People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

I don't think we got the freezing rain but we did get some thunderstorms during the night and this time both Bridgette and Bailey went under the covers! Bailey has never been afraid of storms so I think she realized the extra attention Bridgette gets and decided she wanted some too!
Got a text from Debbie last night that she was doing her shopping at Walmart and literally ran into Jeff! She said they were both taken back but he smiled a genuine smile and she said well this is weird and they both laughed and kept walking but in opposite directions! She said in the 10 months they've been separated she has never run into him but since they both grocery shop there I figured it was just a matter of time. But at least it wasn't a bad run in.
Bug guy coming for quarterly spraying today but other than that nothing happening. The vet visit yesterday for annual exam and shots was $513 and both need dental cleaning but he was all booked this month so it'll be done March 5th and they will still give us the 10% discount offered for February. Also he was able to use the blood drawn to do the heartworm check to do the pre-op blood work so that also saves us money. Then he sat on the floor to get them to sit on his lap saying how he loves it when he gets to see them as they're two of the sweetest and well behaved dogs he has as clients. He called us last night to say their enzyme count was a little high but not to worry as that's to be expected at their age but he wants to check again in 3-5 months to be sure it doesn't get too high. He's a very young vet but I just love him and how he is with our two and I think they love him too! What was funny though is they always take them one at a time to the back to do the blood draw and so the tech took Bridgette first and Bailey just sat watching the door and when they brought Bridgette back Bailey was so happy to see her and then the tech said okay Bailey your turn now and Bailey went around the exam table and under the chair to avoid her and she picked her up saying silly girl don't you realize I don't need your leash as you're so small I can just pick you up! We got that please help me look from her and Bridgette just laid on the floor staring at her as though she was disgusted with her for her behavior!

Good Morning!
Sandy, Thanks for starting us off.
I was up early for PT but yesterday my computer completely died on me. Right before it died it said their was no power and I had it plugged in, so I ordered a battery for it. Now it seems to be working. After yoga today Kathy and I are going to Ginza's for sushi for lunch, then we will go shopping.

Good morning all!
It's another foggy start to the day and we're getting quite a bit of rain both today and tomorrow but thankfully it's not cold enough to turn to freezing rain. We had a few storms move through during the night and the thunder woke me up but I was able to get back to sleep without much trouble.
I got a big burst of energy yesterday when I got home from taking the cat to the vet so I decided to clean the house instead of waiting until today like I had originally planned. I dusted, cleaned bathrooms, vacuumed and mopped all the floors and even washed the throw rugs. Now the only thing on my plate today is to just relax! I'm sure if I get bored enough, I can find a few small chores to keep me occupied.
Ruth, enjoy your lunch today. I've only had sushi once and I'm not a fan but lots of people seem to like it. I like fish but it can't taste too "fishy".

Good morning. When I opened my chromebook this morning I found yesterday's post so I pushed the button and posted it. Nothing important other than to say I got my passport in 2 1/2 weeks when the government was closed.
Sandy thanks for the start. My vet also sits on the floor and gets to the dogs on their level. I feel that is a sign of a vet who really, really cares about the animals. Vet bills are really hig and that is the only reason I said I would never have another dog after Jenna died last year. Huey was a senior to senior adoption which means the rescue will take care of the bills for him. I just feed and love him. I am so fortunate.
The heavy rain is to start today and get worse tomorrow and then turn colder Thursday night into Friday. I see the pattern that Sandy is getting the weather and then passing it to Vicki and I get what is left over a day or two later. (LOL).
Going to yoga today and have work at 4, but nothing but housework in between. Just had egg an avacao for breakfast and feel like I need something else. I think I am going for an apple with a little peanut butter. Already showed and washed my hair. Hope to get a lot accomplished today,

Good morning.
Yesterday had lunch with my two sisters for the baby sister's birthday (68). We all live in the same area so thankful we can still occasionally get together.
Today grocery shopping for senior discount day, such an exciting life.
Jane I think you are doing better than can be expected. It is perfectly ok to have some days harder than others. You keep yourself busy and continue getting out and about, and that us important.
Carolyn

Hello all. I’ve been crazy busy getting ready for company, the clubhouse garage sale and an art group I will lead tomorrow. I will be cooking today for both the company and bake sale. And I have to get my lesson plan ready. Whew!
I a, disgusted with my Fitbit. If I shop and hold the cart, it will not count steps. I checked it this time. Not one step. I must not bounce enough when I walk. Ha
Sorry no Q from me today. Anyone else can. We need a question volunteer for Tuesday too. Maybe Vicki? Maybe Caroline?

You are so cute when you talk about your two little furry ones, Sandy. Ruth, have fun at Ginza's. Vicki, if you get bored, come on over and clean here. And then I get your weather, Geri. We have some storm coming in tonight. The temperature will determine whether it is snow or rain. Cold tomorrow too, then up to 50 again on Friday. Yo-yo weather. The good thing about having my surgery in February is that I'll miss part of the winter. Not sad about that. DD called me in tears. She drove her dad to the hospital for his quadruple bypass surgery this morning and it was hard to see him wheeled out and looking so vulnerable. Tough for her to deal with both of us within a couple of days. I am going to a doctor, then to have my hair cut. I have to renew my passport too. I will have passport photos taken after my haircut. That was a long State of the Union address last night. I watched the Democratic rebuttal and some discussion and got to bed very late. Only 4 hours of sleep. If I can fit it in, a nap is in my future. Wishing you all a wonderful day, whatever you do. Gail

Sharon I wondered about you so glad to see you are just busy. I understand your frustration with fitbit not counting steps. It also didn't give any credit for moving backwards or sideways like my one pedometer did. My Apple watch does better but still not as good as that pedometer did. (and it was so much cheaper)
I have spent an hour with Xfinity but it worked out for me. I am getting all new equipment including a new modem and they are installing it for free (saving me $70) and saving me a trip to their store (which is between me and where I teach line dance ) Since "we" are 10 year customers they are doing this for me and I also pleaded being 80 --almost. And they are coming tomorrow!
It is warmer outside than in the house so I should open all the doors.
Today I am working on things here and also my current book. I have 6 books in at the library which must be picked up by Saturday. I kept don's library card so I have a list of 40 on reserve and it seems whenever I pick any up I add to the list. I do enjoy reading more than I do TV but I seem to need the TV noise. I did return one unread.
OK break is over--Only at 895 steps so need to move around to get to my 5000 goal. Looking at some of these old line dance sheets I have in the garage makes me want to do those old dances. They are much too hard for my class and I doubt that I can do them now since I was doing them 15 years ago when I was more steady on my feet.

Good late morning, been to preschool, DGD#2's house, DD's house, (no one home just dropping things off) to elementary school as I forgot to give money for Draven's Read A Thon, so dropped it off at school, then to Walmart for gas, bird seed, kitty litter, thread, trail mix for DH and picked up a book. Back to preschool this afternoon. Back at home, cleaned bathroom floor and put down a new throw rugs. Cleaned entry from garage, that is always a mess in winter. Going to wash a couple rugs and wipe up kitchen floor. My step breakdown I'd to have 3500 steps by noon, I have 3755.
It is apparent our weather here does not move on to anyone. We had freezing rain/ sleet yesterday evening, TOPS was cancelled but would not have gone in that weather. Freezing rain/ sleet again tonight turning to snow in the morning, possibly no school again tomorrow, colder weather and 3 days of possible snow mix first of next week.
DH had a very had time getting to sleep last night but it bright and early to go to breakfast and gambling. He finally ended up sleeping on the couch. Hopefully he will have a better time tonight.
Everyone seem very busy today. Jane keep on dancing, music seems to calm DH sometimes.

The next court date is March 27th. Maija was a no show at the last counseling session last night and I guess Jeff told his lawyer it was Debbie's fault. After court the two lawyers met and Debbie's lawyer listened to his lawyer and then set her straight on a lot of things as she had been told a lot of lies by Jeff. Debbie told me that Maija said she wasn't going to anymore counseling with him and never wants to see him again and since she's almost 18 she can't be forced. Jeff's lawyer said she could take Maija and Debbie to court regarding this and have the court order her to see him. Well since nothing will happen before March 27th and with the dockets full it would be the end of April before that could happen and Maija turns 18 on April 20th it would be a mute point as she will be an adult and can't be forced to see him. Debbie said if the counselor had been doing her job she would have realized prom night was the straw that broke the camel's back as Jeff had been mentally abusing Maija for over 15 years and now that she's away from that she is happier and has blossomed!

Sandy This divorce has certainly been a real fiasco for Debbie and Maija. I know you will all be so glad to have it over. I still can't believe how he gets alimony. What a jerk.
I will have to get up and move during all the commercials tonight since I need over 800 more steps to reach the 5000 mark.
I have had a mess all over the house today. I had the line dance stuff from the garage spread out on the couch, the love seat, the coffee table and the floor. Now it is mostly organized but still spread out. But that big box is now empty. Then there was my desk which was full of things I needed to go over and either write checks or fill out forms including one from Hospice and my voting ballot.
And I was going thru banking stuff and needed room to spread it out so went out on the lanai and used that table. I got that all organized and filed again.
Then on Don's desk I had income tax stuff which I went thru and put in a folder . It doesn't look like much but everything I worked on is organized and it took all day. I only got 2 phone calls made and needed to make at least 2 more. It was rather good to have a day I didn't leave the house since I was certainly able to keep busy.
My current book is rather interesting. It is 4 authors each sharing a story and they all link together. I think I am the first person to get this book since it was on reserve forever before it finally got at the library. If you like "women's type of books this one seems good. I am on the second story since I started it last night. A Wedding on Bluebird Way by Lori wilde, Janet Dailey, Allyson Charles and Stacey Keith.

Karen E It is good that you are able to help all your family but that is a lot of traveling for you. I would be worn out from getting in and out of the car.
I am rather unhappy with my vet. He is never there and every time I go I see a different Vet. In the last 10 years of taking Kelcy I bet we have never had the same vet more than twice and most of them are only there for 1 visit. The vet who is the "owner" I think we have seen 3 times in the last 5 years. I would change vets but don't seem to have the energy and this one is close and has the groomer. It is also the place I had my pets euthanized.
Gail I can't remember but when you have your surgery where are you going to stay.
In my email I have gotten info on Single's cruises and they offer to get you a room mate. The only one I was at all interested in was a river cruise on the Rhine and it is sold out and is in August. I really don't think I will ever do something like that but was interesting to read about it. I can not see me getting on a plane ever again and certainly not in Europe and I don't have a passport any more. So if I ever did a cruise it would be out of Ft. Lauderdale or Miami and I would take a bus to the port. We did all of those cruises so many times that it is not something I think I would do again. But maybe I will check into getting a passport but no hurry to do that. I really do miss cruising and I can't see me doing one on my own. I think that would make me very sad.

Jane, I didn't travel far. Preschool in Oskaloosa is 12 miles from our home. DGD' s house is 3 blocks from pre School. DD's house is about 9 blocks from DGD, then elementary school is across town from daughter close to Wal-Mart. Oskaloosa is not a huge town.
The city has a walking/bike trail around the perimeter of town and I think that trail is about 12 to 15 miles. I have walked most of that trail, they keep adding new parts, but only in 2 mile segments at a time. Daughter won't let me walk there by myself any more, so has been awhile.
