Chele, they've outsourced the exit interview, so supposedly I'll be contacted via email or phone a couple of weeks after my last day. I can fill in those blanks for you! They will work Iggy 'til the end if he lets them, but I know he has pride in his work and will do a good job. My supervisor asked me if I could stay longer to finish one more task. There is always one more task though. I added a few days to put the final day at the 28th and she seemed happy with that. I finished a large task in January, so this really is as good a breaking point as I'll get. The project team has been great, so I wish them well and it's good to leave on a successful project rather than one that was cancelled.
Rain is falling here and it looks dreary outside, but the temperature hasn't dropped that much yet.

Congratulations on well-deserved retirement! Better to leave before you have to and have healh to do things you want to do. You will fund yourself busy and wonder how you ever got things done while working! My favorite thing is rolling over and going back to sleep or staying tucked in with coffee and dig while people rush into traffic half asleep.
My dsil who is vastly overworked and stressed, with health ussues had car accident Friday because she fell asleep, fortunately in a slow zone. She was fine, but the car is older, so it did not take a lot for insurance to declare that. So They had to buy a new one...ouch.

I am glad your DSIL is okay after her accident, Linda. Stress and ill health takes a toll. Unexpected expenses are also stressful.

Becky, you're right that you would stay warmer with central heat, given that you would leave it on when you were away. Don't blame you for shutting everything down when you leave, however. DB/DSIL's house burned to the ground a few years back due to what they believe was a space heater in the garage and one of my nephews was there when it happened. The fire was so hot that the fire marshall was never able to determine the actual cause. So better to be safe. Amazing that you haven't seen the sun in so long. That is so unusual for your part of the country. I hope it will show back up on Tuesday, rather than Thursday, and that your temperatures will begin to moderate.
I saw your retirement coming, Kathy, but not quite so soon. You've been talking about retiring for just about as long as I've known you. Sorry about all the extra paperwork, but you should be able to do it on company time. If it makes you feel any better, I had a ton of it to fill out when I retired, both college and state, and we had an on-site HR department. I also had multiple meetings with them, so maybe you are saving a little time just having to do the paperwork. Hope you can avoid an exit interview; what a waste those usually are. I'm glad you were able to give a relatively short notice. I thought I was doing them a favor by giving a 4 month notice, given my level in the organization, In hindsight, since the man didn't bother to replace me until more than a year later, I wish I had only given a month. Many times I thought, "no good deed goes unpunished". When he did get around to filling the position, she left after about 14 months and the job is still open 8 months later. So another indicator that I got while the getting was good, and I think you have as well. Do you get to cash out your PTO or is it just lost? Amazing that you could no longer get the cartridges for your old HP. There are literally hundreds of different options at Staples, but I guess if the printer is old enough and they don't sell that many, it's no longer cost effective to make them. We had a big HP at the office that we had to scrounge cartridges for from across campus and said that when we ran out of cartridges, we would have to part with it.
Chele, you are having snow again? Your winter seems to be as wet as ours has been. And we have more rain today. They are just determined to get their pound (or five pounds) of flesh from Iggy before they give him the boot aren't they? Typical corporate behavior, which you already know. I think I have that blank filled in fairly accurately. There is no company loyalty any more. Twenty years means nothing these days. I hope even more that the upcoming F2F will go well and that he will be more appreciated, even if the salary isn't as good.
Very sorry about your DSIL, Linda. The car being older is probably what saved her from injury. "Older" probably also translates to paid off, so defintely not a good thing financially. I hope she will be able to manage her stress and health issues so she doesn't end up at further risk. Is she in a position to retire at some point in the near future?
Liz, how are things with you? Are you getting a little R&R this weekend? How is Gary doing and I hope you haven't caught his cold? How's his DM doing?
Rainy Sunday here, and Dale changed his plans to run in the mountains because of sleet and ice predictions. It's been holding at 42 most of the day, so a little too warm for anything but rain in our 'hood (we're a couple thousand feet below where he runs). It's a cold rain though. I did a couple loads of laundry, but for the most part I've been working on an herb workshop that the master gardener president-elect has been bugging me about every time I see him. It will probably be in May or June before I do it because of my surgeries, and it will be a DIY on medicinal salves. I also said I would do a presentation on shiitake mushrooms and need to work that up as well. I'll probably work more on these when I get home tomorrow. I plan to drop off a load of recycling and hit the PO before the doc, do grocery shopping, and stop for sushi on the way home. Foot hasn't been too bad so far today, but it's quite colorful. Anxious to see what the doc has to say.

Karen, good luck with the foot tomorrow. I hope the doc can give you the all clear on exercise. The workshops on salves and shiitakes sound interesting and fun. Probably for the best that Dale did not go to the mountains. Sushi sounds good. When I go to the dentist I will probably stop at the gourmet grocery for sushi since they have a sushi chef on sight. I won’t have to buy bread, though. Becky, how were services and the luncheon and the singing? Did Scooter try to come with you? I would turn all the heaters off as well. I won’t leave the house with any appliance on except for the slow cooker. If I can’t remember turning something off I have to turn around and come home. The snow has stopped and we got a little over an inch. Since it is supposed to rain tomorrow I am not going to sweep it.

Karen, hope you get a good report from the doc! What are the salves you will do a program about?
Anybody remember Cloverine salve? Vermont Country store still sells it!
Dsil has been able to retire for two years but just got $$$ a promotion and really cares about the work. She may get a new director job if they are not bothered by her age, and reduce a lot of the after hours stuff she has been stuck with. She is really the only one in a huge organization that knows what is going in and all the regulations.
Our generation has a lot of dedication and loyalty used but not appreciated by employers looking for cheaper salaries. They mistreat the people that have nade them what they are...like Iggy and Liz and Kathy.
They are not going to get it from younger folks, especially in education where employees get worked to death during the school year with increasing numbers, testing demands, violence and unrealistic goals for poor neighborhoods and no help. They are used as political footballs and burdoned with extra education summers when they need to get a second job because the salary is ten months unless you have the school sit on part of it and earn interest for them nit you. until June.

Thanks Linda! Sorry to hear about your DSIL's car, but glad she is okay.
Karen, I can understand wanting to do a longer notice with your position. I think the longer I stayed on the new contract, the more involved I would be, so it just seemed like a good time to do it. We've been getting a steady rain most of the day. The lawn care people treated the year on Friday, so perfect timing for once. I've been doing laundry here too. Kind of a lazy day.

Kathy That is a long document of tasks to do before you leave.
Chele More snow then turning to sleet? That's a lot of cold weather.I'm sorry they constantly have to overwork Iggy.He has good worth ethics or he would have already filled in the blanks for them I'm sure.
Linda I'm sorry about your DSIL.Yes overwork and stress alone can cause accidents.I'm glad she isn't hurt but having to buy a new car is a pain I know.
Karen When we moved in to this mobile home it came with central air and heat but something happened to it and our renter who was an electrician was going to fix it for free rent one month but like everything else with him it never got done.We won't leave anything on while we are gone except the AC in the summer. We haven't had much rain each day but no sun.You aren't much cooler than we are. It's 44 here but they did say something about a low of 50 in the morning. It would have to warm up to do that.It showered while we were in church and at the luncheon. It's just cloudy now and damp.I don't know what we are going to do with Scooter because she tried to go with us again. We tried leaving her on the front porch but no she had to go in the front yard.Kenneth is getting better at getting out without her though. It seems like the dampness just makes it feel that much colder.I'm glad your foot isn't too bad today.Good luck with the doctor tomorrow.

Good evening chicks, Kathy - Congrats on giving your notice and taking the plunge for retirement. There is a great deal of truth in what Linda had said about we the older generation tending to be loyal and dedicated to our jobs. I do realize that if I dropped over tomorrow they would just go out and find someone for half the price but we can't do it financially now so it's at least a few more years of work for me. I am truly happy for you! Linda - It's amazing how many of the older but good things you can find at the Vermont Country Store. They also have a great selection of Snoopy items . I'm so sorry to hear about your DSIL and the accident but will echo I am glad she wasn't hurt. Although the commute isn't easy by any means, at least I can sleep on the train and be safe generally speaking. I have never had any desire to drive into the city for work. Too long to get home, too much to park and too many crazies on the road every day! Chele - I think we're getting your weather overnight tonight maybe. We didn't get much over the low 20s today but the whole weekend was very sunny. Gary is feeling somewhat better but has been laying low and taking his OTC meds so that's a pretty big tell on how he's been feeling. Barometric pressure must be changing again as all my joints are grumbling. I think we're now supposed to get 3-6 inches Tues. night from the storm that is a fast mover in the west. Becky - how was the luncheon and the singing? I turn most things off every morning before leaving as well. I was witness to a hospital fire from a space heater and the devastation and damage was incredible. It's something I will never forget as I walked the whole facility and took pictures afterwards. How are the fur babies doing? No escapees this weekend? I surely do hope you get to see some sunshine soon! Karen - DMIL is doing better today, her hemoglobin numbers were up some and she was up walking the hallways with the PT tech this morning. I have been tired this weekend but have got most of my basic chores done. My primary wants me to see a Rheumatologist just to rule out that that's what might be going on. Her comment was that the issues I have with my joints are what she sees in her patients who were high level athletes. I had to explain that I did a great deal of physical work in my late 20s and 30s when you never think about what will happen 30 years after that. Just worried about taking too many OTC anti-inflammatories so I picked up some turmeric curcumin and will start that tomorrow. Hoping that will stop some of the chronic inflammation which will help reduce the pain. Glad to hear that the foot is doing better although colorful. I hope the doctor clears you and that you're doing alright after all those things you have planned for tomorrow. The medicinal garden sounds interesting. I hope everyone has a nice evening and good Monday morning. Take care dear ladies! Ciao for now~

Kathy, I second what Linda said about not knowing how you ever had time to work because you will be so busy in retirement. If you remember, I have had to fight the urge to get over-committed. In hindsight, I think 2 months notice would have been more than enough at my former place, especially given the way things turned out. Dale maintains that I should have only given them 2 weeks.
I hope your DSIL isn't one of those people who just can't pull away from the job and they find her dead behind her desk in her 80s, Linda. When I left the college, I had an employee in her early 80s who was one of those people who knew the goings on and the regulations that kept the college out of trouble for about 25 years. The VP forced her to retire a couple of months after I retired. The college will have a state audit coming up soon and this will be the first one without either of us being in charge of any of the records. I'm anxious to see how it goes. My DF and DFIL each worked for the same companies for 35 years. That's not going to happen with the Gen X and younger generations. Can't blame them for not being loyal to a company, given how so many companies view their workforces. It didn't take me long to get out of college with an education degree and figure out that K-12 wasn't the place for me. That's when I got into post-secondary. I tend to steer clear of White Cloverine and similar salves because they are petroleum based. I usually use olive oil as the carrier oil for my salves. It does well at pulling the medicinal constituents out of the herbs, has a 3-4 year shelf life, is very available, and relatively cheap. The salves we make in class will most likely be based on a mixture of comfrey and calendula oils that I make myself and then I will provide participants with a list of essential oils and their uses and they can customize their salves based on what they want to use it for. I'm using one of my salves with tea tree, lavender, and clary sage right now to help heal up my residual wound. Foot permitting, if I can get a little time this week or early next in the kitchen, I would love to make just a jar or two of a salve that reduces scarring.
Becky, it's a shame your guy let you down on fixing your HVAC. How was the luncheon? You're right about the dampness making it feel colder. At least we're just getting rain and not snow. If they are saying your morning low should be 50, that definitely implies the temperature will be rising over night. Good luck getting some warmer weather tomorrow. Do you think Scooter would run off or be in danger if she left your property? Arya has no desire to go outside the house without one of us, and that's just fine.
Be careful with that a.m. commute, Liz, especially if you end up with half a foot of snow. What are they expecting in the city? Good that Gary has been trying to heal over the weekend. True that in our 20s and 30s we never think of how being physically active at a high degree can have negative effects as we age. In fact, we tend to think that it will make things better. Ha! Ha! Good luck with the rheumatologist. It may take up to a month to determine if turmeric is going to work. I got some success for a while from a New Chapter product called XyflamendWhole Body, but I'm tapering off from it now because it doesn't seem to be working as well for me. A water aerobics friend swore that Curcumin with C3 Complex was keeping her from having to undergo another knee replacement. It's all trial and error, I'm afraid. Hope what you got will work well for you.
