I asked to get mine done when I was 5 years old. My twins are now 8 years old and have yet to ask for it. They watched a little girl about their age get it done one time and were a little traumatized by her screaming and crying.

...Not long ago I bought 14 carrot gold studs that would be comfortable to keep in all of the time, even when sleeping. The idea was good, but one day my pet parrot crushed the one ball with his strong beak (it was a hollow gold ball) and that was that. Â I don't know if it's appropriate, but this story made me laugh. I'm sorry if it wasn't meant to be funny.
DotRen, Thanks for your info about Claire's. Maybe I can check them out. The bumps in my lobes aren't bad. I can just feel them in there. It's a true story. I sort of did add it for the sake of a little humor. Living with a parrot is an experience.

One of my daughter's best friends has two parrots and when I call out to her to leave after a play date (they have a large property and the kids are always somewhere) the parrots keep calling her name. I am told that they call her name even when we are not there which I find really funny.

I went to Claires today and got them done with no issues at all. They had a pretty good selection of piercing studs in a variety of metals. I went with stainless steel because of my nickle sensitivity. No pain, quick and easy.

DotRen, this is encouraging. Now I just have to figure out if I want to be bothered with the whole thing again. LOL I might just want to for fun. I don't wear much jewelry so it might be an opportunity to add some sparkle to my image.

hallian, I don't wear jewelry much either, and I figure earrings (studs anyway) would make it easy for my DH and DS to get me presents lol. Honestly, it was like a 1/4 second pinch and it was over. I am cleaning it as instructed lol. I remember way back (40 years ago!) when I got them pierced, they said to spin them several times a day. Now they say not to do that except 2x a day right before you clean them because of the bacteria! How things change lol.

DotRen , That's funny about the cleaning. I remember that also. I was 22 when I got my ears pierced for the first time. By the time I was 27, I was over it. LOL But you're right about making it easier for your family to get you presents.

It's ironic: now that I am wearing earrings, I am having a hard time finding ones I like! I'm sticking with minimalist ones for now: dots, bars, simple diamond studs - nothing over 6mm - and simple small hoops. I think I'm liking the bars the best because they're small and you can sleep in them because they're low profile and don't stick up like most studs do.

I know this is an old thread, but I was going to suggest do NOT go to any place that uses the gun type thing to pierce your ears. ESPECIALLY if it's a multi-use gun! There is no way to fully clean it. They also can cause more damage to your ears. It's best to go to a tattoo place and have them done. They are seriously more clean and know what they are doing. Just my opinion.

My ears were double pierced back in the 80's. I always had issues with them, always sore, had knots in them and no matter how expensive the ear rings - I still had issues. I eventually just let them close up. Several years ago I started wearing my hair short again and since there are newer ear ring metals out, I retried. The girl did them right where she could see the old holes (just one in each ear this time). Within a week I was at the doctor's. The glands in my neck were all swollen and my ears all puffy. Took them out, antibiotics, never again!

Laura M, yikes! I react to nickel and lead, and sadly on places like amazon, where the jewelry can be made in other countries, it may say that it's nickel and lead free, but you definitely take your chances! neen, they did use a gun but the new system is that the studs are in a pre-sterilized cartridge and no one touches them. Even the gun is disposable. You can buy them on amazon with or without the gun, but I was too chicken to do it myself lol.

hallian, it was fast and painless. I think the memory was more painful than the piercing even the first time lol. Claire's is a chain junk jewelery store in malls, they did it using the "Studex System 75" piercing system which is very sterile and hard to mess up
