This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share.
***************
Iggy’s flight landed in Tokyo and his Singapore flight takes off in 90 minutes. I woke up an hour ago with a stomach ache, so I checked on his progress.
The temperature has dropped another 5° since I have been up, so it will be a cold one. The Great Miami River is at flood stage so a number of roads around us are closed. It feels like winter and is acting like spring. Mother Nature is confused.
Hopefully, I can fall back asleep. Either way, I will BBL.

Well, I did not fall back asleep so I stripped the bed and am doing sheets, comforter and mattress pad. I jist finished my lackluster workout. I am dragging tail. Speaking of a tail, Iggy wants to get a big dog but since I am the one that will train it, take care of it and take it to the vet that is a no go for me. This may take awhile to agree on what dog to bring home. I need a non shedding dog because of my allergies.
Becky, I used to take Teddy’s collar off while in the house alone so he wouldn’t hook himself on something. Being little he could get under a lot of things. I never met a dog like Scooter that likes her leash so much. Poor Scooter doesn’t want to be left alone with the kitties. I hope you, she and the cats are staying warm inside today.
Kathy, do your scales have regular batteries or the disc batteries? Both my floor scale and the new scale on its way use regular batteries. They are easier to change for me. We are down from 65° yesterday to 19° today. I haven’t even cracked a door open. I am sure after all the rain yesterday everything is frozen.
Linda, I hope your homemade weed killer works. I do the same mixture here. I have always been afraid of Roundup.
Karen, when I say home it would be no travel but I don’t think it is a work from home position. I was thinking that I could apply at Kroger. You get a discount when you work there. It is going to be an early spring clean around here with Iggy gone. The Dream Tapestry is pretty. I have the Romantic Paisley pattern in the cross body and my RFID wristlet wallet. It goes really well with my purple coat. I am glad you are making progress with your foot. Congratulations on Dale’s raise and bonus.
Liz, it must be a busy, busy week. I hope you aren’t there too late tonight.
Hey, the sun just came out. I am going to poke my head out the door and get some sun on my face before it goes away again.

Thanks for the start, Chele. Isn't it amazing how the internet lets us track flights? I had the Flight Aware app that I used a lot while Dale had a traveling job. Used to have to wait for him to call me from an airport to let me know he landed safely. Your temps definitely did drop quickly! It was 73 when we went to bed and 52 when we got up. It's now 47, so we are also on the downward slide. With the potential ice and flooding, definitely a good day for you to stay inside and do some early spring cleaning. Did the tummy settle? I see a lot of people in their 60s and beyond working at grocery stores around here. I had a 78 year old clerk at Publix who was one of the friendliest clerks I have ever had. So you may not just have teenagers as coworkers at Kroger. What do you think you would want to do there? The discount would be nice. The crossbody I replaced was midnight paisley and I have a matching backpack and cosmetic case. I got them all at the VB outlet we have here. They haven't had the RFID versions in store yet that I've seen, which is why I decided to replace what I was using when I got a killer deal online.
Linda, are your weeds dying? Are you still being threatened with rain? Have any of your local weather guessers given any predictions about how hot it will be this summer? Things should be getting busy with baseball spring training coming up very soon. My Giants play their "home" games at Scottsdale Stadium and I think the LA Angels play not far from you in Tempe Diablo. Wish we could spend some time on one of the spring training tours that the Giants organization sponsors. But what would we do with this dog of ours? She would not do well being boarded at this stage of her life, given the meltdown that she had when she was by herself for 5 hours.
Not much going on here. Still waiting for newsletter stuff from the master gardener president. I baked Arya a butternut squash and have a book coming UPS about training fearful dogs that I hope will be helpful, so I should be able to read that this afternoon. I plan to order my whole body vibration therapy (WBVT for short) machine today. I managed to get down the steps last night and I have enough space for it in the workout room where I was hoping it would fit. Getting back up the steps was a different story. I have some visible bruises on the top of my foot, but the entire top of the foot feels bruised. I didn't bandage it to sleep last night and it was a problem when I was laying on my right side and the most painful part of the foot was in contact with the mattress. I am going to try a small pillow with it tonight to see if that will help ease the pain. That's why it hurts to wear a shoe. New Crocs should arrive tomorrow, so fingers crossed that they will be the solution. I should have the entire process down pat for the next surgery.
Waving to the rest of the gang. BBL

Karen, how long until it heals?
33 here with frost all over. unhappy ficus trees.I Had not covered anything as the prediction was not so low. We are six degrees lower than the airport.
Dog decided partway into morning walk that he wanted to go home and burrowed into his bed blanket! DH crawled back under his blankets! I have not seen frost in Feb in the last 20 years.
no predications on summer but Junes have been over 115 for at least a week followed by a lot of 110 and above until mid August, then 100s until October.

Chele, thanks for the start. Sorry for the sleepless night and stomach ache and hope you're feeling better. I would want a smaller dog too if I got one. My BIL's father got a new dog a couple of years ago and she's very large. She was just being playful, but has knocked him over a couple of times, so it's a worry. My floor scale has a disc battery, but it's really easy to change. Funny you should ask since I changed it this morning and thought it had a regular battery, but I guess I was thinking of my previous one. The food scale takes regular batteries. Did you manage to get some sun? It's beautiful here, but a bit warm. Wishing Iggy luck on the interview. Karen, hopefully, the new book will have some useful ideas for helping Arya get over her fear and let you and Dale get out a bit more. The WBVT machine sounds interesting. I keep thinking of those old exercise machines that had the vibrating belts. Maybe they were on to something and just didn't have it quite right yet! This was only a semi-off Friday since I worked half a day from home. DM and I don't usually do the groceries on Fridays, so we'll be doing that tomorrow. Fridays are actually not too different from Saturdays in the local store since I guess the students are stocking up for the weekend parties. Linda, I'm surprised it's so cold there. Can't blame Micki for wanting back in bed. We have a cold front coming in, but I don't think we'll get too cold. It's probably more of a cool front and at least will put us back into the 70s for a couple of days.
Liz, I'm afraid to ask how your week was. Hope you can get home at a decent hour and relax.
Becky, Scooter is unusual about her leash. Maybe she associates it with you and Kenneth being home.

Chele , hope your day improved.
Electrician coming back next week..two switches supposed to work together don't! You turn it off and lights are still on. You have to flip one then the other to make one of them work at all! We thought we were absentmindedly forgetting. nope.
Lost another pound. That makes 3.5 last four weeks.16 to go. DH is joining me finally.

Thanks for the start Chele.I'm glad Iggy arrived in Tokyo.I hope your tummy feels better.I would certainly hold out for a different size dog if I were you since you will be doing the training.Maybe a midsize one to compromise???We have never had to use a leash all the time with a dog before Scooter but it's a long leash which is why I guess she likes it so much.I hope your sun stays out for awhile.
Karen Enjoy your book and I hope your foot feels better soon.I hope you will like the vibration machine.
Kathy You can send your warm weather here.I stepped on the scale this morning and it said Lo battery.Mine is also a disc and I thought I would have to wait until tomorrow to get batteries but this afternoon Kenneth found 2 in a cabinet so I will be able to weigh in the morning.
Our low was 32 this morning and it sleeted a little early this morning and a little more after lunch. It's up to 34 so it's not sticking to the roads.
Yesterday was Scooter's day.Today was Marcie's.Our bedroom door has been sticking and sometimes not closing all the way.One time after Kenneth came out of there evidently it didn't close all the way.I hadn't been in there so I never noticed. He came in the house to warm up from being outside and he noticed it was open a little.I asked him to see if Marcie got in there and he checked and he didn't see her.I then realized I hadn't seen her in a few minutes prior to that.I started calling her and Scooter starts whining and looking for her.I could tell KK was missing her and meowing so I got bundled up and went outside.Marcie was under the ramp leading from the front yard to the screen door.Even though she has thin fur she was having a blast under there and she didn't seem cold so I came back in for a little while.I went out for the 2nd time and she was up in the tree.Every time she came close enough I tried to grab her but I had gloves on and she slipped through my hands and went higher in the tree.I came back in b/c by that time I was really cold and needed coffee to warm up.I drank that and went back out for the 3rd time. She was on the deck and still didn't want to come to me.Somehow I convinced her I just wanted to pet her.She came close enough so I grabbed her and pulled her through the slats of the deck.I get her back in and although Scooter was upset she was outside she runs Marcie all over the house scaring her even more.
All is well fur kid wise finally now but it is very cool in the LR.Our bigger electric heater went out the other day so we are using a smaller one although it seems to put out more heat than the bigger one it is down to 56 in the LR.After my first workout on the bike I ended up changing into my warmest sweat pants,a fleece top and a fleece jacket and I'm under a blanket. We don't have much propane left for the propane heater so Kenneth went to town to get the propane tank filled up so we could use the propane heater without having to worry about running out of propane since it's still going to be cold tomorrow morning.I don't know when we will see the sun again.

Linda, I think I'll get released on Monday, but my GF who had something similar had hers 4 months ago and she still has some swelling. We'll see what the doc says on Monday about how long before this foot is back to normal and then I'll have to go through the same thing with the other foot. Congrats on the loss. What ever you're doing, keep it up. I didn't remember June being so warm for you last year. YIKES!! How does Micki tell you that he wants to go home? Basset hounds just plop down on the ground and refuse to move. It's so prevalent that there is even a term for it: "flat basset".
I guess a semi-off Friday is better than a working Friday, Kathy. I remember those belt vibration machines. The newer ones have vibrating platforms and the vibrations are at a higher amplitude. That was part of the reason that the older machines didn't really work that well. Findings are mixed on weight loss with the new machines, which was the big claim of the belt machines. The newer machines are good for building muscle, bone, etc., which is something I need badly. Interesting that the grocery stores are as crowded on Fridays as they are on Saturdays. You're probably right about students getting ready for weekend parties. Ill bet a lot of them don't even have Friday classes.
Becky, that little Marcie is quite the scamp. Did her little outdoor adventure wear her down any? Keep warm! That's awfully cold for an indoor temperature. I'm glad Kenneth got more propane because you're going to need it. Is the big heater older than the smaller one? I was trying to figure out why the smaller one seems to put out more heat.
Did you get a lot of cleaning done today, Chele? Is Iggy safe and sound in Singapore? How many people are with him on this trip?
Liz, it's finally Friday. I hope you got home at a decent hour.

Karen The bigger heater was older. The one we are using now we had just used every great once in awhile in the kitchen.I think it's just a better heater. We have one of those old Dearborn heaters for propane and we try not to use it more than we have to and we usually don't use it after 9:30 or so until the next morning.Marcie will get out anytime she finds an opportunity. She watches out the kitchen windows for the sun and she sees birds out there and sometimes even makes noises that sounds like a bird when she sees one.Evidently she remembered where her scuttle hole was in the bedroom and took off.We now have it where we can lock the door from both sides. She did sleep most of the afternoon.Right now she is in between my legs and Kit Kat is on my armrest.I told Kenneth if that had happened while it was sleeting today she could have stayed out there and I would have looked for her later.

The late afternoon setting up new printer...went great. printed from my iPad, then turned itself off, lost the wifi connection and after supper I spent two hours trying to resetup, fix, restore...but it refused to even recognize that there was a network anywhere and would not make itself known to the set up app...wouldn't shut off, would not respond to anything, and the touch pad did not have the stuff the troubleshooters said was there. Back in box to go to Amazon tomorrow. Do not buy an HP all-in- one 6978. By the way, I have set up printers before. I have set up a whole computer lab!
