I wrote a post and I guess I didn’t send it because it’s not here—oh well.
Sue, yes, I think DS Park Ranger has changed since his accident on the ATV two years ago—his back has bones that literally stick out—sometimes more than others—some of us think he is self medicating with alcohol and that the daily drinking is a result of that. He is more obsessive than before—we think he is uncomfortable and cannot sit comfortably—he paces and paces—used to pace quite a bit but over the top now—-he’s always been most interested in himself and only mildly interested in what others do but even that is more extreme. DDIL and I have tried to get him to my neurosurgeon to evaluate whether or not anything can be done to improve his back—sometimes he’ll agree to it but then pulls back. She is going to try again. My neurosurgeon is super conservative about surgeries and works out of Stanford so would not be doing things just to make money off of his problem. We’ll see.
Surgery on implant went fine but the antibiotics have been doing me in—feel sick on them and very tired—sort of queezy all the time—hate them—but have to take until Monday evening!
I took a wheel class again Wed night—made three decent small pots—not going to handbuilding tomorrow but will go in for a few hours on Sunday and finish a horse I started again and try throwing a couple pots on my own with no guidance. I did a lot better this time—the thickness of my edge was even all the way around. Sort of exciting—I may be giving everyone little pots for Christmas with an airplant or something in them! Of course I have to master glazing soon or I will ruin them in the process.
Back at the regular schedule at the gym again since Wednesday. Will go to cardio fusion early tomorrow as well.
Holly, how is walking without the boot—is your foot feeling pretty normal now? Did they have to put rods in the toe or anything?
Sue your nephews are lucky to have you introduce them to fine eating—wish I had someone do that with me—no confidence to go to places like you go as I would be like a fish out of water—no experience!
JoAnne, how is your son in CA?
I am impatiently waiting a delivery of a glaze I ordered (actually two) on line—was supposed to come today and now they are saying tomorrow—I am really anxious to try it—really bright red with a red gold that you can layer and get really interesting results—or at least someone got good results—I have so many bisque fired pieces and no glaze that I really love.

Ugh, now I see that I was not logged in—so just posted that post as a guest. Since restoring my iPad from start to fix it, I have had to log in whereas before I stayed logged in. Will have to see if I can get back to that.

Hi all,
Classes start this week. Summer went by in a blur. I’m taking one grad class and teaching the research skills class.
Joan, you can check a “keep me signed in” box on the log in page. My foot is still tender and a little swollen, and my shoe doesn’t fit right. Slow process for sure, but my toe is straight at least.
Sue, I’ve never had much desire to go on a cruise until one of my coworkers described one she recently went on. She felt the same way I did, but changed her mind. Any good cruise line recommendations to the Caribbean? I would particularly like to see the Virgin Islands.
Jo Anne, I hope your son is doing better.

Holly, I never had the desire either and when we did our first we were coerced by a friend—took us a couple days to realize what cruise life was and then we totally enjoyed it. We did two—both were Celebrity cruises—beautiful ships and both were new. Not many kids on either cruise.

Hi all, it seems ages since I posted . Returned from California Saturday a week ago. DS has an appt with a neurologist in September. Could not get one any sooner. He will have the lipomas removed Aug 30. Lipomas are fatty tumors- usually harmless . However, his are HUGE. Two on his neck and one covering his shoulder. They will put him to sleep to remove since they are so large. My theory is that maybe this will alleviate his symptoms if they are pressing on nerves. Of course it could be a disc problem in his neck too. I just hope that he will follow through - I’m afraid he might not since he is feeling better.
I booked 4 days at the beach - St Simons Island. Excited about that. My sister and her spouse will meet us there. We are renting a house together on the beach. It has been a really long time since we have been to the beach!
Joan I hope your oral surgery went well! You have really had a time with your mouth!
Hi Sue and Holly!
Got to get to bed- tired. Goodnight all!

Hi!
Quiet weekend for us, I spent Sat with my parents.
I am cooking so much more now that I'm not working. Since we are both home and no longer traveling for work, every meal - unless we go out to eat - is at home. We don't do take out much. SO is low maintenance, but we eat different things and also different times so I like to prepare things that he can take out of the refrigerator whenever he wants.
Joan, you shouldn't feel intimidated going into high end restaurants at all! You go out so often, it's just the same and a good waitstaff would be patient and explain anything to you. You do know a lot about foods anyway with the cooking that you do. Any more cruises for you in the future?
Holly, same as Joan. SO and I never thought we would like cruises, but on our first cruise, he was a member of an architectural jury, and they were judging on the cruise, so it was free for us. We loved it. The cruiseline we love is Seabourn, it is pricey but all inclusive - all alcohol and beverages, can eat wherever you want, whenever and with whoever you want, free room service 24 hrs, no tipping. We never pay the advertised prices, we have travel agents who get us great deals.
Jojo, I hope your DS follows through with the lipoma removal I've heard great things about St Simons, I'm glad you get to go to the beach!
Another heat wave here, in the 100s with the heat index.

I just looked up Lipomas—I never heard of such things—but I was so glad to read that they are benign—JoAnne, I hope that he gets them removed and feels better very soon—it is so hard when our sons and daughters struggle with health issues.
My son had an accident sanding a huge piece of walnut for a custom table he is making a client—the huge circular sander slipped just slightly and caught his wrist—he thought he was done working forever—after waiting three hours in ER his surgeon friend (same guy who road the continental divide route with him) came and checked him with his hand surgeon on the phone and they found no ligaments or tendons were severed—OMG, so frightening—so the surgeon friend took him to his hospital and stitched his wrist up—it was such a huge cut—I’m so grateful that he will be able to use his hand.
So funny when DH and I married we couldn’t wait for the ten years to go by so the kids would be grown up and we would be done with stress—ha, ha, what a joke on us—raising those little kids was a piece of cake compared to living with the stress of what adult kids can do to create stress!
Sue, DH and I want to travel and do as much as we can in places that require lots of walking and exercise—when we are not as good at that then we want to cruise again. It is a really easy way to travel—not having to look for food places, not having to repack, etc. So we have to wait a bit hopefully as we are able to do the tougher stuff now!!
I made another cat out of clay last night—it looks pretty cute! I am trying different glazes out on some test pieces but have not seen the results yet—I have so many things to glaze but don’t want to ruin any of them by glazing them ugly! DH is beginning to understand how much I love doing this—I know I’ll never be an artist but I think I’ll keep doing this as long as I can—I love doing something creative and so engaging—and I really like the people at the studio who are creative as well—all ages. I have to admit however that my garden and flowers are not getting their deserved attention—I need to get out there tomorrow morning and do some work—need to deadhead flowers and clean out my garden and get some winter things planted. Hard to think that way when it’s over 105 out still but good weather for sprouting seeds.
Holly good luck with the school year ahead—Jordan starts his classes next week—goes this Friday for new students. Seems the summer is drawing to an end.
I have been watching a new program about India—Delhi Crime—it is acted so well—but was really hard to watch—the season is solving one crime in Delhi—but it is so brutally realistic—and this one was about gang rape—and it was true—it’s like a history of crime in a way—so much about how women have not earned their rights or if they have it is only in recent times—the case was pivotal in changing laws about rape in India. For some reason India programs fascinate me lately—watched Made in Heaven (wedding planners for rich Indians but tons of complicated relationships and lots of education about the rich part of that society and the poor as well—Before that I had watched Unforgotten—another detective show—it was really good too==hoping they create another season—the main character in that one is the main character from that show about Halifax—Unforgotten is English. I also watched Indian Detective and that was really good as well—I think there will be another season of it from the way they left it.
Now I need to quit this evening watching and do some more reading—

Heading to the studio in about an hour—will give me time to add some detail to my last horse, buy a new bag of clay and get clay ready for working on the wheel—class on the wheel starts at 6 until 9 so will stop and make a salad at the market before I go as I am out of tofu. Got new walking shoes, Brooks, from Zappos today—kind of super bright but...
This morning I woke up before 6 so by 6 I was out walking—felt so good to be at it again—it was only 74 and I walked in the shade the whole way to the coffee shop and back so got 2.5 mi in finally—then did some laundry, kitchen clean up tasks, and organized the laundry room which had become my drop and run spot—I am feeling like cleaning out junk again—threw some old recipe magazines in the recycling and reorganized a couple cupboards and then went to the gym for weights class.
I’ll be really pooped tonight by 9!
DH is napping—did not get up and walk. He requires so much more sleep than I do.

Joan- so sorry to hear about your son! How scary that he could have lost the use of his hand. Electric saws are so dangerous. I have been looking for one to help in the yard. We have so many trees and many fallen limbs. I finally found a battery powered “jaw saw”. It is a chainsaw that has the blade protected by a “jaw”- should be much safer. I can only use it for limbs up to 4” in diameter- but it should be a big help and safe.
Sue/ not a surprise that you are cooking more at home. With your talent for it I’m sure you enjoy it. Do you like to bake? I am getting more interested in baking simple desserts-and love to eat them!
My sister from NC will be here this weekend. We are going to an “all class “ high school reunion that they have every year. Never been to one before so I don’t know what to expect. It is only 11 a.m. til 3p.m. On Saturday but I don’t plan for us to stay that long. My sister has some friends that she knows will be there that she wants to see.
House cleaning today- grocery shopping tomorrow.
Very hot here so have not been able to work in the yard much. Rain coming this weekend tough which should cool it off some.
Holly has it been as hot at your place? Sue 101 is really hot for Philly!
Holly- I have two projects going at one time now- one is crochet and one is knitting- both are summer tops

It has been really hot here. The storms have helped cool things down a bit though.
If I try to knit and crochet projects at the same time, I would get so mixed up, haha. Just working on a few things for holiday art sales.
Sue, HelloFresh has helped me learn some basic cooking strategies. I’m starting to feel like I’m “graduating” from that now, but can get the ingredients at the store. Does SO still eat caesar salads regularly? Lol
Currently reading My Grandmother Said to Tell You She’s Sorry by the same author who wrote A Man Called Ove. Joan, didn’t you read that one?

Holly, I did not read that one—I read two others of his but not the grandmother one.
My former teacher and friend Valerie who moved to MX four years ago came to town and she and I had lunch and chatted for the entire day—11 to 5–was so nice to catch up. I hired Valerie to teach second grade right after she got her teaching degree at age 60 and she was a great teacher—went on after I retired to teach jr high science for years later—when they started putting 45 kids in her class with no aid she retired at age 75–she is now 80 and looks younger than me—I had DH take a picture and she has way fewer wrinkles—her skin looks so good. She took scuba lessons at age 68 and flying lessons at age 61. Crazy awesome lady!
I am watching the first season of Monk—I only saw an occasional program—I love it.
I have to start thinking about Christmas pottery gifts—want to do a few for friends but am having so much trouble finding the glazes I really like. But need to get on with making things and keep testing colors. Holly and JoAnne—are you giving knitting and crochet gifts? I’d like to give all my gym friends a little something—was thinking about a clever fridge magnet—that would be easy to do a lot and make each one unique.

I am making some items for the Art Sale at the university and the Handmade for the Holidays sale at the Arts Council.
Did the bike on Sunday. My foot is still a little sore in general. Sure does take awhile to heal.

Sitting for a minute before serving dinner—made rice bowls for us and guests—also a beet quinoa salad and watermelon for dessert. Have been on my feet all day literally—gym for two hours and then food prep and then celery prep and juicing—our cruise BF’s are leaving permanently for Florida tomorrow—I say permanently but they will be back probably every few months as both are still working part time here==mostly on line but have to come back occasionally. But they will not keep an apt. Here any more.
Watched American Factory on Netflix last night—if you have not seen it it is a must see doc on what is happening in some of the factories in our country. The story of one. It is the first of Obamas’ Higher Ground video productions—they will sponsor videos that help Am. Understand each other and other cultures better—it does not take a stand—just lets you see what people feel and experience. Well done.

Hi all, DS and her spouse left Monday morning. We had a great weekend! Really enjoyed the All Class Reunion- it was classes from the 50’s and 60’s- all old people! Mainly lunch and socializing held at the Elk’s Club.
Sunday afternoon my sister and I were sitting on the back deck and saw smoke two houses up. I became quite concerned that there was a fire and walked up and knocked on the door. The woman was so impressed that I had been so concerned and took interest in checking on them. About 30 min later she came to my door with two bouquets of flowers- she said that there aren’t many good neighbors left in the world and she appreciated what I did I had not met her before and told her maybe we could walk together sometime.
This coming weekend my DSIL is coming for a visit. She Also lives in N C- used to live around the corner from us before her divorce about 10 yrs ago. She now lives near her daughter.
I’m trying to do my strength exercises 5-6 days per week. I have not gained weight but everything has seemed to change places on my body- especially around the middle!
