Do you eat when you're hungry or do you eat when it time to do so? Perhaps a combination of both?
My current plan is set to get me to eat every few hours. I'm not always hungry when I'm supposed to eat. For example, today for lunch, I'm just not hungry. I'm eating cottage cheese and carrots with hummus anyway because I'm supposed to, but I'm not going to get a full meal when I'm not hungry.
Do you eat lunch at lunchtime even if you're not hungry?

When/if hungry for breakfast and lunch, but by the clock for dinner since I cook for others too.
No I don't eat if not hungry.
Good question.

I think my hunger button is broken. Sounds funny but I am serious. I was with a group program once and the person "in charge" said we should never go longer than 5 hours before we eat...not before 4 hours. That has kinda stayed with me. I don't do it always but it is a good barometer when my own personal one is broken! Thanks for getting me thinking again. Marie

I eat meals at regular times to the extent I can. But if I don't I know I will soon be starving. I think it's a really personal thing.

I feel better when I eat at reasonably regular intervals. So, I do tend to eat 3 meals and 3 snacks a day as my plan requires even if I'm not particularly hungry when it's time to eat. If I don't stick to this formula, I find myself grazing all the time and eating more overall. I think about food less this way too. If I'm not that hungry I just eat less, but I still have something.

I tend to eat when I'm hungry. I eat breakfast regularly now on WW even if it's just a fruit or yogurt. But if I have a big lunch and really don't want supper I won't force myself. Or same with lunch.
My DH feels he MUST eat 3 meals a day. We can have a huge lunch around 2:00 and he will be asking around 6:00 what's for dinner. I can normally hold him off to about 7 but he must eat a dinner. I will even ask "are you hungry". and Sometimes he'll say no, but we only had lunch.
I try to go by how I feel. Sometimes this does lead to snacking, but that's when I try to have something healthy, or figure out if it's emotions or hunger Not foolproof, but I try.

I kind of go by when I'm hungry, but most often it is about 4 hours between breakfast and lunch before I get hungry. I eat dinner around 7:00. Sometimes I need a snack around 4:00 or 4:30 but not always. My breakfast is about 9:00 and lunch at l:00.

Definitely a grazer; I don't like to feel too full anymore, so a small snack when I am hungry works for me. It is definitely tricky when you need to eat with someone else, but DH and I don't eat our meals together on a daily basis. I spent my life *by the clock* and didn't have a clue if I was hungry or not. And because my meals are *mini*, I need them more often.

I have a time-range for my meals. Otherwise mealtimes can get away from me and all bets are off as to whether the food actually ever hits the plate before it's fork-to-mouth.
Bkfst: 6:30 to 8 AM except Saturday (WW meeting; bkfst at 8:30 AM)
Lunch: 11:30 AM to 2:30 PM
Dinner: 6 PM

I'm not sure if my hunger button is broken but I have been trying this week to wait for hunger signals before eating. For reference, I read through the "Intermittent Fasting" thread of a few days ago (started by Kitty) I am eating during the day but I'm starting much later in the morning. I don't find it hard to wait before eating but I also don't go all day because I know that doesn't work for me. So much of my eating habits were developed by the clock and I often eat when I'm not hungry. I'll let you know how this works out.

I am just as likely to not be hungry as I am to be hungry.
Having survived the 1975 "Liver" program, I was trained to eat 3 meals a day plus snacks. The rule then was lunch 3 to 4 hours after breakfast and dinner 4 to 6 hours after lunch. I guess I pretty much continue to live by that rule.
If I'm not hungry, then I eat a small meal. If I'm starving, then I eat a big one. But the goal as I recall it was to never get so hungry that you were desperate and would easily lose control, going for the junk food and justifying it with the excuse "...but I was STARVING."
Now, with Diabetes and insulin, if my blood sugar dips too low, you should see me eat—but NOT get in my way! The brain can create a frenzied eating binge because it needs sugar for fuel, and the craziness can go on long after the low blood sugar event has passed.

It depends. I've been doing a little intermittent fasting lately (5 days regular eating, 2 days lower calorie eating) and so I am paying more attention to the clock and wanting to stretch times between eating more so. I used to eat at the first faint feeling of hunger. Lately, I've been not eating just because I feel hungry. I assess the situation. Have I recently eaten? Sometimes I find that if I eat it actually makes me more hungry. So, if I ate an hour ago my hunger may be very transient. If I wait 10 minutes, it goes away. On the other hand, if it has been several hours since I ate then it is reasonable to eat.
I will put it this way. I don't usually eat if I'm not hungry at all (the exception might be if I was in a situation where I either could eat then or it would be hours before I could eat again). If I am hungry, I will usually eat if I'm truly hungry and the hunger has persisted and isn't just transient. If I don't really need food at that time, I may wait to see if the hungry is transient and passes.

Interesting discussion. I tend to eat small meals when I'm hungry. I'm focusing on protein and veggies and fruit.

Recently I'm hungry a lot. Mostly because of a medication I take that increases my hunger. It's a drag, but luckily I will likely have that medication lowered shortly. I do eat when I'm hungry, but I try to keep the "snacks" light. Like Danon Light & Fit fat free low sugar yogurt, or a non fat cafe latte with Splenda, or similar things. Otherwise I do end up eating 3 meals per day too. Breakfast and dinner are sit down specially prepared meals (because my hubby joins me for them), but lunch is sort of odds and ends.
When I had a full-time job I would sometimes get so into my job that I forgot to eat. And in the mornings I'd run so late that I didn't eat breakfast, but just bought a coffee or cappuccino on my way to work. I'd bring a banana to work and then not eat it. My husband would call it the "traveling banana". Overall I think that did me harm.

No. I don't eat by the clock. For me, eating when not hungry is why I gained weight. That is the main issue I have in the evenings. I am not hungry after dinner but I still will snack. What I have been successful is in telling myself if I want to snack when not hungry it has to be fruit. For example, the other night while I was reading I snacked on an organic apple that I cut up into thin slices and sprinkled cinnamon on.
If I do feel hungry before bed, I drink a small glass, maybe 3 oz, of Plain Kifir. It does the trick. Kifir is like drinkable yogurt. Though only get plain as the flavors tend to have a ton of sugar.
I am not always successful but when I do cut out mindless eating it works like a charm.
A good book to check out is Savor: Mindful Eating, Mindful Life by Thich Nhat Hanh
