Took Jordan to UNLV financial aid dept today at 9 to turn in his selective service letter. this gave me a chance to ask lots of questions—the young man there was so helpful—he showed us the projected budget they use to determine what it takes for a kid to go to school and live for a semester—it is what they use to determine aid, etc. We needed that. Then found out he has $5500 a year scholarships from the school, $80/credit scholarships from the state for high grades—that will hold for entire BA/BS. He will be receiving a Pell Grant and it looks like for full amount—$6000, so with his working and making about 800/month he will have about $3500 for personal expenses—plus he has saved $2000—We are looking for a good used car that he can afford, we will pay the difference from what he has available to pay and then not ask for payments until he is out. Since his ortho work is almost done, it will not change our budget really because I spend $250 a month on that. So we will actually spend a little less. Tonight is his awards night and I cannot go—am so bummed—but DH will go and represent us and take him and take pictures.
JoAnne, what are you hearing about DH?
Holly, what do they charge per credit at your school UNLV is 300 W credit. There is no tuition on top of that tho.
I have to get busy and plan the grad party for Jordan on the 28th—really would like to rent a photo booth service—those are so fun. Also have to figure out some easy food—thinking I should just order something since it is so much work. Jordan has invited about 30 kids just like the birthday group I think. Hope they all come—they were really neat kids.

Hi all,
It’s that period at the end of the semester when pretty much everything is done, but I am not quite sure what to do with myself without all the stuff to do. It usually takes about a week or so to get into summer mode.
Joan, looks like it is about $450 per credit hour. It is a private university. That is awesome that he was able to get funding.
Sue, oh no! Glad that got resolved pretty quickly. Are all of your nephews out of high school now? No vacations this summer, but will be out for two weeks after my surgery in June.
Jo Anne, I hope the new CPAP is helping. The weather is looking great for the next week or so. It feels like we actually had a spring for once.

Holly, what is your surgery date? When I had bunion surgery I rented a scooter wheel chair so I could go back to work sooner—the kids at school loved it—keep it elevated a lot in the beginning.
Last night Jordan received a placque for being the highest math student at CSN—including the community college kids there—he was in Calc III with only college kids and still got this award and they said it was true for both years he was at the HS magnet school on the college campus. He got high honors as well—so glad DH could take him and be there to get pictures—he hates taking pictures of himself but allowed several as I think he realized this was important to all of us. Friday the seniors go to Disneyland and have to meet the bus at 4 am—ugh—DH volunteered to pick him and several friends up and take them to the M casino to meet it (that is way far out so DH will probably have to get up at 3–I may have to drive as well because there may be as many as 8 to pick up). Anyway it made me feel good that DH had this time with him—he is very proud of Jordan but I sort of dominate his time with all the dental appts and what not so we end up spending tons of time together.
It’s cloudy and may rain today—this is the most unusual weather we have had in years—so much rain and so many cool days that are just beautiful—my tomatoes are loving this I am sure—-however, when it gets permanently warm/hot it’s going to feel so darn hot to us and to the garden! It will put us all in shock.
I saw the movie Poms last night with Diane Keaton—was a good movie—and the women I met from this other book club were very interesting. One was a former publishing editor from Random House in NYC. One is a singer with a jazz group that is still performing—she is about 65. Tonight is my book club night—not here thank goodness.
I am working on a photobook for DHS18–spent another 2 hours yesterday and am only up to 2015 collecting pictures for it—have to start the book tomorrow and have it done by Sunday night in order to get it in time. Of course, there are very few pictures in these last few years so I am nearly done collecting. Looking back at all we used to do with him, it’s very sad that he has separated himself from family pretty completely other than occasional dinners with his mom.

June 24. I planned it so that I will be out the July 4th week as well. I have a good bit of sick time saved up, so it will be fine.

Holly - it is so good that you have time off with the bunion surgery . You will be so thankful for that.
Sue- enjoy seeing your co worker. I still enjoy so much getting together with my former friends from work. We do get togethers about once a year- however lately it seems less often than that. My high school class had a lunch for the ladies on Friday. I decided not to go since it was about an hour away and I would have to leave DH for a good part of the day. Would have loved to see those ladies!
Joan - you have done so much for Jordan. I know he thinks of you as adoptive parents. How wonderful that he has college expenses covered so well!
We won’t really know any thing else about DH’a condition until he turns in the monitor and the doc reviews the “events” he has recorded. He had an appt May 24th with the cardiologist to turn the monitor in. Then another appt in June to f/u. He seems to be having less events than right after getting the monitor. He has had the new bi-pap now since Monday. He is having some problems with the mask because of his broken nose but generally has done well with it. Where c-pap is continuous positive pressure in only , the bi-pap is positive pressure in and negative pressure out.
I have to say , since all our house guests have been gone, it has been nice getting back to our old routine each day

Hi!
Finally a nice, sunny day. It has been raining, cloudy for a week.
Holly, you should just totally relax and be lazy for awhile! I still have 1 nephew who will be a senior in hs this fall. I can't believe how quickly time has gone by.
Joan, you really have done a lot for Jordan, I admire you for caring so much about him and giving your time and effort to helping him. Congrats to him for the awards!
Jojo, how is your DH doing the past few days. Glad you are enjoying some down time at home.
Last Thurs we had dinner at one of my old intern's house. Though she no longer works at my old company and also no longer an intern. Her boyfriend lives with her and the 2 of them redid the living/kitchen/dining first floor of the house. It's a tiny house but they did a really nice job. He's also an architect. She's 26 but is very mature, and we get along great. And Fri night we ended up going with them to a wood studio open house at an old high school building turned into a work space. So there are a lot of small businesses in there along with cafes, restaurant, roof top bar. She and I were hoping SO might like the space enough to get a studio there, but he didn't.
Did my regular volunteering yesterday and last night went out to dinner with our oldest couple friends. I can't believe we haven't seen them for about 1 1/2 years. Between our cruises and their busy schedules it was difficult to get together. It was great to see them finally.
Busy social time for me, tonight I'm going out to dinner with 3 other women from my condo. We've all been traveling all over the place so it will be nice to catch up on each other's trips.

Enjoying some me time with the house—DH drove to Ely to spend a few days with DS Park Ranger. So nice not to have to think about dinner! Yesterday I had some little stomach flu bug—didn’t ever upchuck but felt like it all day and had stomach pains—today much better=—yesterday I just zoned out on the couch all day.
This morning early I spent two hours at the studio—got one more mug made from last week’s lesson—brought one home to finish here—none have handles yet! They fired my lady’s head and it looks so good compared to what I had expected. Also my tree tea light that I designed myself. I love it. Went to my weights class and now put b. Squash and beets in the oven to roast and will get started on DGS’’s photo album—will never have it ready by graduation! I’m starting over as the way I was doing it was just way too cumbersome.
Sue, how nice to have so many social activities with different people—I am impressed that you constantly do your service at the shelter as well—-helping Jordan is so easy cause he’s such a good person to spend time with so I think I get as much from it as I give to him—maybe more.
It is supposed to be 95 today but tomorrow is predicted to rain and only reach 70–this is crazy weather for us! I love the cool days tho! My beets are growing fast now—I think they like it too. Quite a few tomatoes should ripen in the next 2-3 weeks.

OMG, DGS18 texted me today—he broke the ice—opened the door for developing a relationship again—so happy.

That’s great, Joan. Hopefully he is coming around. I have a volunteer tomato and cucumber plant growing in the same pot. Need to get some more.
Jo Anne, hopefully things are settling down a bit for you.
Sue, sounds like good times. My church just revamped their lunch program for the homeless. Now its more of an open table event where everyone, including the helpers, share a meal. I am going to help with it this summer sometime.
It’s been a nice, quiet couple of weeks. My next class starts on Tuesday, and the class I am teaching starts the following Tuesday.

Yard work today- grass cutting time!
DH’s sister is coming to visit this weekend from near Charlotte . She wants to go to the Varsity to eat lunch on Saturday ;so we will go there after my DGS’s ball game. She hasn’t bee here for quite a while and wants to see my son and his family- this will be the only chance to see them- they will be going to a Braves game Saturday night.
DGD is out of the hospital and staying with her grandmother. She will have in home individual therapy which will be better for her as she feeds on everyone else ‘s problems in group. I guess the school year is a washout at this point.
Joan- so glad you were not sick longer
The weather here has been BEAUTIFUL. I have really been enjoying my new patio furniture!

Going into final week before Friday’s graduation for DGD18–photobook not done—ugh!
I just picked four beets out of garden and will roast this afternoon .
Going to early gym and stay for the morning then home to photobook work. Jordan has lost a filling he thinks so have to call and see if we can get in this week for that as well. I had them take off my gel polish and am going bare naked on my nails—my nails are literally ruined from doing the polish every other week—they are so soft I cannot even scratch my head without breaking them or bending them back—hoping I can handle this and that they will recover—they were never good but the gel faked my bad nails by putting strong over totally weak nails but now they are so thin that the tops of my fingers (under the nails) sort of hurts or is super sensitive.
I got caught up on journaling all my clay projects—keeping a journal so I can go back and make things I like successfully—Saturday we made large platters slumped in great big round molds to give the curve shape—they were free form—so not any certain shape—totally up to the builder—OMG, it is my first piece where I felt I sort of let go and just did something the clay wanted to do—it had sort of folded over in one corner and I was trying to figure out how to trim it off and not lose too much bowl—when I suddenly decided to clean up the fold and go with folding—the platter looks like a piece of material draped into a rounded mold—some of the edges drape down—there are folds and sort of fake gathers—and I think it looks so cool and it felt like for a change the clay was sort of in charge of how it wanted to look and I was out of my thinking mode! Any way I hope it holds up because it’s my favorite piece so far—and hope I can find a glaze that really belongs on it!
JoAnne, how is your husband doing ? Do you think the bipap helps—didn’t you say they put him on a bipap instead of CPAP—-or am I mixing you up with another friend dealing with this?
Holly, enjoy a few off days—what day is your surgery?
Hi, Sue—wonder if you will get this storm that zoomed through here on Friday and Saturday—it was pretty cold and dropped a lot of snow in the mountains.

We have had rain and rainy conditions all day every day this week so far—and breaking records with how cold it is—back to wearing my lightweight down jacket to the gym—in may!
Just finished dinner clean up—thank goodness DH does dinner dishes cause prep is a lot—and I always end up washing part of what I cook with! Made forbidden rice bowls tonight—had pickled ginger, sauteed mushrooms, carmelized onion, steamed carrots, roasted purple sweet potato wedges, avocado, tofu slices, and beet greens with onion and red pepper—the bowl was so, so good—haven’t done them in a long time!
I bought Jordan two new pair of pants at Tilly’s today, ordered a bounce house for his party—I think the teens will get a kick out of that—it’s not a little kid looking one. Ordering the food tomorrow in person after UNLV orientation morning—we are having Korean Barbeque—his favorite. Will also get a large green papaya salad at the Thai restaurant near us—it’s so good. Then I’ll make just one large salad that’s more traditional—may do the Asian salad I make with dry ramen noodles—Jordan’s favorite.
We will buy steaks for Sunday’s dinner with DGS18–have to go to Costco tomorrow for those.I will be glad when graduations are all over! Doing no more clay till then.
Holly, your hydrangea has grown so huge and is beautiful!
JoAnne I hope your silence isn’t because there’s been more trouble with DH’s health?
Sue you must be enjoying your very social week!
I started watching Dead To Me—OMG, it’s so full of twists.
Tanzi is cuddled under my lap blanket curled up next to my legs on the couch—I can’t move—-they don’t like it much when it’s not sunny out even tho they don’t go out—well Tanzi doesn’t anyway.

Hi all. Summer is truly here in GA! Temps in the mid 90’s . Up to 96 next week. I’ve been Trying to go outside only in morning or evening- but it seems that there is always something that needs doing outside during the hottest hours!
DH goes tomorrow to the cardiologist. We have a morning appointment and then will go for brunch.
Joan- I have never used gel nails or polish - but have pretty much stopped wearing polish except special occasions. Every time I used polish on my nails, my nails strangely enough seemed to break and split more. Also the texture of my nails would get terrible. I hate it because I do love pretty painted nails.
Holly - yes , when is your surgery? I’m knitting my first summer top. It seems to be taking forever
Sue- any plans to entertain over Memorial Day? I miss hearing about your dinner parties - wishing I could do like that.
We haven’t planned anything . I may try to get a few neighbors together for hamburgers and hotdogs at last minute Saturday.

Hi!
Finally some sunny days here. We did have some storms as the tornadoes came east.
Joan, I'm sure the party will be a huge success. Is Jordan no longer friends with your DGS18? In any case I'm glad that he is reaching out to you, did you finish the photobook? Sounds like you made a breakthrough with your pottery.
Jojo, really hope the individual therapy will help DGD, and that your DH's appointment goes well with getting some answers. Well I'm hoping that there is a little more separation between my Phillies and your Braves!
Holly, my volunteer place makes, packages, and delivers thousands of meals each week. Glad you enjoyed your weeks off from work and school.
I also noticed that my nails weaken with gel. I usually get gel before a trip and once I did back to back gel and it really affected my nails. Last trip I did gel, then on ship did a regular polish and even that affected my nails.
Last weekend was uneventful for us, nothing social. Then on Sun morning I got an email from one of my condo neighbors that I just had dinner with the previous Wed night, her father had passed away. During the day Wed, her father underwent surgery for broken femur, he was 98 yrs old. She was with him all day and stressed when she came to dinner. So Tues we went to the funeral and and the evening, shiva.
Yesterday I volunteered. I usually go Tues mornings and if I can Thurs afternoonsl
Today is SO's birthday! We are going out to dinner with my sister and BIL.
