Good morning all and I hope you all have a good day
Ginny, I hope the house your dd and her fiance look at is a good one. Fixing up houses is never easy but if a person knows how to do things it can be very rewarding. Have you and your dh recovered from your illnesses? I sure hope so. Yes my dh is the one that wants to go places but it seems as though he's kind of lost interest in going as much as he used to want to go.
Well finally good news on the Walmart return. Tomorrow Fed Ex is actually coming to pick it up! They should have just done that in the first place. But time will tell. Now today we just have to get it all packed up and ready and set it outside before time for them to arrives which could be before the time I usually get up so will set it outside before I go to bed. Luckily we live in an area that is safe from thieves stealing packages. Dh will be very relieved when this is safely returned. He is a very pessimistic person so he worries a lot. And actually I don't think that $40 is enough to be a constant worry. No I don't like to give money for nothing but "what will be will be".I worry a lotmore about larger sums of money although this morning I've been trying to find out how much I paid for a cd that I got in the mail. It's supposed to be a cd rom of a McARthur study Bible but either the info was missing or I didn't read close enough becauses it's very old and is for windows 3.1 or 95 and I can't seem to get it to install on my computer. I don't remember how much I paid for it but what a ripoff. Even the case is seriously scratched up and crocked.I can't even remember who I bought it from...one of those companies like Better World Books or Thriftbooks or something like that but I can't seem to find any email telling me about my order that would have told me what company it was. I need to write these things down. If it's what I thought it was it should have been a physical Bible that I paid $27 for. If I paid that much for this little cd that doesn't work I won't be happy. Return address is from Goodwill which sells books thru those companies. The actual Bible though may have been a separate order but no order info for that either and it wasn't even the same Bible so I may have even ordered the wrong thing completley.

Sue, any buyer would say my house is a total doover also. It definitely is 80's. But I intend to stay here till I die...well unless dh dies first then I'm moving somewhere where I don't have to worry about maintainence. But Im not spending all that money to update for a buyer...been there did that and never again. I may take a big loss on what I could get but I'll still get way more than I paid and I'd be happy with that. Having all the updates done would take the house to a point where I'd never recover my costs. My sil spent all kinds of money updating his parents house after they died and ended up taking a huge loss. He would have been better off just leaving it the way it was.So I'll be selling mine "as is". And the yard is nice but could be better too but we can no longer do the things we would like to do out there and can't afford to hire people so it is what it is and will stay that way.My house is the last on the street and has a beautiful unobstructed view of the mountain and a couple floor to ceiling windows (one on each level ) to sit and enjoy it thru so it would be totally worth it to the buyer to buy at the price I would sell it for and update it to suit themselves.A good realtor would be able to show them the great possiblilities.
And I'm so sorry about your back. I can sure relate.

Hi Ginny, Ruth , cj, phyl & Sue. This will be a quick post as I am tired and should go to bed. Janet broke her hipand has been in the hospital. She had surgery on Sunday and was moved to rehab yesterday. I had injections in my eyes yesterday so didn't see her at the new facility until today. T he hospital stay was fine but I am not sure about rehab but I will visit her every day and stay a few hours. I had bought some yarn but I am not sure that I like it. I have started an afghan for Janet about 3 times and have not been happy with what I have been doing but I am not giving up.
It had been raining hard today which is good as we need the rain to make up for the dry years. It has also been snowing up in the Sierras which will help with the water we need next summer. Now I should go to bed. I will try to post more often. But I have not forgotten about you all. Take care.

Sue, from having just sold and having to rennovate certain sections of my mom’s house (which was in AWFUL condition when we started working on it) the best you could do would be to make sure everything works- and is freshly painted, hardwood floors refinished (if present and necessary) and let the house be. we could have gutted and rennovated the primary bath and kitchen- but knowing what the buyer would want is a guessing game. We opted to go for squeaky clean and between the floors (which looked magnificent) and fresh paint it looked great.
Meg- prayers will be said for you and Dd. Recovery from a broken hip is no easy thing...I am glad for her sake that you have the time to help her recover.
Ruth- hoping that FED ex has picked up that pesky Walmart package and your headaches are over!!!
DGD is here- she is not sleeping well for her parents overnight A bib strain on them. Right now she is resting....lets see how long this lasts. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Meg - I'm sorry to hear about Janet's injury. I hope she'll have a successful rehab, and you can get there to see her. Hope your eyes are doing better today too. My house needs a major renovation too and I just won't do it since I don't want to stay in this area. If I did, I'd put my money into the house and get it updated. The last time we did the kitchen was in the 80s and one bathroom was half renovated in the 90s, the other one hasn't been updated since the 70s! It's an old house that I know needs updated electrical and plumbing. Hopefully whenever I sell I can get a buyer that want's to come in and do all those things. I went out yesterday for groceries and errands so I don't have to go out again until next week if I don't want to. Looks like we might have some bad weather tonight and maybe on the weekend too and then really cold weather on Monday. So it's nice to be able to stay in. I hope I can work on the decluttering too. I did go to JoAnn Fabrics yesterday and bought a few yards of fabric - some dark red and a light gray/silver. I had a project in mind that I might use them for, not sure yet though. Take care everyone!

Oh Meg, I'm so sorry Janet broke her hip! I'll be praying for fast recovery so she can get back to where she is more comfortable in the familiar setting. I know this is hard on you both and I'm sure Janet loves having you there everyday.
Ginny, that's what I'm going to do when I sell. If necessary I'll pay my sil to paint everything and might get new flooring because the carpet we have might be a cause for alarm for some buyers although, it's like you said, it's not easy deciding what a buyer might want. It's a matter really of having it look nice and the realtor helping the buyer envision what all they can do
No the Walmart saga continues. FedEx driver called to confirm and asked if I had a label. I told him what the woman at FedEx cs told me aabout the driver bringing the label and he told me that that is not true. The customer has to have the label so we're back to square one but this is a minor problem compared with what many of you and others are dealing with.I found out too that it was me that made the mistake on the Bible cd so more money wasted. No answer to my email to them.Oh well it's only money...as I said, there are more serious problems in the world.
Have a good day. I'm holding you all in prayer.

Good evening!
First of all, Ruth, thanks for your prayers for us! We do appreciate it.
Ruth so sorry that the Walmart saga continues. Can FedEx email the label to you? Ok... has Walmart ever emailed the return label to you? If so, email it to me, I will print it out and snail mail the label to you. I too have bought books from Better world and Thriftbooks- and have had no issues with them. So sorry you have hit a snag- but I do know its so important to read and understand what you are buying and not all write ups of items sold online are as accurate as they can be. Its the one glitch about online buying.. Home colors are interesting for when you choose to sell. I tried to select colors that worked and were popular. 80% of the house was painted a bone white. The kitchen we had painted in a soft grey (very popular color) and my bedroom- well I have not slept in that house for almost 40 years but I chose a soft butter yellow to take advantage of the natural lighting. Dh thought it was a horrible color....but my realtor thought it was perfect. Anyway, depending upon what is beneath your carpet, it might be best to leave the old carpet in place, as hardwood floors are so popular now. Guess that is where a good realtor comes into play. How are you feeling?
CJ- so glad you got all your shopping done, most importantly that trip to Joanns! Ha ha ha. I cannot imagine not having some essential fabric during a very stormy weekend. Actually- I put a big rush on attaching the first round of strips to the falling charms quilt- to evaluate if I had enough fabric. ( I will be sort of near Joanns tomorrow if I needed to get more fabric). Cannot wait to hear what your plans are for the dark red and light silver fabrics.. I am sure that felt good getting in there, and getting some inspiration. Sounds like a perfect weekend to do some decluttering!! Stay home- nice and cozy and warm. And perhaps you can start on another quilt top.
I am cutting my strips apart so that I can attach the side strips and begin actual quilt assembly. I have a lot of cutting and ironing yet to do, so it will be awhile. Saturday will be busy with Dd#1’s memorial service- I am helping set up the church and am playing flute during the hymns with the pianist and organist. Church should be packed- they are expecting 200- 300 people. We are in for a major winter storm, so I wonder how many will actually attend.
Ok I have babbled enough for one day. Ginny

Ginny, we love your so called babbling. I love everyones' "babbling".
I'm sure the floors under the carpeting is terrible so you're undoubtedly right about leaving the carpeting that is there and have the realtor point out what great flooring they could put in to replace it.If I could do the sales pitch myself it would be great in a way because I can envison all kinds of things that woulld make this house spectacular if only one had the money
The colors you picked do sound wonderful Ginny. The yellow in the bedroom sounds perfect. You might remember that that'swhat we picked for in our bedroom was called some kind of yellow and it's more of a cream with slight yellowish tint that is even nice than it sounds.
I do hope that many, many people will be at the memorial service. It sounds like the young woman was very loved by many people and I'm sure it will be a little bit of comfort to her family to have people show that to them.
CJ the dark red and silver sounds as though it will go together very well. What other colors will be in the quilt or have you decided yet
Oh and whatever company I bought what I thought was a Bible from it was shipped directly from a Goodwill who was selling it under the book company's site. They immediately emailed me back this morning after I had posted here and had refunded my money.
Ginny, I was thinking earlier today that you would offer to have me email you the label and snail mail it to me. It's just the kind of thing you do. You are such a kind person and I'm sure the others woulld have offered to if they had thought of it. We are such a wonderful group. I think though that while I'm out tomorrow I'll stop at the library and print because, yes Fed Ex did email me the printable label. I was even thinking of emailing it to my son and having him send me a copy but they're so slow about getting things mailed. If printing it at the library doesn't work out I may take you up on that offer. Thank you so very much. I'm going out because now that dgs doesn't want my old car I asked on Christmas if any of my dd or her family want4ed it and it turns out that dd wants it.Her car is even older and is very unreliable so she's going to try this one which will work find except that for us we don't use it often enough and the battery goes dead. If we use it every few days it starts fine. So we're taking it over to her but stopping to do a few things on the way then she'll drive us home.
As far as how I'm doing, I did do a little too much this morning so the back aches some but just aches, nothing at all serious. It's definitely going to be back to it's normal state soon. I need to exercise, walk with Leslie and maybe have the doctor order me PT to learn what evercises to do to protect the back...probably core strengthening or something but I wat expert advice so I don't do something that will be counterproductive.
I've been crocheting and will now go back to that.
Take care, my dear friends

A clever way to get around the flooring issue when selling an older home is to offer a flooring incentive of about $5000. The buyer thinks he's getting a good deal and $5000 is a lot less than replacing flooring in most houses. Buyers seldom seem to want what the previous owner might choose to install.
I hope the label situation will work!
And I hope the memorial services are well attended.
It started snowing a short while ago. I was talking to someone in Reno this afternoon, and he said that Donner Pass is supposed to get 1-3' of snow. I have no idea how much we're going to get, but the storms that were going to go around us evidently are coming through here. That suits me just fine. Our snow pack is low. With the warmer days and lows below 20, the parking lots and secondary streets are very icy. Fresh snow would be good, crunchy and safer ... until it gets down to the ice level again!
Quilting was fun this morning and a good break for me. I'm officially taking a break from my own paperwork.

Good afternoon! Busy day here....we got some snow last night- so schools went on a 2 hour delay. That left them even more short handed at the bus garage. They asked me to come in.....I was heading to the store anyway, so I drove for a few hours.
Ruth- please feel free to email me that label and I will get it snail mailed to you, if that is what it takes. Keep in mind that Monday is MLK day- so if I can get it in the mail tomorrow it would be better. Glad to hear that your back is improving. Yes, some PT might really be good for you.
Sue- glad you got to quilting this morning....absolutely a necessity to take a break from paperwork which can really overwhelm. You had a great idea about the $5000 credit for flooring....nice way to get around a sticky problem.
Hope to stop in later on. I leave in a little bit to go get my hair cut. I do look like a shaggy dog. GInny

I will call her tonight.she has always been a bad diabetic. I do not know if her bs sugar dropped or what.
I Find out she was wearing stupid shoe like flip flops, slip ons,.mules, clogs I will warn her again about getting good shoes. will also talk to her ex. they are living together and might get married again after 15 years. I don't trust him.
I will talk to him and tell him to get the dd on board and pick up rugs and stupid shoes.
we know women who have worn stupid shoes and their foot slips off and they break an ankle.doctors are even against these type of shoes.

Good evening!
Phyl sounds like you have had a busy day, a good one too. Totally agree with your advice for wearing proper shoes. I used to fight with my mom over what she would put on her feet- shoes that did not support her or became a tripping hazard. Hope you do not get too much snow.....and enjoy your night home.
CJ- I did enjoy waching the Happy Trails tutorial. She makes it look so easy and accomplishes in 12 minutes what would take me two hours. I like the fabrics she used for this quilt also...but agree that seeing the quilt in another color scheme would be interesting. There is software or apps that are quilt design apps and with the click of a mouse you can change the color scheme of a quilt to see how it looks. Pretty cool. Thanks for sharing the link.
Finished all my cutting (for now) of the quilt. Now have to iron all the pieces and attach the other side.
Have a good night all G

Good morning! Quiet here....hope each of you is safe and warm.
Got my hair done late yesterday- the original appointment was I think 2 weeks ago when I was sick. Feels good not to look like a shaggy dog. I stopped at Dd#1 house on the way home, she is driving me to the memorial service today as Dh needs the car. Our other car needs the battery charged- but the hood latch is broken (which just happened) so we cannot open the hood to charge it. Think that vehicles days are numbered anyway....its a 25 year old car.
Probably will not get back to my machine until much later. This morning is busy and then the service is this afternoon. I hope to be home by around 4, before the snow starts.
Will stop back in later when I can. G

Sorry for not posting yesterday. DD didn't end up wanting us to bring the car over yesterday after all. Said she was too sick to drive us back home so I guess one of these days she will get it somehow. She claimed she needed it for a Tuesday appointment. So instead we went grocery shopping. All the walking and bending to pick up grocery bags added to what I did in my craft room the day before cause my back to hurt even worse than it did the day I hurt it so I wasn't really able to do anything. Meds helped and it's better today, In fact it feels pretty good. Ginny, I didn't realize you were one of our "own old cars" club. I now have given away all my cars that were earlier than 2000 and just have the 2000 that dd was supposed to get yesterday. so now my oldest is only 14 years old or will be when this 2000 is gone.Congrats on getting all the cutting done...for now Sue thanks for reminding me about the carpet allowance. I was thinking of doing that a few years ago when we were considering selling our house. As you said, it's a good way to have a buyer feel better about having to replace flooring. CJ, thanks for the quilt tutorial link. Phyl, I'm glad your sil liked the sweatshirt Can't remember what others have said and too tired to go back....Lazy?
