Good morning Joy and all who follow. DD and DSIL got here about 9:30 last night. They stopped to eat early on plus had traffic in the Norfolk area, so it took about 6 1/2 hours. She went to bed before 11, and he and I talked until midnight or so. Then I couldn't sleep. Got maybe a couple of hours but needed to get up at 7:30 to put the corn chowder into the crock pot to warm it back up. The other things I am making are ready to reheat in the oven, and I'm frying breaded green tomatoes(from frozen) because my DBIL with the cancer loves them. I'll need the "kids" to help set up the extra tables and chairs. Otherwise, I'm ready.
Joy, a day of parties for you! DD went to a pig roast in NY state when she was a senior. I dropped her off and stayed a few minutes to chat with the dad whom I knew from our being judges at the speech and debate meets our kids were in. I have to say the sight of the whole pig roasting over an open fire nearly made both DD and I sick. She didn't eat any of it, and she said she tried to stay as far away from it as she could. Guess we should be vegetarian...if it were not for bacon! LOL. I'm sure the people at the cookie party will love that fudge! I decided to make my fudge next week and take to my sister's on Christmas Day. His sister and nephew and family will be there so more people to eat it.
Not sure when I'll be back today....much later no doubt. The family will start arriving at 11:30. The twins and Julian and Amelia too! It will take a village to keep them out of trouble. Yesterday, Lily smacked Donald who then pulled her hair! Chaos ensued. Oh well. I'm hoping DSIL will need Starbucks before then so I can get a latte fix! He used to work at one and is addicted. DD seemed quiet last night. I'm sure she was tired after working all day and then riding so long, but I think coming home for the first time without her dad being here was wearing on her a bit as well. Cricket nearly kissed all the skin off her face! She was so happy to see her sister!
Have a great weekend!

Back from my meeting and I lost 1.4! Definitely will take it and hope it gives me the incentive to be very careful on all the eating out this week but not stressing about it. One thing I have decided is no take home box. Since eating out four dinners I certainly don't need to bring home leftovers to be tempted again.
Roads were just wet this morning but the parking lot was icy so I'm glad Fred decided to take me. We only had 18 people there so it was a good meeting as more people opened up and talked about issues and temptations which helped all of us.
Getting the rest of the laundry done and cleaning the bathroom as definitely not going out again! But waiting on the floors until tomorrow as the pups will just track them all up again!
Bailey has stopped scratching at her ears so she has been catching up on her sleep. Wish I could say the same but I think the cold is a head cold and nothing is helping so guess it'll be chicken soup and tea as the steam from hot things seems to help.

I've had different profile tree photos the last few weeks I think Nancy is referring to that.

Hi Again!
Sharon, the weather turned yucky yesterday and we did not go sit on the cliffs. So, no whales for us yesterday! Enjoy meeting your new neighbor and the party tonight!
Nancy, guess I had my days mixed up (I didn't realize it was Friday, I guess), when I wrote about DD coming home today! Glad they had a safe trip, even though a long one. Yes, first time 'home' for her without her dad, but also the first time in your new home. She probably felt a little lost on both counts. She's probably better this morning! What a crowd you are going to have! Those twins sound like typical siblings at that age! I'm sure they will keep everyone hopping this afternoon! Enjoy your day with all the family. I hope DBIL can make it for a little while.
Sandy, congrats on the loss! Yippee for you! Hope the cold gets better!
Linda, you probably needed that extra sleep! Good idea to rest up for the parties, too. I hope you can go for a short time and enjoy them. You will probably sleep deeply again tonight after the activity!
About the pig - the young man who is cooking it says that yes, it will be cooked outside on a fire, but it will be in an enclosed box. Others I've had were buried under ground. It should be good, but if not, there will be plenty of side dishes to fill me up!
Have a good day ladies. Waving to anyone else who stops by!

Good morning Joy and Sharon; Good afternoon everyone else!
Joy: Sorry the weather was bad for whale watching. I am just fascinated by those creatures. I wonder what they think of us. When I was a new freshman in college one of the boys' dorms put on a pig roast. Their community room had a corner fireplace where they could put a spit across the hearth and have it all under the chimney. (This is going to be a little long. So skip over it if you want.) When Jewish cooks wanted chicken fat to cook with, they took the fat from the bird and also the skin. So when they were done rendering the fat, the skin was always left all crispy and it was fun (and probably not heart-healthy) to eat. In Yiddish that cooked skin is called Gribenes (you can look it up). I had never had roast pork and I wrote home about it and told my parents that the pork skin tasted like gribenes. My DF wrote back (unusual to get a letter directly from him) and I could sense the laughter in his thoughts. He said something like "You, oh daughter of Zion, have discovered pork rinds." I do think I could be a vegetarian--just not a vegan.
Nancy: What a big day for you. I hope your DBIL can come. I know he'll like the fried green tomatoes. The house will be a madhouse with people chasing after the little ones. I'm glad DD and DSIL got there ok. The news stories about the traffic were scary.
SandyIL: Way to go! Great loss. I am SO impressed with all the progress you've made this year. Glad that Bailey is healing already. I've decided that Mika might get one shampooing. Then we'll wait for the culture results. She has very little evidence of a fungus and all that treatment might be for no reason.
Bo: Mika gets handled all day, most of the time at her request, although she does get her 4 pills and inhaler in the morning and 2 pills and inhaler at night. I can clip her nails with "almost" no objection. She and DH have a nighttime ritual where he whisk brooms her. I think I put a video of it on Instagram once. I doubt she'll like to be shampooed though. I'm glad you will see family for Christmas. It's nice they will travel to you.
Sharon: How fun to meet new neighbors. Chicken soup sounds good--our temps dropped about 15 degrees last night and the wind came up thankfully after the light parade. It blew the agave 'tree' in our front courtyard over and scattered some of the ornaments. They were unbreakable ones so no harm done. But now it is soup weather.
Linda: Good for you sleeping in. Your body needs it to heal. You'll be ready for tonight's gathering.
I took some photos of the light parade. Someone counted 72 vehicles! I'll see if I can get them into an album with a link. They're kind of surreal because of the lights in the otherwise pitch black background. I saw some folks whom I see only at this gathering, but mostly chatted with the neighbors I went with and the neighbors from across our street. Afterward the couple who drove me decided to seek out the street that goes all-out and is a destination drive. We couldn't find it for a while but finally got there. It sure is amazing how they make such elaborate displays. DH told me he fell asleep in his chair at 7pm, woke up and was in bed at 7:30. Then he slept 12 hours. So he's better today. (Hurray for me, right?)
Hugs to all.

What a day! The last couple left at 4. There were only 32 , I think, but it seemed like more with all the little ones who never sat down! I've worked on cleaning the kitchen a little but will wash the serving dishes tomorrow after DD leaves. We and Cricket are enjoying the quiet. We had 3 dogs including her, but since all 3 are 12 years old, it was no problem except for the little kids chasing them. My grandnephew's dog is a tiny Westie. I'd never met him or his owner who is a new girlfriend. They all live together in Mrytle Beach. She was born in Bakersfield just like DD was and also lived a long time in a Chicago suburb. Anyway, a good time was had by all. I made sure nearly all the food left with everyone! DBIL did well and is mentally much better for now. His skin tone is yellowish like DH's was though and his eyes are yellow. The liver is ceasing fast to function.
They are on their computers with Star Trek on the TV, which both are ignoring. Cricket is sound asleep in her bed. I'm on my bed lying down but talking to you, typing with one finger! They can eat the leftover corn chowder and the white chili for dinner when they are ready. I'm done!
More later after a period of recovery!

One last check in before the cookie party -
Nancy, what a crowd! Glad it went well, but you are understandably tired! Yes, the 'kids' can fend for themselves for dinner if they are hungry! Glad the doggies all got along and the kids kept the place lively. And, SO glad DBIL was feeling well enough for the party. Great memories for him!
Mickey, the lights looked so pretty. We usually go to the one in Hilo, but did not go this year because it looked like rain. Ha ha to you eating pork rinds! I used to like friend chicken skin back in the day when people still at the skin. It was good!
Sharon, the whales are here through March usually, so we will get to see them at some point. When my DGF was in Maui a few weeks ago, they went on a boat tour to see whales - they saw LOTS and some of them came right up to the boat! What a thrill for them!
I've had a shower, my hair is dry (and curly!), the fudge is loaded on a plate - I put the fire fudge in the center and made a couple of lines to the edge of the plate. Then I put the chocolate fudge around it and up to the 'lines'. It is supposed to look like lava flowing, ha ha! Also made potato salad for the pig roast later. The kitchen is clean and like Nancy, I am DONE! I feel like I've been on my feet all week! I'm kicking back on the computer for about half an hour and will then change my clothes and go pick of DGF to take with me to the cookie party. Also have to drop off the potato salad at the house where the pig is being cooked.
Have a nice evening everyone!
