Hi everyone
This was a very busy week and very chilly week! Fortunately it will be about 40* tomorrow.
On Wed. evening we had a farewell dinner in Boston for my DS/DDinLaw prior to their move to CA. It was a lovely time with my DS's MinLaw, FinLaw and his DW, along with my DD/DSinLaw & DGD.
I drove in with my DGD & DS's DMinLaw. My car was making a funny noise but on the ride home it seemed ok. Then it started up again yesterday. Since I had a free oil change at the dealership I decided to go today and also have the 'noise' checked. I was told I needed rear brakes and rotors and I was glad it could be done immediately. Two hours later I set out for home, a happy camper to have my car 'all set'. However, about 10 miles up the road my car felt sluggish and then began to vibrate. I was lucky to get over to the breakdown lane and call 'State Troopers' and AAA.
It took two calls to 911 to get the Troopers to show up, in fact AAA showed up at the same time. I got towed home to my local mechanic. It was unacceptable to have a car that was drivable and supposedly repaired, to falling apart ten miles later. I did speak to the GM of the dealership, who agreed with my concerns and asked me to call back when my mechanic evaluates the situation.
The State Police asked me why I needed assistance when cars were whizzing by at 80 mph! Hello! I couldn't even get out of the car to go with the Tow Driver. My DD met me at the garage and drove me home. I'll go there tomorrow and stay over, use their car to drop them at the train and I'll drive DGD to school.
When all is said and done, I'm thankful that I was safe and my car will be fixed. It's only money! Grrr!
Re: Social Security. My benefit was very low as I was self employed, with 3 dependents and many write offs for business. My taxable income became low after deductions. When DH passed away, I automatically got notified that I would receive his benefit which fortunately is maximum benefit.
Friends have told me that although they paid into both Social Security and a State Pension, etc they receive very little from Social Security because you are not allowed to double dip over a certain amount.
I'm looking forward to the Super Bowl tomorrow evening. I have two 'squares' if a quarter ends in 4 for both teams I win or if a quarter ends in 8/1 I win. The last time I played I won $125. This time the stakes are double. It makes it fun to watch the game!
Gail, good that the Colonoscopy is behind you. With all of that prep you should have dropped some weight!
Sharon, loved your 'Pear Painting' So lovely! Congrats on the Shuffle Board wins! Enjoy your company!
Jane, glad to hear that you are getting out and about. I have grown to enjoy my life whether flying solo or with company. Good that you enjoy your line dancing and bridge, too!
I'm planning to turn in a little early tonight as I pretty much vegged tonight after the stressful day that I had. Tomorrow I need to cook and clean and make up for this wasted day!
Have a great Sunday everyone!
