People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.
Questions of the day: Monday: Karen E; Tuesday: Ann; Wednesday: Sharon; Thursday: Ruth; Friday: Recipe Sharing; Saturday: Karen C: Sunday: Gail.

Happy Sunday all! I am up late. The Progressive Dinner was WONDERFUL. Great food, terrific times.
A friend loaned me her European crutches. They are so much easier to use than the kind we have here that go under the arms.
Thanks for the hint about Black Friday, Ruth. I will look at the prices of iPads then.
Weekends at Costco are a horror show here too, Jane. Sorry about the hearing aids.
QOTD: I just took this quiz about health news in the NY Times and did not do so well--4 out of 7. Try them. What surprises did you find? I will put the answers in my next post.
1 of 7 More than 80,000 Americans died of this illness last winter, the highest number in over a decade: Measles Mumps Flu Meningitis
2 of 7 Eating processed meats like bacon, ham and salami was tied to an increased risk of this form of cancer in women: Cervical cancer Ovarian cancer Uterine cancer Breast cancer
3 of 7 The Mayo Clinic endorses all of the following complementary cancer therapies to relieve nausea or pain except: Acupuncture Aromatherapy Music therapy High doses of vitamin C
4 of 7 Taking a daily baby aspirin has been tied to a reduced risk of: Heart attacks and strokes Colon cancer Ovarian cancer All of the above
5 of 7 A new class of medications called PCSK9 inhibitors appear to be very effective in doing this, but insurers often won't pay for the expensive drugs: Stopping cancer cell growth Mitigating migraines Lowering "bad" cholesterol Easing arthritis pain
6 of 7 Women who drank more of this got fewer urinary tract infections: Cranberry juice Water Coffee Tea
7 of 7 James P. Allison and Tasuku Honjo won the Nobel Prize in medicine for their research on: Cell death How the immune system attacks cancer The way infections spread across the globe The artificial heart

Answers: Flu, breast cancer, high doses of Vitamin C, all of the above, lowering "bad" cholesterol, water, how the immune system attacks cancer.
AOTD: I was most surprised by the facts that drinking more water has such a positive effect on preventing urinary tract infections and that eating processed meats increased the risk of developing breast cancer. I have to read up about the latter.
Going to bed now. I'll be sleeping in but will check in later.

Happy Sunday all. Gail I think you and I and many on this board have a sleeping disorder. I was awake at 5 am.
AOTD: I knew 5 of the answers but for 2 and 7. I was unsure of those. Great fun, I like those types of questions.
Gail good for you getting that pedi. I’ve been so long without I’m almost embarrassed to go.
Sandy Italy sounds wonderful for Maija. Our DGD did that Italy trip as a Senior too. I love that they are immersed in another culture. Not all the world lives like we do.
Karen C - BON VOYAGE and have a great time.
Marlo I love your holiday plans. It’s so nice to see family at that time. This is the one big drawback to living out of state. But we had a lovely long visit this summer.
Jane I believe floaters are more visible after cataract surgery. I hope that’s all it is.
Geri you did not see us wave as we went by this year because we came home a different route. Don is always trying new routes. We actually went through Podunk, Kentucky. At one point my phone lost a signal we were so remote. Not going that way again!
Tracking nutrarian way of eating gives me very few WW points. Now I see why they want us to eat lots of fruits and vegetables.
I roasted cabbage with our dinner last night. I asked Don how he liked it. He answered that he liked it as good as any vegetable I cooked. 😃..... I’m not sure how to take that.

Good morning!
Yesterday was a great day! We drove the Vette to Mike’s nephews to see his NJ cousins who are in town. We spent most of the day at their pool. Last night we had our friends over for dessert. It was fun socializing with everyone.

QOTD: WOW, I got them all right! But I must admit, I was guessing and using common sense on some.

Good morning
Don's laser surgery was to clean up the lens that was put in when he had cataract surgery. He goes back for this to be checked later this month. It has been several years since the cataract surgery. He says the spots come and go.
We are going to a brunch at the clubhouse. It is sold out so a big crowd and I have a load of laundry in so trying to get a bit done before we have to leave. With everyone saving tables it is hard to find a place to sit . I am so not into these social things. But it gets us out of the house and I need to be more social.

Home....food was good. I had a problem carrying juice for the two of us and even though the cups were only half full I manage to shake enough to spill a bit of one. My tremor tends to get worse in situations where I am uncomfortable. Hard to eat in such a situation, too. We are not playing bocci this year. Don is afraid of falling and my tremor makes me uncomfortable with everything so paid our membership last April when it was due. I won't pay it next year. We bought a 50/50 ticket and they gave a lot of prizes. Must have been about 15 of them and we didn't win anything.
Time to check the dryer.

Good afternoon!
We just got home from church a little while ago and now my plan is to spend the rest of the day relaxing and catching up on some laundry.
My company left yesterday around 4pm. We had a wonderful time visiting, shopping. laughing and unfortunately, eating way too much. I'm glad to be back in my normal routine.
I'll have to go back and catch up on the posts from the past few days.

I knew some of the answers but guess I thought cranberry juice was the first choice for unrinary infection and didn't think beyond that. Also heard about the Nobel Prize gentleman but forgot the reason. Don't listen close enough at times. I also guessed at a couple. Nice to learn new things. Thanks for the questions.
Another gloomy day, supposed to be some snow filtering across state. Hoping nothing sticks as have school run in the morning and temps in upper 20's over night. Might see low 60's by Thursday.
Went into town yesterday afternoon to meet DGD at jewlery store, DH went with me but wanted out at restaurant for coffee. Tried to get him to go to McDonald's which was across the street by a block or two. Not. Later he called and said he was walking up town. Then I got another call asking me why Steven was walking and should they pick him up. I said "No, I'm in town I'll pick him up". Know this will continue progressing but wish I knew of some way to make him happy. Also know a person can't make another person happy.
Brother in law with lung cancer in in hospital.sinve Friday.
Have a good day each and everyone.

Busy at craft bazaar. Came right from early mass. Sharon most of Kentucky loses the phone signal. Glad you are back home. I know visiting family, and a change of pace is good, but so is returning home.
Can't wait to get home, have a glass of wine and get into jammies.
