Hi Friends, I am writing tonight because we leave for our trip and I don't stay plugged while away. I want to thank you all for my comments about my friend.
Tammy thanks so much for your thoughtful response. I need to be clear....I "thought" I didn't eat sugar for 2.5 years but I had fruit and milk everyday!!! So when I talk about the sugar monkey it has nothing to do with fruit or milk or the other things you mentioned. I would hate to have to face that but you sure did and look at you now on the other side.
Will be back in 2 weeks and know you will all stay strong! I usually do better when traveling with my food plan so here's to two healthy weeks. Marie

mariel, Marie, Most people should not be concerned about the sugar in fruit. Fruit also has lots of fiber. Now, juice is different - not much fiber. Milk has about the same amount of sugar as orange juice. However, I still think that milk can be healthy if you don't overdo it. I had a medical condition that had become severe. During that time, sometimes our work cafeteria would say "no sugar in this", but it had honey. Oh my, I would end up not feeling well. Fortunately, it only took a few months to get me back to health and I could start eating more normally again. But yes, it did make me really aware of sugar. And although I am better, I still need to eat more like a diabetic.

If I fall off the wagon, which can happen after attending a party or eating a restaurant meal, I try to have an OP meal the very next time I eat. I don't want to continue veering off track. I will fix a breakfast with protein and good carbs that will hold me a long time. I also try to drink more water to hopefully flush out the sodium. The important thing is for me to face it and move back to my healthy eating mode. Don't let it continue.

Do another Beck review. These days it seems like there's always one going on somewhere, i.e. we're on Day 17 of a review on the "other" board. Or, I just pick up the pink book and review relevant sections and my own notebooks.

I agree with Linda that facing it and getting right back to it is best BUT, I confess that its taken me quite a few mishaps to learn that lesson. Its now a more conditioned response, and with less drama. I also do the water flush and beef up my protein intake.

I guess I just have to have a good "talking to" to myself. Ultimately, for me, it's all about will power and eating a healthy, within-my-points diet. If I get off plan I need to get right back on and not dwell on my temporary failure. This is all easier said than actually doneπ.

I do the same thing as Linda and Pam. It is good to have a lot of OP meals to go back to immediately after falling off plan. I met with a nutritionist yesterday and she was surprised my weight was plateaued. She suggested I add more protein to bring my calories to 1400-1450 because she could tell I had losses on days following those when I had more protein. The 3 ounce portions aren't enough for me. Drinking lots of water helps me too.

I get back "on plan" when I finally admit to myself that I've had portion creep. There is the mental struggle first of getting myself to face it. I do a lot of looking for other reasons. I look over what I've been eating and think of small ways I can cut back. Then there is more talking to myself that yes I can get by with less and yes I can manage the hunger. If I can't rein it in still then I go back to tracking reminding myself that if I do this honestly my weight will respond.

Like others, I try to right myself by going OP for the next meal I have. I have not tried water flushing...doordie, what's that, just drinking a ton of water? Does it do anything? Anyway, I think for me the most important thing is to get back OP ASAP, and not let one slip up turn into a full day, week, month, etc.

Hello everyone
Sorry it's been so long. Kinda crazy at our house. Slipped off program eating larger portions but now back in control.
My strategy is to track weigh and measure everything. Seems that when I venture off program its portions that are an issue and not so much poor choices.
Remodling is is going well. Guest bathroom shower/tub surround tile is almost complete. They will finish today and grout on Monday. The floor goes in on Tuesday.
Marie - wishing you a great trip. Where are you going?

decolady Hi, glad the remodeling is coming along. Did you accept the original tile (some had orange in them) or did you pick something different? The picture looks really nice. I know you're excited to be finishing this up!

I swear it gets the damage out of my system - especially if I ate a big salt or sugar bomb. I double my intake for one, sometimes two days. You got it right though Surf - not letting it go on for days is critical.

Unless we are eating out I weigh, measure and track everything. If we are eating out I still track but don't measure or weigh anything.I try to get back on track on the next meal and if I have had a lot of sodium I also drink more water.
