WELCOME TO REGULAR & NEW POSTERS! This thread is full of encouragement & suggestions. New people, welcome! We encourage you to jump in. One day, one hour, one minute at a time is easier to handle than a week, etc. Lurkers, join in
Our goal is 21 days Binge Free (studies show 21 days to break old habits & start new ones!). Whether we make 21 or one, the point is to learn as we go, replace binges with other things to help us through stressful times. Some days are harder than others & we may slip; that's OK. The Binge Monster is in the shadows waiting to pounce. Hopefully this thread provides inspiration, courage, & support to become a Binge Survivor!
You may see different folks on different "Cycles." A Cycle is a 21 day block of consecutive binge-free days. Stay with us for as many cycles as you'd like.
Everyone's definition of a BINGE is different. The Oxford Dictionary defines a binge as a spree of eating and drinking. To many of us, BINGE is defined as "eating without dignity." The dictionary defines "dignity" as a calm and serious manner or style, showing suitable formality or indicating that one deserves respect. Only you can define what a binge is for you. Going over points, as long as it was done with dignity and journaled (therefore acknowledged and "owned") isn't binging--it is up to you to decide.
SPECIAL THANKS TO LESLIE5609 for starting this challenge on the Out of Control Board, in August '02, and thanks to all who keep it going

C90D21, 16 points, 4 rollovers, 8 water, 1197 calories, no exercise at all.
Jane – So nice to hear from you, and so glad you’re loving Japan. As for the one day binge, hard to avoid when on vacation. If I can make a suggestion, enjoy the food but be selective, limiting your choices to things you can’t ordinarily have at home and then pay attention to portion size. Does that sound like a workable approach?
Jan – I’m borrowing from you – No points available to have something before we play pool at noon tomorrow – so I’m going to stall on breakfast, having it at maybe 10:30. That should hold me over for lunch at about 1:30 or 2:00. We do have a cup of coffee at the clubhouse before pool which will also help. I’ll let you know how it goes. Should be fine.

13 non-Core points eaten and 14 APs earned.
Really hard day yesterday. Insurance is blaming me for the accident, so it will go on our insurance. There seems to be some confusion as to where the lane was actually closer, and the police report doesn’t match my story.
We’ll be taking Leila in this afternoon. Her breathing has been labored, and she’s stopped eating. She was having trouble walking this morning. I was hoping she would go in her sleep last night.

Morning, BFF’s! Thought I’d check in to say, “Hi!.” Things are going well. Work is still work and is as busy as ever. DH got a well-deserved promotion, so that was good news. It was a long process, including holding an interim position on top of his regular position. I think he just wanted the process to end and to not be in limbo, more than anything else. I’ve been enjoying the cool weather, but not looking forward to what comes next. A couple of weeks ago, we went to a sculpture park called, Storm King, about an hour and a half north of NYC. We’ve been talking about going there for years. It was really fun and a lovely way to enjoy the outdoors and art at the same time. The leaves had just begun to turn. I’m sure it’s beautiful at peak.
On the health front, I’ve been reading a book, “The Circadian Code,” by Satchin Panda. My interest was to find ways to improve my sleep, which had been pretty poor. The book goes into the research and science behind the circadian clock and how it controls or affects all body processes. It’s really fascinating. One of the main things he recommends is “time restricted eating (TRE)”, i.e. eating within an 8 hour (best), 10 hour, or 12 hour period each day for optimal health. I’ve started to experiment this week with this and some other things mentioned in the book. With my schedule, I’ve been struggling to eat within the 12 hour timeframe, but have been managing. Without a commute it would be much easier. I thought of you all, because the book recommends giving yourself at least two hours (better 3 or 4) between your last intake of food or drink (other than water) and bedtime. This is so that the body can work through digestion before switching into sleep mode and all the physiological processes that entails. The reason is, the body can’t do everything at the same time, without effect. So, “K-closed” has far more going for it than an eating control measure!

(((Jan))) - So sorry about your accident. Glad you are ok, but what a drag. I would think that an insurance company would just hike the rates. That’s what they do. I’m also sorry about Leila. You’ve had a hard week.
Kathy - Thanks for the shout out! It seems like heaven to be able to make a meal with local, organic foods. I wish I had access to organic meats that were affordable. Organic ground beef is available, but anything other than that is ridiculously expensive. I do opt for antibiotic free, though. BTW, a couple of weeks ago you commented on why I might not be posting regularly, i.e. not wanting to focus on food consumption and weight loss. You were correct.
Happy Birthday, Lori!
Nancy - A DOR is just as important as exercise on the the other days. Glad you got to enjoy it.

Morning here in Sedona! Just wanted to check in....DH and I have been enjoying wonderful, challenging hikes. Yesterday after hiking a few miles we climbed a rock (felt like a mountain) got to sit for a while and just take in the beauty surrounding us - The scenery is truly amazing! A birthday I will always remember. I am so grateful for all of you and WW for helping me to keep the weight off and to move more otherwise, I would not be able to do do these hikes. Keep doing your best to be your healthiest best - it is so worth it!!
Nancy, you are my inspiration! Love how active you are! Jan, so sorry about the insurance issues and so sorry about Leila, never easy.... Jane, Enjoy Japan to it’s fullest!! Kathy, I hope your DH finds a little time to enjoy all his hard work.... Edesia, so nice to see your post. Congrats to DH! A few weeks ago I started the 12 hour TRE - I’m finding I really don’t miss the food I ate before 10:30 am
Have a great day everyone! Lori

C39. D6. OP. Tracking. Exercise. Lost .4# this week. I was OP 5 of 7 days last week. Earned 56 APs.
Big instance of emotional eating/overeating. DH cancelled our date night/dinner+movie to do cattle work. I was so angry. I had to drop the kids off in a nearby town (40 miles away) and stopped at the gas station for candy and chips and a diet coke. So I sat alone in my car listening to a podcast and having 'treats' for nearly an hour. Woot woot - how's that for a fun Friday night and vacation day to boot? Amazingly, I didn't finish off the treats, tracked them all and came home for a 0 point dinner (roasted root veggies, scrambled eggs, salsa). So I stayed at 28 points.
DH woke me up this morning saying it was time to get to work with the cattle. I'm rebelliously drinking my coffee and sitting in front of the fireplace right now ;-) This is a hard and scary job - sorting cattle. Wish me luck. I will get lots of APs however.
Nancy - hope you enjoyed your DoR. Pool at the clubhouse sounds like great fun and good plan for eating.
(((Jan))) I'm so sorry about the insurance and your sweet puppers. It has been a hard week - I hope your family is supportive and loving and that you can be forgiving to yourself.
Jane - glad to see your Japan check in. You can do this! Enjoy good food in moderation.
EDESIA - so very nice to see you! Congrats to DH on the promotion!! The circadian code sounds interesting - and coincidentally a Dr. Oz article came in front of me (I think in the Sunday paper) about the same topic - having at least 12 hours of fasting per day. The hang up for me will be my morning cappuccino. I use 1/3 cup of milk to make myself a lovely, frothy two espresso shot cappuccino each morning. Makes me smile in bed just knowing that's how I start my day - lol. Plus, I love a good, hearty breakfast - I parent with a healthy, mostly hot breakfast most days of the week. And that is at 6:45am so the kids can get on the bus.... So I have a couple morning barriers, but dinner is typically around 6:30 - so 12 hours there. EDESIA - re meat... I buy a whole grassfed, organic lamb each year for $200 (yum!!). We raise our own chicken and organic, grassfed beef (sadly we do NOT have enough market - or I should say, I don't have enough time to market the beef we have and so our organic, grassfed beef is going into a conventional market this week :-( it is a waste of a premium, super healthy beef). I wish there was a pipeline to people like you who care about meat quality.... But I am way out on the prairie and can't deliver to the East Coast.
Lori - If I recall, your DH had a demanding work life as well. Has he changed jobs or retired? Your Sedona vacation sounds absolutely wonderful. I've given my DH notice that in about 16 months (started with a 20 month countdown) that I am going to spend all of my vacation days traveling (with or without him - I figure 20 months is enough notice for him to wrap his head around and take action to make the farm manageable in order to travel).
Hi to all who follow. Feeling guilty now about DH out in the cold and working alone with the cattle.
Kathy
