A promtional calendar I have at work shows that December 13 is national Cocoa day & Sunday December 16 is Boston Tea party anniversary. While it doesn't specify that it means "hot cocoa" day, that's where my line of thought went...especially when I saw the mention of tea as well.
Do you enjoy hot beverages? What are your hot beverage favorites or ideas? Hints on how to make them special? Brands or recipes for point friendly (or also indulgances?)

*Used to buy Cadbury's or Swiss Miss packaged hot cocoa *Could add Baileys if there were points to do so *Have seen it made just with cocoa and water with sweetener *Would probably make my own at home rather than used packaged these days.

I keep trying to learn to like tea, because some varieties are supposed to be good for you, but I just don't seem to care for it. I like the Land 'O Lakes brand hot chocolate packets, but they are in the indulgence category - quite sugary! As I thought about this, I recalled making hot lemonade in the past. I'm pretty sure I probably put in sugar, but made from scratch, I could control the sugar if I made that.
Does anyone remember a ad campaign from Dr. Pepper - probably in the '70s - suggesting the idea of serving Dr. Pepper heated/warmed up? I remember trying it - and thinking it was very odd!

I used to like hot lemonade, though I haven't had it in years, yes, there was sugar involved. I also used to make my own hot coco mix, using dried milk (which I also haven't bought in years), sweetner, & coco. I can take hot tea or leave it, sometimes, when I feel bad, it is soothing. Don't remember ever drinking hot Dr. Pepper.

My favorite is indulging in a latte from Starbucks, which I don't get very often as the Starbucks is in the hospital cafe in my closest town. So I get one only if I have an appointment at the clinic connected to the hospital. Which is about once a month or every 6 weeks. Other than that it is coffee or tea at home, sometimes hot chocolate. Occasionally I'll add things to my coffee like creamer or cream and a shot of flavored syrup.

I usually buy swiss miss (dark) hot chocolate mix. But, I probably have it once a month or less. Friends and I are going to look at Christmas tree lights on Saturday night and talked about taking hot chocolate along.
I am a big tea drinker. Judy, if you live near a Trader Joe's, next fall try their Autumn harvest tea. It is a really good herbal tea.
I love Dr Pepper, but I don't remember ever drinking it warm.
I just saw this new item at Trader Joe's- Almond Nog. I calculated it to be 3 points for a serving. I think I will swing by there and try it this week. About the only way I like coffee is as an eggnog latte. This might work.
Trader Joe's Almond Nog:
California almonds provide a slightly nutty flavor and a rich creaminess that forms the base of this non-dairy Almond Nog. Like its classic counterpart (p. 2), it’s naturally flavored with nutmeg and ginger, heralds of the holiday season. But its similarities are just as important as its differences – unlike other nogs out in the marketplace, our version is made without corn syrup. Or soy. Or gluten. And since there’s no dairy or eggs, you won’t find the associated cholesterol or saturated fat. Did we mention it’s kosher certified? And vegan, too? Well, now we did! Whew! Use this top-notch Nog in place of the liquid called for in pancakes or a French toast casserole. Froth it up and pair with hot coffee or black tea. Or sip it solo, whilst caroling, wrapping presents, throwing snowballs, or enjoying any other classic wintry pursuits your heart desires. We’re selling each 32 ounce carton of Trader Joe’s Almond Nog for $2.99; you’ll find it near the other drinkable nogs in our refrigerator. Ingredients and Nutrition Facts INGREDIENTS: ALMOND BASE (WATER, ALMONDS), CANE SUGAR, CONTAINS 2% OR LESS OF CALCIUM CARBONATE, VITAMIN E ACETATE, ZINC GLUCONATE, VITAMIN A PALMITATE, VITAMIN B12, VITAMIN D2, NATURAL FLAVORS, PUMPKIN CONCENTRATE (FOR COLOR), XANTHAN GUM, SEA SALT, GELLAN GUM, SUNFLOWER LECITHIN. I’m a tea drinker from way back. Right now my favorite is Peach Tranquility. I am well supplied with a wide variety of tea. Usually have Joy tea in December and January. I’m not sure if they have it this year at Starbucks. I’ll have to check it out.
