What a difference today can make!
I enjoyed reading everyone's answers to all the clutter questions. It made me think of the other clutter in our lives. The food habits are also clutter. They are the clutter that keep us from reaching our weight goals.
What family get togethers test your food resolve the most?
It is totally brain clutter that makes us think that we have to have a certain food at a certain celebration, for instance, having to eat someone's special desert at one event or the other.
What are the foods that you have the most trouble resisting? Do you resist, or do you have a little bit of whatever is the special dish?
We are so programmed to have certain foods for certain situations, they make us feel better, before they make us feel worse. Our habits are so cluttered with bad habits that we have trouble ridding ourselves of them.
Ideas? Questions? Situations?
FUN: What's the weirdest thing in your purse?

Good questions, Beverly!
I think we are programmed from childhood to not make waves and to be polite. I don't like to be rude at Wednesday gatherings so usually taste things unless they are foods that they know I do not eat. Even this Wednesday I worry about how not to be rude...do I take a dish with me tomorrow so I can eat and if so should it be salad or soup or just what should it be? Or, do I go and not worry about it and eat what I can taking a bag of nuts and dried fruits in case there is nothing vegan to eat at the table. Or do I not be vegan on Wednesdays at noon during January.
No family food celebrations as no family nearby to celebrate with...just the Wednesday group

I often do the cooking for holiday or special meals so I make things I can eat. If I make a dessert, I will have a sliver of whatever it is. At others' places I take more of what I can eat and maybe a sample of other things that look interesting. Desserts are optional but I do often take a couple bites. This is easier if it is a serve yourself meal.
I don't think I have anything weird in my purse right now, but I have been known to carry a punch can/bottle opener. The old fashioned "church key."

Since I am now the matriarch of my family, I hate not to make the traditional dishes at special occasions. I usually only make them a couple of times a year. When I make something special, I usually eat a small portion of it. Sometimes, I will taste all of the deserts, that usually satisfies me. For the most part, I try to avoid sugar ( I crave it less if I don't have it at all ), but I do give in if it is truly a special treat. I do think that these special meals do count as clutter.
I don't know of anything really weird in my purse, accept the fact that I always carry gas-x with me, just in case. TMI.

What family get togethers test your food resolve the most? Don't have to worry about family gatherings, but like Cathy, I get together with a group of ladies once a month for cards. We usually potluck it, and most of the ladies who come are healthy eaters. I will try a bit of things that interest me and skip the rest.
What are the foods that you have the most trouble resisting? Do you resist, or do you have a little bit of whatever is the special dish? My downfalls are yeasty breads/baked goods. Although I know how to bake, I don't do much baking anymore, so it is usually a treat when I have some.
FUN: What's the weirdest thing in your purse? I have a purse that would do really well on "Let Make a Deal". Do you remember when Monte Hall would go up to a lady and say "if you have a (fill in the blank) I will give you $100." Well, I would probably have it. Right now (because I had brought it to work to use) I have a battery tester in my purse.

Actually family get together are easy to handle as 2 of my sisters are vegetarian/vegan so it is common to have food preferences. Not too many sweets which is a good thing. They are my temptation.
The strangest thing in my purse right now are two diet lime cokes for later this afternoon when I’m at mom’s.

As a couple of others have mentioned, I don't have many family gatherings to deal with. And, thankfully, no one seems to be very worried about what I'm eating or not eating.
To be honest, I don't recall my immediate family had a lot of specific foods connected to special holidays or days. The only one I can recall is that "birthday cake" was always an angel food cake - which...as far as cakes go, isn't too bad (calorie or point wise).
Purse - I've tried to cut back on the "stuff" I lug around on a daily basis - and apparently, I'm doing well, because I took a look and I don't think I have anything really odd in my purse at all. But, I do have an assortment of those things that someone might need - such as "do you have a...nail clipper, bandaid, elastic for a pony tail, bobby pin, safety pin, etc".
