Today I am happy to still be alive. I went to work early this morning while it was snowing. The last forecast I had heard said the snow would turn to rain by 10 AM, as the temps would rise. Ha ha! Joke on me. The roads were dangerous going to work--very slippery--and it took about 3 times as long to get there. I arrived almost an hour after I usually do. Good session though! Very dedicated group.
As we were getting cleaned up, someone said they had changed the forecast, and we were going to get 6-8 inches. I crawled along with my emergency lights flashing all the way because of the crazies who were zooming past. I saw accidents on the way, and skidded myself 4 times. One time I was just lucky no one else was near me or we would have all been goners. Oh, and it turned to freezing rain, which meant I did not have a full windshield's view. I was afraid to stop to scrape it off because no one knew where the lanes were on the highway, and folks were skidding.
This is our first big snowstorm of the winter. Though it looks beautiful, it is treacherous out there, and I am home for the rest of the day.

Ruth good luck with your DGS’s game. Glad to hear there is beautiful weather somewhere in our country.
AOTD: Karen, there have been many changes in what is considered healthy/not healthy. Eggs, margarine, liver, etc. Anyone else remember when we were supposed to eat liver at least one day on WW because it was so “healthy?”
I’m falling asleep sitting up. Time to nap. I hope to BBL.

Okay. I'm posting this because if I do then I'll have committed myself even more. I am starting a new thread for 2017. Probably will start it the week on Dec 24 or so. Not that anyone will see it then, but just to get myself in place. The thread will be on goals/habits. I was part of a goals thread here when it abruptly ended a couple of weeks ago. In writing the goals for the day I felt like I was not anchored and have been working with the idea of habits and daily goals to get myself there. There are habits I want to make a regular part of my life and the goals will be to help get me successful with those habits. So ..... just letting you know in case anyone wants to work on their habits/goals in 2017.

QOTD: As we continue on this journey of life have you learned anything contradictory to what you always believed was right? Is there anything that my above revelation might cause you to look up? AOTD: There is a lot of contradictory information out there...so much so that it is mind boggling. Can we blame the internet? LOL The thing I have learned that is the most beneficial was from the book Eat Fat Get Thin by Mark Hyman that Bette turned me on to. I am now eating full fat healthy fats and skipping the fat-free items. I have to keep my portions smaller but I feel so much better just by this minor change in my diet.
Sandy, Congrats on the weight loss! You are doing fabulous!
Sharon, Glad Don is feeling better and even was up for some walking today! Glad you were able to find a small tree that makes you happy. Mike has been wanting to get a larger tree but our 6 ft slim tree is easy to put up and easy to decorate, so I am fine with it.
Karen, Sorry your TV is dying. If you do end up getting a new one get a Smart TV. They are worth the little extra money to me because I can get YouTube exercise videos for free. We also have Netflix and Amazon Prime.
Mike wants to walk so will finish this later.

Gail, So sorry you had to deal with that "white knuckle" driving! I used to hate it. Glad you are SAFE and home for the rest of the day! DGS's team lost 26 to 22. DGS made some great plays. I am so proud of him! I used to LOVE liver. I have not eaten it in several years. Do they even sell it anymore?
Karen, Love your idea for a goals/habits thread. I will look for it!

Good evening Ladies, What a day. I got up at 7am only to find out we didn't have any heat. My sister had been up since midnight and tried to turn the furnace up a notch but nothing was happening so she went downstairs to reset the furnace still nothing, so she went out to the garage to get some kindling and wood to start the wood stove. We had our 2 gr.nieces sleep over last night and they slept in my bedroom on a mattress. I called the oil company to tell them we didn't have any oil in the tank but they insisted we still had a quarter of a tank and they would send a service guy out, sure enough when he got here he said we were out of oil so had to wait for them to deliver oil and the guy came in to bleed the furnace and we finally got heat around 11:30 so almost 12 hrs with no heat and with the temp at 1 degrees this morning my sister was afraid the pipes in the dining room and my bedroom would freeze since these 2 rooms are additions and no foundation. All is god now though. Then the internet wasn't working so the girls couldn't play on their kindle. We ended playing cards. Their mom got a ride from work and picked them up at 3pm. It stop snowing about an hour ago, I did not attempt to go out as with my back being out for 2 weeks, I don't want to have a setback. I didn't even go to Mass this afternoon and not sure if I'll be going tomorrow as now they're talking about freezing rain and icy roads.
Gail...that is scary driving in this mess, glad you made it home OK. Karen...I think I need to go check that site as I really need to start making a goal for myself, my eating has been out of control.

Ruth....yes it was a long morning and glad the girls were here, we kept each other busy and we even played cards this afternoon.
I just happen to log into WW and I used the date I started going to the meetings and believe it or not I started 6 yrs. ago, the first year I did well, but then I stopped going to meetings due to my finances, and that's when I started gaining my weight back. I am not happy with myself and that is why I need to set a new goal and habits. This will be a tough week as my sister loves to back with Christmas a week from tomorrow, we are having our family get together on Friday, so after that I should be able to get back on track. Thank you all for this site as it's giving me hope that I can get back to my goals.

It has been about 17 degrees most of the day but temps are dropping. We had a glaze of ice last night, but DH said when he went to breakfast that the road crew had the roads in good condition. Has showed since about 10:30am and then DH went into town again for coffee time and stated the roads are now slick. They are saying 11 below zero tonight and that is without wind chill factors but strong winds are forecast I believe. To be in the 30's mid week. I am ready.
Was consulted today and DGD and her family with the DGGC will be sometime Christmas day. She is not dealing with rest of family, sure hope this all gets worked out sometime soon. Do not have to cook for them, although I will have a little something. Her family also will go to his parents and her mother's that day also. The rest of the family plus son's lady friends children will all be here on Monday the 26th. They say the workers get to observe Christmas the following day so all will have that day off. They all have other plans on Christmas day so that works for me.
Only my WW weigh in day is Tuesday, so either I eat nothing on Monday with the family or I just skip weigh in that week. I know I have about 9 days to strictly watch what I eat BUT that is hard for me to do. I am my own best saboteur. Oh well Christmas is only one day out of the year.
I have all 6 sweatshirt pillows finished. Now to work on the calendars and shadowboxes. Will have to do some stocking stuffer shopping this week.
Oh, Sharon I am so happy you got a little tree. I just love all the lights so hope you truly enjoy your tree. Sandy, HURRAH on the weight loss. I have wondered if you get our weather at your place a day or two later. Gail, glad you enjoyed the party. I have found most WW people that I have dealt with to be gracious. Sorry about those nasty roads. Glad you are safe. Geri, your sour cream cake with walnuts and cranberry swirl sound marvelous. Ruth and Sharon, my children keep me on my toes with the cabinets and refrig. as they will not eat or drink anything that has a past date on it. I try to tell them that when we were young there was no date on anything. But at our house we never had to worry about anything being outdates , nothing ever lasted that long with 11 kids in the house. Of course we milked cows and the chickens supplied the eggs. Karen good luck with all your house plans. TV' don't cost that much anymore, you could likely get one on special right now. Ann, you sound rather busy right now. So you love to ski, that sounds interesting but I don't believe it is for me, especially with my back problem, but then again maybe if the slopes were really small. Joanne, such bad luck on such a cold snowy night. Happy everything got worked out and all are warm again. Our son just called and asked if I needed anything from the grocery. My husband has already been to town twice today but told son to pick up a quart of skim milk.
All you ladies that live in the warm climate please send some warmth this way.

OMG Jane, Thanks for letting us know about Sharon. I usually play Words with Friends with her on the computer. In fact, just played with her yesterday. Will definitely keep her in my thoughts and prayers. My friend on another thread made Chicken Tikka Masala that was in last week's WW weekly. She said it is very good and easy to make. Here is the link if you would like to try it: www.weightwatchers.com/us/recipe/slow-cooker-chicken-tikka-masala-1/5626a63a3d92b3c10eb8da36

Good evening all!
Today I hibernated since we had some snow. I was very glad that I cancelled my doctor's appointment in Boston since the roads were not good!
Sharon, 'Teddie' makes a Peanut Butter that is natural, just peanuts, however, my holistic nutritionist recommends Almond Butter as peanuts harbor a lot of bacteria and mold, Since you have issues with dairy you might read up on peanuts.
On the note of people living longer, you might note that back in the day we ate more locally produced foods, rarely ate out, with limited processed foods. etc. Granted, people would die from ailments that could routinely be cured in this day and age, however, the Visiting Nurse was saying, that in 25 years, she had never seen so many younger people with diabetes, cancer, etc. She attributes it to fast foods, processed foods, eating out or a sedentary lifestyle. Ann, with you making everything from scratch, as do I, exceptions. once in a while, won't matter. Educating myself does make for a good wake up call as I read recently that the temperature reached for tortilla or potato chips builds carcinogens. That did it for me! I will experiment with oven baked potato chips if I ever get around to it or crisp corn tortillas in the oven to serve with salsa! Another was 'Carrageenan" that I just learned about. This thickens products, namely my 40 calorie fudgsicles, however this additive causes inflammation that leads to bleeding and ulcerations! How irresponsible that these additives are in our foods for the sole purpose of a longer shelf life to extend profits!
Gosh, I'm on a rant here but, one more thing. I think the adage 'all things in moderation' might have worked in our younger days. Our bodies produced enzymes when we were younger that we no longer do and so we need to replenish these to stay healthy. If we don't, to survive our system will draw from our skin, bones, etc. causing premature aging and disease. Lots of Fruits, vegetables, supplements will provide what our bodies need, make sure that your calories are made up of healthy nutritious foods! (Please).
Karen, I had noted that drinking liquids with a meal interrupts the digestive system. For some reason, I always drink after dining anyway, unless it's a glass of wine prior to.
Ann, I forget your itinerary. I recall that you will be in NJ for Christmas? Next you will be with the Texas kids? Where will you be skiing? I'm sure it will all be great fun!
Tomorrow will be 56 degrees, I really should do errands. I'm telling myself!
AOTD: I guess I would say, let new ideas in, after all people used to put butter on a burn! People are issued blood pressure meds and never told to limit sodium or diabetics/sugar. Most medical issues could be cured with dietary changes. Food is medicine!!
Have a great night!
