We went to see "On the Basis of Sex," the new movie out about Ruth Bader Ginsburg this afternoon. I definitely recommend it. There were a lot of things that we've almost (but not quite) forgotten that the movie reminds us about. For example, remember when women couldn't get credit cards in their own names? When you couldn't take out a loan? When it was considered perfectly ok for a job to advertise that only men need apply? I even remember being told by a health insurance company in the early 70s that they wouldn't insure me because I had a pre-existing condition. I was a woman, and therefore I might get pregnant. Please RBG, hang in there until we get a Democrat back into the White House. My DGD is depending on you. There's still much more that needs to be accomplished, and if the JA or even another Republican gets to put another justice on the bench how far into the future will it be before we get a chance to right so many injustices.

nashville11, I want to see the RBG movie. Did you see the documentary done on her recently? It was wonderful. I really didn't know a lot about her earlier life before that. I know that she comes to Santa Fe every year during the opera season, and know a few people who have seen her when she's been here. One person told me the place to find her is in the ladies' room at the opera.

luanne, it would definitely be worth hanging out in the ladies room just to have an opportunity to meet her. LOL! I really do admire her a great deal. I haven't seen the documentary, but I plan to watch it.

I haven't seen the documentary, but I plan to watch it. If you can find the documentary "RBG" in a theater, see it there. One of the television channels showed it awhile ago. I recorded it, and watched it. They cut parts out, and OH! the commercials! The shortened version doesn't diminish her accomplishments, and maybe if I hadn't seen the complete version earlier I wouldn't have cared.

There's a lot in the news this morning, but I'm not sure what it all means. That the FBI opened an investigation into the JA possibly working for Russia against the US is staggering in that apparently they, like many people in the country, seriously suspected his actions were beyond just strange. Still, does it have any real meaning? I will be so glad when that Mueller report comes out. I hope it is thorough and lays to rest all the questions that have been swirling around this administration since the very beginning. Of course, there will always be conspiracy theories floating around somewhere, but I hope the facts, well documented, will be laid out for all to see and not classified so that we never really know. If he's guilty, I hope he and all around him who have enabled him pay the price. If he's innocent, then I want to know that too. Either way, he has been a disaster for our country.

Julian Castro just announced he is running for president. I don't know enough about him yet, but sure liked what he was saying in his announcement speech. I was watching on MSNBC, and they had a couple of commentators talk a bit after the announcement. Two of them both said they liked what he said, he speaks well, but they're not sure he will have what it takes to win the Democratic nomination and defeat Trump. The third commentator said her basic criteria for someone is can they beat Trump. I think what I'd like to see is one of the more seasoned candidates running for president, like Biden or maybe even Elizabeth Warren, paired with one of the younger up and commers like Kamala Harris, Beto O'Rourke or Julian Castro. Of course there is a long time between now and the 2020 election (unfortunately).

nashville11, I want to see that movie -hopefully tomorrow. My mom told me that, when she was pregnant with my older (half) brother, her husband was an abusive alcoholic and she had to get a waiver of some sort from HER parents that they would be "responsible" for her so she could get a divorce! She was 22 and had a job for Pete's sake, but a pregnant woman couldn't just get divorced back in the '60's.

We really have come a long way and yet we still have a long way to go. I know there are forces out there that would love to go back to the bad old days.
I had a friend that was one of the first telephone repair women. Her first job she knocked on the subscribers door and told the woman she was there to fix the phone. The women said she'd rather have a man do the job. My friend told the woman she could refuse the service, but that doesn't mean the next repair person they sent would be a man and it would be a few more days before somebody else could get to her home. She would be on the bottom of the list. Or, she could use a neighbors phone and make a complaint to my friends boss but he would tell her the same thing.
A few more days? Another girl? Fine. Come in. Lol.

You know, as much as his "fan boy base" was chanting "lock her up" over HC, they seem awfully accepting that DT may have (probably, most likely did)broke the law over several things from collusion to lying to the special council, etc. So the whole "well it's only bad if someone else does it" is pretty pathetic.

It is amazing the way his base and the Republicans in Congress are so overtly hypocritical and accepting of absolutely everything about him. And this revelation that the FBI began an investigation about him actually working for Russia against the US. That blows my mind! Of course, they didn't complete the investigation before handing it off to Mueller, and we don't know if that was actually true or not. So I'm waiting until we hear the results of the investigation, but how does that not at least make these people pause for a moment in their adulation? That can't be an investigation that was undertaken lightly. They must have thought there was some very compelling reasons to do that. IF, and I admit it is a very big IF, that is found to be true, would that not be treason? I know there are technical legal issues that must be met for anything to be considered treason, but if you were working for a foreign government in opposition to the US it would sure sound like treason to me. BUT, we don't know that he did that so we'll have to wait to find out what Mueller has to say. If Mueller's investigation proved that to be true, would that be enough for the Republican Senate to convict him or would they still just turn a blind eye? Would his followers fall away? I think his base would stick. Unless he came right out and admitted it for all to hear, I don't think his base would ever believe it no matter what evidence there was. Even if he admitted it I think most of them would stick by him. After all he's already told us he could shoot someone on 5th Ave, and they'd still be behind him all the way. And for once, that's about the only true thing he's ever told us.

It was amazing watching all the GOP pundits on political shows today, brush off the fact that JA has no official records of his private meetings with Putin or the fact the FBI was/is investigating Ja for being a Russian agent. But by golly, they just can't let go of Hilary. I mean, its been 2 years, she was cleared off all allegations the GOP threw at her. But she deleted emails which were Unclassified on a private secure server & she is worse in their opinion than JA who uses an insecure phone, has no record of his meetings with his boss/Putin, even takes the notes from the interrupter, has multiple people in his administration who have been caught lying about Russia, a personal lawyer who implicates JA in many of the decisions JA has denied, and on and on and on....If it wasn't so darn serious, it would almost be funny. But funny it is not!!! The GOP congressmen who enable JA & sit by & do nothing, say nothing are just as guilty as JA. Treasonous everyone of them...

If the JA is not under Putin's control, he surely must be the most stupid person in the world. He has conducted himself so totally outrageously in every single aspect of dealing with Russia and Putin. Not allowing a record of their conversations?!! Confiscating interpreter notes. I mean come on! Anyone would know that is bad policy even if it were done completely innocently. So at worst he is a Russian asset and pawn of Putin, and at best he's a total idiot. Neither thought gives me any comfort.
I keep thinking that this whole mess is like a big rubber band. It keeps stretching and stretching to encompass more and more but sooner or later it's going to break, and I'm afraid that when it does it's really going to hurt not just the JA, his family, administration, and Republicans but it's going to severely hurt us all. Can what he's broken ever be fixed? The founding fathers could not have possibly ever envisioned anyone like this JA in the presidency. Whether Putin is controlling him or not, we are being destroyed from within and the GOP is cheering, clapping, and eating popcorn on the sidelines while the rest of us are being thrown to the lions.
