Sue - enjoy the birthday celebration and dinner! I really haven’t been following baseball lately . I suppose the Braves are doing ok. My kids go to games occasionally- my son in Calif. is N avid fan.
We went to the doctor today . DH is keeping his monitor until the 29th. He gave him a long acting anti angina drug that he will take twice per day. It acts through the calcium channels of the heart- different than a nitrate- so he can still take his nitroglycerin if he needs it. He will go on the 29th to have a carotid ultrasound too. Then we return on the 29th of June to follow up on the ultrasound and the monitor. He was quite concerned at his symptoms and said that if the new medication does not control them, He will probably recommend a cath.
No plans for the weekend . I decided not to do the neighbor gathering until DH is feeling better. He had a bad day today.
Up to 95 degrees here today!

My surgery is June 24th.
We’re in a heat wave. It’s really disappointing that it hit so early because my hydrangeas are hitting their peak. I have a volunteer cucumber plant from last year and got a bell pepper plant. Need to find some tomato plants.

So, JoAnne, what is a cath? I’m sorry to hear your DH is not doing so well—heart issues are scary! Does he feel better using the Bipap machine?BF’s DH—the one who predicted my hair would look terrible and who lost weight after we were in Puerto Rico and then after two years quit exercising again and put more weight back on—has to take another sleep test—he’s the one who turned in his CPAP after three weeks and refused to use it. His lung dr made him have an O2 monitor on all night and found him to be very low in O2==BF DH said he would not do CPAP no matter what—dr told him then he will either have heart issues or blood clots—that caught his attention since he’s already had several leg blood clots—the dangerous deep thrombosis ones. In fact he’s on that expensive blood thinner for them. So he’s going to take it and it will be interesting to see what he does. He’s a very stubborn man. I’ve tried to tell him the risks of sleep apnea but he believes he doesn’t have it. He thinks because he falls asleep easily alll. The time in chairs and cars that he sleeps just fine—doesn’t get it that that is a true sign of sleep apnea cause you’re tired all the time!
Interesting that if gel is so bad that we still pay big bucks for it—I miss having my nails look pretty like other people’s nails, but my look was totally fake as my nails underneath all the gel were terrible—they are splitting like crazy but he has me putting a layer of Hard as Nails on every day and then take it off on the 5-6th day and start over—it keeps them from breaking every two minutes at least.
DGS18 graduated last night—high honors category. If he had gone to school all the time he probably would have been a valedictorian—still I’m glad he didn’t let his school work go to pot—yeah, that’s a pun! DH and I worked hard not to cry when we saw him but we hugged and hugged and he seemed to be happy we were there. After ward we all went for sushi (I had Chilean sea bass and seaweed salad). SOBXSIL claimed he was there but we think he left before it was over and he never even saw his son personally. Thank goodness with thousands there we did not have to run into him. Then he started texting DH like crazy—sounded as tho he was slobbery drunk possible—one of the texts said “We did it—we got him through high school”—really, he did almost nothing to get him through any school—everytime he breaks up with a gf he starts texting DD and telling her he loves her—he’s so manipulative and awful. She doesn’t answer these but it’s disturbing. He told his parents not to come to graduation so they didn’t. Didn’t call or anything.
So I am doing steak and smashed baked potatoes tomorrow and asparagus—have to make some sort of salad. Hoping DGS will stay and play a game—DH went out and got some 1$ bills to play the game we did at Christmas which DGS didn’t do since he didn’t come. It’s a lot of fun and someone goes home richer!
I got to see Jordan’s yearbook that I bought for him—OMG, he didn’t tell me that he was elected prom king by the classes! I went to part of UNLV orientation with him yesterday and he Lund out he has to register for all different classes—turned out he had credit for all the ones he signed up for—he will start out as a second semester sophomore next fall! DH and he are out looking for a used car today. Trying to stay under 6000 so it will be hard!
Holly, I don’t know where our cold snap will head—maybe too far north for you to benefit? We just are not getting out of the cool nice temps—which is great!
Did cardio fusion class at 8:15 today—didn’t even know they had that on Saturday so from now on I will probably take it—could go do clay class straight from the gym. It’s the same one I do on Thursday and it’s a good class.
Going to a clay friends’ house for an art show and pot luck—she is a painter but also doing pottery—I hope to get to buy one of her paintings—no idea how much she will make it but I want it badly for my living room.

Happy Memorial Day, Everyone!
Cloudy and chilly here again today with possible rain shower—unbelievable! Hoping that is not the case tomorrow or I will have 35 kids INSIDE for dinner and party—it’s not windy today so that’s a good sign!
Dinner last night was just right—steak turned out perfect and I did sesame crusted ahi tuna also with a great dipping sauce and some Asian slaw—even DGS’s ate tuna with their steaks—made large dinner rolls and of course the apple pie—which I put Zak 2019 UNR on the top with my air slits—DGS18 was like his old self—curious, participating in conversation and totally engaged—we played the game four times as DH kept winning and we wanted someone else to take the money home ($50). On the fourth game we finally had another winner—DD. When everyone left DGD18 gave me a hug and unprompted by anyone told me he loved me—-highlight of the evening for me—when I told DD about it this morning she started to cry—-this cold spell has been hard on everyone!
Today my friend who started clay class with me is coming over to finish her one fired piece—rubbing it down with India ink—then she is taking me to lunch. When I come back I must get outside and spruce up the flower beds and weed the garden and fertilize my tomatoes again. No gym today because of holiday.
Hope everyone has a nice day—no one here will be doing picnics like usual! DH was remarking about how many grad parties probably had to be changed up because of our very different weather for this time of year. When the heat comes we are going to be so affected because we are used to such cool weather this spring!

That is so strange. I will gladly give you your hot weather back. Not ready for July weather. Great news about your DGS!
I took a day off today and just puttered around. Went ahead and caught up on schoolwork.

Joan - I hope someone can convince your friend to use the c-pap . Most people don’t realize the devastating effects of sleep apnea. Getting and using the bipapis making DH so much more alert during the day. The “cath” is heart catherization where they look at the patency of all the cardiac arteries and place stents if they are needed. Tomorrow is the day he goes to have the carotid ultrasound
Holly- it has been so hot here . 94 degrees today . I woke upon at 5 am. Today so got out and worked in the yard til 8:30 a.m. Was glad I did since it was so hot the rest of the day. Because it was cool so early, I got a lot done. No rain in site til the end of next week.
Sue - how did the birthday dinner go?
HVe. E trying to go to bed earlier lately but obviously did not make it tonight. Will sign off now and try to get some zzzzz’s!!

Wow JoAnne, 90’s in humidity is so hot! We are still lovely cool—ordinarily by now we would be having about 95-105. If we do not get warm soon, it will get so hot we will all collapse when it does happen!
Jordan’s grad party was just so fun last night — had 30 kids total but 23 here the whole time till 10. They loved the bounce house—they said they hadn’t been in one since little kids—here they had it all to themselves as teens—they also hooked up a Nintendo switch and played video games—they played the cornhole beanbag game, played catch phrase as well—then after dessert they started doing karaoke to YouTube . They ate lots of Korean Barbecue—about 2/3 had been here in Sept for the birthday party so we recognized some of them. I love these kids—they give me such hope for the future!
Today we found a car for Jordan and we bought it and got it on our insurance—he will pay us all but the tax which he’ll gradually repay when he can. It’s a KIA Forte 2010 and looks nice—6000$. He will get to keep it at his place when he gets his license in June. Now we will have to drive this a lot so he is ready by the 13th. Tomorrow is graduation at 9 and then we are going out to lunch at an Asian Buffet with the brothers and Jordan’s aunt and uncle and apparently Jordan’s mom will be there for grad as well. I’ve not seen her since 3 years ago when I had her sign the papers so Justin could have custody—she obviously loves these kids but she has gambling issues—but I know she is proud of them.
JoAnne, I hope that the carotid check turns out ok tomorrow. You were up late tonight.

Graduation is done—we had lunch with Jordan, brothers and relatives that live in town—had not seen them in three years—they are lovely people. His mom came—she is interesting—wants to feel like a mom to the boys but they are so obviously not comfortable with her and cannot communicate—she is pretty, about DD’s age, but she has some serious problems—gambling for sure is one. But the aunt and uncle and their uncle on the dad’s side are very nice people—we really enjoyed talking with them—hearing the uncles escape story from Laos when he was 10 with his family was harrowing—8 kids floating down the river to Thailand to escape—that’s how Jordan’s dad escaped with his family as well. I cannot imagine. The uncle told us the memories are still very sharp and his mother is still alive (in Hawaii) and remembers it well. It was she who made the kids leave—he said she knew they would be shot if they didn’t go.
So it’s been a very quiet afternoon—DH napped and I watched some tv—not my usual—sort of anticlimactic after all the activities we’ve been doing!

Hi!
Weeks are flying by, I can't believe the year is half over already!
Joan, congrats to DGS18 on graduation. It sounds like he's really intelligent, hopefully the "cold spell" with him has ended for good. Jordan's party seems like a huge success, you did a great job with it! Wow, what a whirlwind of graduation activities!
Jojo, birthday dinner was good, byob Italian place. Weather was nice and we ate outside. How did DH's utlrasound turn out?
Holly, are you back on the grind now?
Memorial Day was low key for us, I volunteered Tues and Thurs and visited my parents Friday. Just ongoing issues with the people coming in to help my mom once a week, the second person just quit so now we are trying to find someone else.
Weather so far here has been mostly sunny but then we keep getting bursts of rain. Not too hot/humid yet, which is good thing!

Sue, were you celebrating your birthday—isn’t it coming up next week? Or was it SO’s—I must have overlooked that. I’m sorry to hear your mom is having trouble holding on to caregiving helpers. It’s so hard and such a unique skill that requires compassion for the elderly!
My former teacher/clay intro friend ‘s husband died last weekend—he was 87 and she only 64–he had congestive heart failure and after a fall went downhill in just two weeks—one in hospital and one at home on hospice care. She said she feels such relief—the past three years have been really hard—she said she grieved the loss of her relationship throughout that time.
Meanwhile WWBF’s DH has rallied and it’s due to physical therapy which no one else had suggested before—she always felt if he only moved more he would be doing better.
We were married 37 years yesterday—and we were 37 when that happened so half-life anniversary! DH actually went out and bought me a card but he read it wrong—it was a card for a wife to give a husband! There were three guys getting anniversary cards near him—we laughed so hard—I’m sure they thought he was gay and married! Life at 74 is interesting!! I’m going to keep it and give it to him next year since he didn’t sign it cause he was so embarrassed yet he had to share cause it was funny!
Had dinner out at a new privately owned restauant—the chef has another downtown which we’ve gone to once. Food was excellent but I ended up eating a bit of cheese—burata and ricotta—I had a beet salad and caprese salad both of which I split with BF—was really beautifully presented and very good.
Haircut day today—yay!
We have finally hit 100º but it’s dry so other than getting in the car is really not uncomfortable until it’s over 105.
Heading to gym for my longest session—3 classes in a row!

OMG, I slept in till almost 9 am—totally missed my early gym class I had intended to go to—last night we went to Boogie Night in the park and BF and I danced a ton—went to bed and literally passed out tired—and Tanzi did not do the early morning wake up call as usual so I had some really good sleep!
No plans for today—not taking clay class as they are making another flask—no need for flasks around here and I know how to make one—so went in yesterday and put together another Tree tea light only larger for DD’s new office—will carve the trees out of the bottom cylyinder today as it needed to firm up a bit before I could do that. Hoping to get DH to see Rocketman today but now DD has a leak in her wall—and to make matters worse—we have a leak in the yard somewhere—I have a cap on my autopay for water and it didn’t pay—$432–up from about a hundred! So he may have to work all day to discover our problem—will not make for a happy day around here as he hates that kind of issue!
Hope everyone is doing well.

Missing a post, oh well - seems to happen a lot.
So much has happened. I have had shingles- ugh- not too bad though since I had the original shingles vaccine. DH went and signed us up for the new vaccine on the waiting list. The bad part is that it is on my face and neck. I hope it doesn’t scar. I think I had it long before I realized what it was. I thought my face was “breaking out “ and wondered why then when they began to crust I imagined impetigo. But when the neck got swollen and watery I was thinking I had cellulitis! Dumb me! I went to the urgent care . I have seen the doc there before with my asthma. He knows I am a nurse and NP and just looked at me and said “ now Jo Anne- a rash on one side of your body?” I immediately said that shingles crossed my mind but I just discounted it for some reason. He did a Check my white count . If it was a cellulitis the white count would be elevated. It was not. So he gave me prednisone, Valtrex , and pain med. My neck was very tender and painful to touch but at least I don’t have to wear clothes over it; so I didn’t get the pain med. the prednisone helped more than anything.
Meanwhile DS and wife were coming home from Braves game and got hit broadside on DDIL’s side of car. It took the jaws of life to get her out of the car. She went to the hospital in ambulance. Had a bad concussion and ruptured eardrum and was out of work all week. Went back to ER Thurs. for vertigo. Went to MD yesterday and was given steroids for the concussion and I still. To have another MRI next Thursday. Still is not to drive. She My niece was to have a bone spur removed from shoulder last week and turned out to have a torn rotator cuff repair too. They think the bone spur tore the rotator cuff! She is in a great deal of pain.
😀on a cheerier note , I started exercising last week. Combination Pilates, cardio, and yoga. I can’t do it all yet and am quite sore right now but it is a beginning. Today was the third day I have done it. Feel good about myself that I finally started.

Hey all,
I am halfway through my first 5 week summer class, and am also teaching the library class. It goes for 8 weeks. In the grad class I’m learning about the history of writing and the methods used — printing press, handwriting, computer, etc. It’s interesting, but I’m looking forward to my next 5 week class on contemporary trends in literature. We’re also working on a lot of projects in the library to get things ready for the fall.
Sounds like a lot happening. Wow, Jo Anne, I hope things calm down soon for you. I wonder if she had some inner ear damage. Vertigo is the worst.
We just made it through a long dry, hot spell and now it’s supposed to rain for the next several days.
Sue, it is tough finding decent help.

Holly- raining here too and supposed to continue.
Is this school you are doing towards a degree ? I am so glad to be no longer in school ( of course for a long time!) I have always loved learning just don’t like to have to account for it - like testing!
Fear The Walking Dead is back on for another season.

Oh no, JoAnne—shingles! Yikes—The original shot must have helped some because friends I know who have had them could not have started to exercise—and they were so in pain right before the outbreak that some were in ER already for the pain! That really sucks tho even if not as bad as some! Now you have me thinking we need to redo the shot—we got ours at 60 so that is already almost 15 years ago! I think I’ll try to do that this week. I think I can get it at the drug store—when we got the first one we had to go to the county health center because even the drs. Didn’t keep it at their offices. That is one disorder I really do not want. I hope you get over them faster as well!
How frightening about your DIL’s accident—concussions are so darn awful—is she home and doing okay yet?
I did my usual early gym classes today—going to run to the studio with a piece I glazed and see if they have fired anything of mine yet. Hoping to get another piece of bisqueware back to glaze and get fired before they close down for the 4th week—they are doing a special week in WY for a pottery festival there at a U—I would liked to have gone but we will be in Sac and SF during that week.
Friday we did a concert in the park thing—all disco music from the 70’s and 80’s—BF and I danced enough to work up a sweat so that was fun. Saturday I worked on my carving on my clay piece literally all day here.
Sunday we took Jordan out driving—went to DMV and they had cones set up for practice so he parallel parked about 10 times and is getting quite skilled at it with his car. He takes the test on Thursday. I’m feeling like a parent who won’t be needed much anymore!
It’s cloudy again and we’ve had gorgeous weather BUT the temp is supposed to climb to 103 tomorrow—yikes that will feel so unusual! Ordinarily we’d have had lots of those days by now.
DS from SLC is on a month long bike ride with his surgeon friend Teh—they are doing thhe Great Divide Ride—following the cont. divide south from Banff/Lk Louise in BC Canada to just above Mexico in New Mexico. Right now they are along the edge of Glacier Nat Park—it has been pretty grueling so far I think with rain and snow and cold. They are crazy. I worry about grizzlies. And accidents.
Good luck with all your summer work, Holly—I admire your energy to attack another degree!
Sidney attacked Tanzi again—I think DH realizes we must find him a good home—this is no longer fair. Tanzi is living in fear in her own house!
