said it was a cold rainy muddy mess. I hate to tell you all but the weather today in Sebring is beautiful. Right now 68 with a high of 84 today. We might go to Bartow for an antique street thingy.
Last night I put the Fritos in the garbage. I lost another .8 of the weight I had gained. Dr. furhman’s book “Eat To Live” is very scientific so far. I like the idea of his big salad but the dressings made from nuts is a curious thing. I’ll try one. Ruth do you follow him online and do you have a cookbook?
Jane how did Don do yesterday? I thought maybe you’d post last evening.
Karen C are you packed? How long will you be gone? Have a fabulous time.
Gail did everything happen yesterday, such as clean windows? Pedi?

Sharon yes you did leave just in time as we had snow yesterday! Didn't stick and was very pretty coming down, but OMG snow in October!
I do have the WW app but the latest update can't be done on my iPad as it's too old. The app did update on Fred's phone but he always has it with him. I know all the terms will change such as meetings will be workshops and centers will be studios and leaders coaches but to me that means nothing and I did see some of the rewards for winning points and that doesn't interest me either but I know more will be discussed at my meeting. And I have already had my goal changed by my doctor so can't do that again.
I did get to Costco yesterday. Bought their big pan of mac and cheese as Maija's loves it! They also had pre-cooked ribs so got that plus the Kirkland chicken breasts. Didn't get a rotisserie chicken this time. I also got one of their large fruit bowls so as to see if I can get Maija to eat more fruit and she was very happy to see that.
Today is senior recognition at the swim meet so Debbie ordered flowers from the three of us and Sam asked permission to get her some as well. This guy is incredible, as how many teenagers would ask permission to give flowers! Then last night Debbie said the nuns are sponsoring a youth pilgrimage to Italy in April and are only taking 45 students and also need chaperones so Debbie filled out the forms and Maija will turn them in Monday. I hope they get accepted. But it was funny as Maija said to Sam maybe I shouldn't do this as I'll be gone on our one year anniversary. He told her first of course you're going and second we can celebrate when you get back. They'll be gone 10 days and will be in Italy for her 18th birthday and also it will be one year since the awful prom night.
Going to my meeting this morning so will give it a chance as I know so much of my discouragement is all the stress of being so concerned about Debbie and Maija. We're looking at a house Sunday that she loves but is on the same street as their current house. But her lawyer said don't make an offer no matter how much you love it until I get in touch with you Monday as I will have talked to Jeff's lawyer and will be able to tell you if Jeff is willing to sign the form allowing you to buy a house. I'm thinking he will refuse as he's still angry that she won't buy him out. None of this seems fair as this is all Debbie's money yet he can control what she buys. At least he can't say one word about the car as even though her name is on the title we bought it and gave it to her as a gift and her attorney said gifts are not marital property.

Good morning
I tossed and turn quite a bit last night so it's a slow going morning. Not sure what I'll be doing today other than going to Mass for 4. I too am struggling about whether I should continue my ww and TOPS meetings, but like Karen I need to be accountable to an outside scale as I know if I only depend on mine at home it won't help me to stay OP.
There's always something going on in our lives and stress is a big factor in my not losing weight and eating my emotions.

Good Morning!
I am doing the happy dance! I also lost another .8 and though still not at goal I am back to the weight I was when I went to the Dr. in April. I have a Dr. appt on Wednesday.
We are loving the cooler weather. Last night we took the Corvette out to Costco. We went with the top down. It was a gorgeous night for it! We usually eat dinner at home on Friday night, as we did last night before going to Costco. When I saw the horrendous traffic I kept telling Mike "This is why we eat at home on Friday night". Being in the Corvette we didn't even mind the heavy traffic.
Sharon, I check Eat to Live Quick and Easy Cookbook out at the library. The only recipes I have tried are the chocolate peanut butter smoothie and the no-cook strawberry to-go oatmeal. Both very good. I have only been dressing my salads with white balsamic vinegar but I am putting more on my salad than I used to, like sauteed mushrooms and broccoli slaw or sliced broccoli, cauliflower, 1/2 c beans and some type of nut or seed and a tablespoon of goat cheese. I plan to try one of the dressings in his cookbook. I just have not had the time.
Sandy, I know how frustrating those older iPads can be. I used to have a 2 that was so slow. It frustrated Mike more than it did me. I just got a new 5 in April and I love it. Its one of those new cheaper versions and cost about $329. I love it and don't regret the purchase.

good morning
Sharon Thanks for your concern. The surgeon ended up doing both eyes instead of just one. We were there about an hour and then Don stayed in the car while I ran in the bank and Bealls and the library but from the time we left home until we got back was 3 1/2 hours and then we both sat down and slept. After he said he saw black dots floating around and used the two kinds of drops about 3 times before bed time. I haven't asked him if he sees those dots this morning. The new med the kidney Dr. put him on was free at walmart. He seems to get many of his meds free at walmart.
This afternoon Don goes for the hearing aid appointment and tomorrow we have a bocci brunch. We are not doing bocci this year since his risk of falling is so great but we have paid for the membership so will just be social members.
I feel like I will be relieved to be done with the line dance classes. My heart is just no longer in it and I just don't want to plan it.

Good morning. Jane I am glad you are good with your decisions. I know it is hard to decide to give something up, but like you I am usually happy once it happens. I am saying no to more and more alterations as I am so busy with what the rescue needs and the pay is the same. I do not charge for bed covers and things she needs for the dogs; only for things that she is selling on her apparel site, Complimentees.
Sandy - snow?!!!I am not there yet I was 51 when I woke and will go to 67 and then back to low 50s or high 40s tonight. I consider this true fall for me. Jeff is really being difficult. I hate to use the word, but he is an idiot. He thinks he can still control everything and will be surprised when the divorce is over that he has lost his power. Maybe not surprised and that is why he does his best to prolong everything.
Sharon and Ruth thanks for bring up the recipes. I have never heard of them or the book, but if either of you try one of the dressings please post the recipe if you can. I find it fascinating.
Off to make the kids pattern for cobbler apron as I only have one made and taking it to the craft baraar setup this evening. Have to pack everything in the car before I go to work and then to the venue for a short time. I am going to ask Jeanne to come to my work and trade cars with me, go to the venue and help my friend Beth set up while I am still at work. She is still sleeping so I don't know if she can, but that would be a tremendous help. Time is ticking away, BBL

Greetings: stayed up too late again last night! I've starte watching and liking the Jimmy Kimmel show. Don't know how that got started but this trip will nip it in the bud, I hope.
Okay. found my Fingerprint book from WW a few years ago. I just opened it and decided I'd do the question from whatever was on the pages.
So, page 108
QOTD: Have you made a list of what is better when you are on the plan? Examples include having more energy. happy with yourself for being good to yourself, not as crabby with family, happier in your clothes. This was probably one of our questions years ago, so if you did it then or something like it, revisit it. And "the plan" is what your particular plan or program is since we have a variety. What is better when you are on the plan?
Bonus QOTD: So, iff that doesn't strike a chord with you, another QOTD comes from what Ruth wrote. What does it mean to you to stay on your plan/program? What IS your plan/program? Does it need to be reviewed and maybe updated? Have you been doing something that just isn't working anymore? Is your plan not friendly with your life? What would you do/how would you live your life if you weren't on this plan. Take the time to figure what changes you need to make in your plan to make it work for you. It's yours and your lifestyle. The best we all can do is tell where we are.

DS will be here about 11:30 and we are going to a Mexican restaurant that we like. I had one really good points meal, but it was not greatly satisfying. I think I'll opt for the fish tacos. They have absolutely delicious salsa so I'll count out a few chips and content myself with them rather than ravaging the bowl!
Packing won't start until this afternoon.
Yesterday was an uncoordinated day. the kind that makes me crazy. I'd wanted DH to see his podiatrist before we went so that was at 2:30. That means we can't play bridge and a movie is dicey because of the time. But we did manage to see A Star is Born. Will go on Groovy Movies. We actually got to a movie. The problem is that I had to meet him there and drove home in the dark. It is so dangerous for me to drive at night. I thought we'd have enough dusk to drive home. Nope.
I followed DH for a point then he wanted to take us down a quieter street but I couldn't change lanes safely, so I stayed in the busy path. I followed other cars. Whew! cataracts are terrible. The doctor said that's what causing my night issues. I went to see the opthalmalogist this week and he said that with the change in eye drops things are much better and he's not considering another procedure for at least another 3 months. So that's good.
then when DH went to the podiatrist DH told him about how some nights his feet get beet red, swell and hurt. It's gone on for a few years and he's told his doctors, but no one has offered anything as remedy until this one. He said it's like there's like a heart attack in his feet. A blocked artery. It requires a procedure and a stent and his heart doctor doesn't do the foot procedure so we need to go to another. DH doesn't want to call until we get back, but I said, oh no, we're calling Monday morning for an appointment. It'll probably take a month or more to get in. I'd never heard of this. But I will say that I think we are getting better medical care here. I've said that before and it continues.
Now I need to shower and dress.
One final thought about plans and programs. My leader in Tucson also said that when you're tired off the program and it seems that nothing works, that maybe you need a vacation. she advocated time off from the program. Not long, whatever you needed, but hopefully less than a week, a day maybe, and then you wouldn't feel so constrained and come back with a new view.
So, maybe some of us need a break. Personally, I've had a break of sorts for a few months! And yet, I've remained true to the majority of my program because it's been imbedded so deeply in the way I live my life. I don't think of exercise as solely part of WW. Exercise is what I do to feel better and move better and for my clothes to fit better. Even if I just dumped WW, I would not dump exercise.
Anyway. DH came in and said, time to shower and he's right!

Good morning Everyone. Temp is up to 48 now, have been out and bird feedes are up. They might think we have abandoned them as we don't hang when raining which has been almost daily for awhile. Hummingbird's have headed south, do can clean the feeder and store for season. Swept some in other garage and put out some Irish Spring soap in hopes it will detour the nice. Doubtful but giving it a try. Then took my walk so have over half my daily steps in already. It is cloudy but not raining and wind is not strong. Hoping for sunshine later in day. Perhaps snow tomorrow but surely freezing temps at night so can cut and dig canna bulbs and rose bushes.
Everyone is so busy, not sure what will happen here today. DH is watching Rambo at present. Last night I watched a Hallmark movie "A Smile As Big As The Moon". I thought very good based on true story about challenged youth student class from a school attending a Space Camp. First class to do so and therefore opening up the Space Camp program to others with challenges.
AOTD: WW plan, sort of a mixture of new program and older plans. I do track either on paper and/ or phone. I do track all zero food and add the points for those on Points Plus Plan. If on phone I add a food that equals the zero points so I know I am within a certain amount of points and not way over. I know maybe not cool but I have to be honest with myself. As of last Tuesday I was 4# below my goal. I do vary at times but feel this is something I can live with but also NEED to have daily exercise of some sort whether I like it or not.
Enjoy your day.

AOTD when eating healthy, I have more energy and a brighter outlook on things. Sugar and carbs really drag me down.
Karen E congratulations on being below your goal. That’s awesome. I will finally get back to the gym next week. They are offering silver sneakers 4x weekly so I can pick my days. We walked a little this morning at the antique fair but of course not power walking. Don did go with me one day to walk in the mall.
Karen C you should probably not be driving. I gave up driving on my own before cataract surgery. I waited until shuffleboard season was over which was 4 months. I made Don take me places. It was crumby but people were safer.
Ruth just curious, do you eat a lot more fruit on the nutritarian way?

Good afternoon. Wow. I slept until almost noon. I hadn't gone to bed until the wee hours of the morning and really needed this. I awoke to a phone call from DD. It was so good to hear her voice. She said I could stay there longer over Thanksgiving if that week works out for having the floors sanded. I will email the company later. I am listening on NPR to a very sad episode about school shootings and what people do on THIS AMERICAN LIFE. This section is about a couple who lost their daughter at a shooting in a movie theater. They go to memorials for gun shootings all over the country and listen to and calm the parents, friends, etc. It is beautiful but gut-wrenching. Tonight is our Progressive Dinner. I am so glad I do not have to cook or I could not have slept this long. It should be fun and delicious. The way we do it is to meet with different people at each venue. We try to mix up groups so we get to mix with folks we do not usually socialize with. It is a terrific event and I am looking forward to it. YAY for the loss, Sharon. I know you will lose it all. Enjoy the beautiful weather. It is cool and raining here, but should clear later. It will get to the low 50s. It was perfect for sleeping and I love how it feels in the house. I am sitting on my chaise with a beautiful view out past my deck. The trees are turning and, though I hate winter, fall certainly is lovely in New England. I do remember one year when we lived in Westchester County NY when it snowed in October and May. Yikes! I am definitely not ready for winter. The window guy had to postpone as it was too damp yesterday with rain threatening. I am hoping he reschedules soon. I did get a call from the new stove installers and that will happen in two weeks. I got a mani/pedi yesterday. I could not do the repeated bending and straightening of knees so she used the water spray. I cannot tell you what a luxury it felt like. The last time I had one was in July and I cannot do anything down there on my own. Now I can look at my feet without grimacing. OMG, Sandy, I love the way Sam and Maija are with each other. How great is it that she has chosen a beau who is a good man despite the lack of a good role model for a dad. She does have one for a granddad though Joanne, most of us have issues with food and emotions. It is tough. I speak up about it at meetings when I am having issues and get lots of support. Here too, of course. I love how supportive others who understand can be. Sending encouraging thoughts. Driving with the top down sounds delightful, Ruth. I have wanted a new iPad since you got yours. I miss having one. I will wait, though, to see how I do with all of the house expenses. My Mac is very light-weight so I can do ok without one until then. Congrats on the loss. Glad the surgery is over, Jane. And it sounds like it was a good decision to discontinue the line dancing instruction. I am considering whether to go back to work after I recuperate. I do like sleeping later on weekends. Busy as usual with all your good works, Geri. You are an inspiration.

I don't drive at night usually. I'm fine to drive during the day. Doing that yesterday was the only way to make it to the show, but I told DH, it almost wasn't worth it.
Karen E, nice work to get below goal. That's my "goal" so I've got some leeway.
Speaking of changing your goal. It's something that can be done once. And it does make sense.

AOTD (great ones, Karen): Everything is better for me when I am on plan. I sleep better, have more energy, feel good about myself when I am in control and that carries over to everything in my life. I am not so organized about writing things down but I do not need to as I am very aware. Right now I cannot do much in the way of exercise and that is difficult for me as I am usually very active. I have not been very good about the yoga movements my instructor gave me to do and want to get into that. Not being physically active has led to my binging a few times. I bought cereal twice (Cheerios, the only one I could find that was low in sugar) and each time finished off the box in no time. I need to resist bringing that stuff into the house. And I MUST go to a meeting. I really miss them! They are such a help to me. I have had a vacation from WW that I did not want and want to get back now that I can do short drives. I will have to see when I can fit a meeting in.
"Take care of your body. It's the only place you always have to live in."
Karen, it's terrific that you are getting better medical care there. That is one thing I worry about re moving. I loved A STAR IS BORN and will even see it again. I will go to GROOVY MOVIES to see what you thought of it.
Yay for you Karen E for being below goal. I like what you do with the zero point foods.
After checking in with Groovy Movies I will be getting dressed. I need to wash my hair. What a luxury to be doing this so late (it's getting towards 2 PM).
Have a great day, friends.

Jane, Are Don's black dots gone? Did he mean floaters? They are pretty normal as we age. Two years ago after my annual eye drs. appt. my floaters were so bad (much larger than before) that I contacted the dr. They lasted a week. That was the longest they had ever lasted and the last 2 times I had no floaters.
Geri, I will make it a point to try one of the dressing recipes this week. The two that are on my list to try are Easy Balsamic Almond Dressing and Banana Walnut dressing. I will post the recipes if they are good.
Sandy, Stress sure can make you feel like giving up. I like Karen's idea of taking a break or vacation for up to a week if needed. How was your meeting? Someone on another board said they discontinued the Weeklies and now have a recipe card and that they also discontinued WI booklets. I will probably attend a meeting between Thanksgiving and Christmas. At our center they have not changed signs on the building to the new name yet.
AOTD: OMG...all of those things are better when I am on plan, more energy, happier, etc.
Bonus QOTD: So, if that doesn't strike a chord with you, another QOTD comes from what Ruth wrote. What does it mean to you to stay on your plan/program? What IS your plan/program? The best we all can do is tell where we are.
Bonus AOTD: Staying on plan for me is eating healthy, getting daily exercise and following the 8 healthy guidelines (from past WW program). I always keep an open mind and read many books, articles and e-newsletters of maintaining a healthy lifestyle.
