This is a thread devoted to those in their 50s & 60s and beyond who don't have children or grandchildren but live rich, full lives. Please feel free to join our stroll thru life and come back often for support and to share. *************** Iggy arrived safely in Singapore. The cap over the root canaled tooth that had a hole drilled in it and then was filled has broken. Fortunately, there is no pain due to root canal. I will have to call dentist on Monday. Once again a tooth problem on a weekend. It never fails. I am one grumpy camper. BBL after my mood improves.

Good morning chicks and thanks for the toothful start Chele. Chele - definite bummer about the root canaled tooth and doesn't always seem these things happen on weekends? Hopefully there will be no pain and you'll be able to get a quick appointment. I think we are having very similar weather, it was 60 earlier in the week and today we will be lucky to see 20 with wind-chills close to 0. I was off a half day yesterday to get to the primary for bloodwork that was long overdue. Needed all my scripts refilled and she and I talked about the arthritis situation and my knee. Glad to hear that Iggy made it to Singapore safely. Sorry to hear that your tummy and head were bothering you. Did you manage to get some sun on your face? Becky - that Marcie certainly is an adventurous kitty! I'm glad you were able to get her back in the house finally. I hope the heater is working and bringing up that very chilly temp in the living room. How has your back been feeling? I am presuming the UTI is all better now? You've been having cold temps also. Linda - congrats on the loss and keep up the great work! It appears that the whole country is dealing with crazy weather patterns and fluctuating temperatures. Did you decide on another printer after all the fits that HP gave you? I need to hook up our printer to the laptop and haven't had the desire to fight it yet . Kathy - nice to know someone is having nice weather. I have dear friends who are down in Disney World and have been having a great time this past week. How was your work week? Mine was back to insanity once again and although it's great to have a new director who is a pretty good gent; the VP is a major PITA! If it's not one thing unfortunately it's another. How is DM doing? Karen - love the avatar and your scarf is fantastic!! Sounds like you're continuing to push that foot a bit young lady!! I'm glad you're making good progress but feet need time to heal It is good that you're learning the pros and cons for the next surgery but let's try not to hurt yourself in the meantime. I am completely ignorant of the vibration machine you've been speaking about and have purchased so I will need to do some reading to better understand. How is Ms. Arya doing? Wally continues to adapt a bit at a time as you've mentioned would happen. He is a love-bug which is very cute. Work has been a bit nutso as you might imagine, full house and lots of sick people. I had 3 days of not getting home until 8:pm+ and it really does catch up with me. Gary's DM was admitted to the hospital on Tues.; she had a mini stroke and was bleeding somewhere internally as her hemoglobin was dropping and she needed at least 3 pints of blood the first 2 days and then was transfused yesterday prior to an endoscopy and colonoscopy. They haven't identified where the bleed was coming from but she was sitting up this morning and eating breakfast which is great to hear. Gary has a cold or bug, so we aren't going near her yet. but have been keeping in touch via phone and text. My SM informed my sis that SB is going to court to declare bankruptcy and is going to lose his house which is frankly no surprise to me at all. I have no idea what they are going to do as they have horses and I presume will need to sell them or give them to a sanctuary. I think the family drama for me has just reached ridiculous proportions and even DS has been acting very selfish and snotty <sigh>. The gel shot has kicked in somewhat I believe as the knee although painful on the medial side is handling walking better. I actually did my normal commute 3 days this past week which was a big deal for me. Unfortunately somewhere along the way of my commute on Tues. I lost my monthly train/subway pass. Went nuts trying to backtrack and find it but long story short, ended up having to buy a new one. A VERY EXPENSIVE mistake to say the least!! Well dear ladies, I hope you all have a safe day and keep warm! Gary is up and I'm going to fix him some breakfast. Ciao for now~

Chele, they always make us get a cap on a root canal. Hope it is ok until dentist. Glad Iggy got there safely and hope his back isn't irritated.
Liz, wow. your family is having a hard week. Hope the knee shot works well.
I did send for an older model, inexpensive Canon. We shall see..the new one was great for one printing then died! Lost its ability to connect, even going back to reinstall! it would not even shut off! tried all the internet suggestions. The diagnostic tool would not open on my up to date Laptop. We mostly use a brother simple laser printer, but sometimes I like color and usually use inkjet as a copier.

Thanks for the start, Chele. How did I miss your dental issue? Is this the one you just had done a couple of months ago that also occurred on a weekend? I'm glad you aren't having pain but why do these things always have to happen on the weekends? I wonder if we need to start a chain of emergency dental clinics that are only open on weekends. Somebody has probably already thought of that. Good news on Iggy's safe arrival. Did you say he would be there 2 1/2 weeks? That's a long time! Will this most likely be his last trip for this company?
Linda, sorry about your printer woes, but thanks for the warning on the HP. I really need to replace my 10 year old HP D110 that works about half the time and could never get the wireless to work in the new house. I'll be crossing that model off my list. What will you replace it with? The ink cartridges for the HPs are so easy to find, but not cheap. In-laws had a Dell and I remember those cartridges being more expensive and more difficult to find.
Were you and yours toasty in the chilly weather last night, Becky? I have to say that our house really retains the heat, which is a good thing this time of year. We opened windows when we had temps close to 80 the other day and kept so much heat in that the furnace didn't kick on until about 2 this morning. Don't forget to put batteries for your scale on the shopping list. It's good that Kenneth found some of the right ones so you could use the scale. Mine doesn't have a low battery indicator and just dies. Are all the critters behaving so far today?
Liz, I'm so sorry you lost your travel pass. I know those are not cheap. I hope you were almost to the end of your month and it wasn't just renewed last week. Is this the first time this has happened in all your commuting years? Also sorry to hear about DS's reaction to all the family drama. From what you have said in the past, I'm not surprised about SB's financial situation but hate they will have to rehome the horses. So SM isn't going to step in and bail him out? That's a bit of a surprise. I'm glad Wally is a cuddle bug. That softens some of the other issues you have been working through with him. You haven't mentioned any escapes lately, so has that settled? Hate that Gary isn't feeling well but probably best to stay away from his DM's hospital bed for the time being and I hope they can pinpoint what's going on with her. Sounds similar to something that happened to a friend's DF and they never could figure out where the bleeding was coming from and then it just stopped. Good that the shot seems to be helping the knee. Are you still wearing your mega brace? Being off my feet has really settled my knee down a bunch and, yes, I know it's best to stay off the foot but that is becoming increasingly more difficult. Arya is making little bits of progress every week. I almost got to work on her dewclaws this morning that are like lancets because they don't get filed down on walks like the rest of her nails. Phoebe had the same problem but she let me cut them. It takes both of us to use the Presto Paws, and cutting them is out of the question because she actually wails and flails as soon as she sees the clippers. Another bad past experience that we don't know about. The vibration machines are pretty cool. Mine isn't officially purchased yet because we are still waiting for the email from AmEx to approve the purchase. Don't know what the hold up is on that, but I guess it's not a huge deal because I won't be able to use it until sometime in March when the other foot is healed. There's a lot of info on the website of the brand I'm getting, which is Vibe Plate. They are out of Nebraska, so built in the USA.
How crazy was the grocery store, Kathy? I hope you are enjoying good weather, even if you had to put up with hordes of students. And you should be getting the spring break crowds starting in the next few weeks. Lucky you (not)!! You are away from most of the tourist attractions though, aren't you? So may not be terrible. Was the week better since you were only doing your job? How are things going so far with the new contract?
Dale is out running the neighborhood and Arya and I are hanging out. I took the bandaid off over my stitches and the steri-strips also came off and there are no stitches left. Very tender and still a bit swollen. Scar looks about like I expected so I will start using my signature herbal salve to get healed and then make an herbal salve specifically for the scarring. I got my new Crocs yesterday and I apparently ordered the size I currently wear, instead of getting a size larger. I'll keep the new ones because they are a little different style and the toe box is slightly larger. I needed to replace a pair I have just about worn out anyway, but ordered another pair in the correct larger size so I'll be ready come the next surgery. About the only thing of any consequence I have done today is get together some of the recycling that has been piling up since I haven't been able to make it to the recycling center since before surgery. I hope to take a load on Monday when I also have my surgery follow-up #2. I need to stop at the PO to mail a birthday present to a GF and will have to venture to Kroger (horror of horrors) for a few things I can only find there. One of the benefits to going all that way to Osteo is that I have grocery store choices on the way home that are much better for my lifestyle than what I have locally.
Happy Weekend, Chicks!

Thanks for the start Chele.I'm glad Iggy arrived safely in Singapore.I am glad your tooth doesn't hurt.I don't know why these things always happen on the weekends when offices are closed.
Liz That sounds awfully cold to me.We got up to 80 one day this week so these temps have been a rude awakening especially with no sun for over a week.Did your primary give you any solutions for the arthritis and your knee? The gas heater is working but we leave it off while we are gone so now it's back up to 60.Marcie as little as she weighs is laying on my legs on top of my blanket and is keeping my legs nice and warm.My upper back bothers me every day but I have known I had a curved spine and arthritis in my spine for many years.Yes thankfully the UTI is gone.I hate you have to work so many hours.I'm also sorry about Gary's DM.I hope they can find where the bleeding is coming from.Unfortunately it seems like there is some drama in all families but I'm sorry your DS is acting selfish now.I'm glad the gel injection is helping some. What a bummer on having to buy a new pass.
Karen I think if we had central heating it would be a lot warmer in here but with having to rely on portable electric heaters and gas heaters which we have to shut off every time we go somewhere it tends to be a little cooler. The scale didn't give me much of a notice. It showed one weight and came up LO on it.Those batteries Kenneth found makes it work fine. The batteries came with the food scale so I'm good there.I was hoping Scooter would want to stay in the house this morning while we went grocery shopping but no she wanted in the yard and did try to get out but we made it to the car without her.Marcie was in the house when we got home.Take it easy with your foot going to the doctor and grocery shopping on Monday.
Waves to Kathy and Linda.

Liz, I figured you had a rough week. Oh, no, in losing your transit pass. That is an exoenskve replacement. I am sorry to near MIL is ill. I hope they can find out what is wrong quickly. I also hope Gary gets well soon. I am sure ne would like to visit DM. I hate to hear SB has to file bankruptcy and has to give up the horses. I hope DS works through whatever it is she is being snotty about. It sounds like the knee is showing a little improvement. I hope it continues to improve. Give the pups a hug for me.
Becky, your furry little friends sure keep things lively. That Marcie is a little escape artist. Did you get any sun today? It is cold but the sun is out so that makes it better. I hope you are feeling warmer today.
Linda, your perseverance paid off. Congrats on the loss. Planning your meals is working for you. We never could get our old HP printer to work wirelessly. We had to print everything from a wired laptop. We have an Epson printer now.
Kathy, how was the store today? I hope you are having a stress free day in the sun.
Karen, I am glad you like your new Crocs even if you will have to wait until the swelling goes down to wear them. I hope the larger size arrives soon. What do you put in the salve to help with the scarring? You didnāt miss the dental issue, it just happened ladt night. Yes, it is the same tooth I had a problem with over Thanksgiving. There is a place around here called Immediadent that is open on Saturday but I donāt know anything about them.
I havenāt really started the spring cleaning yet. I got my workout in and did more laundry. I made myself a nice Salade Nicoise for lunch. Now I am just going to put my feet up and watch the Good Wife without any interruptions. Have a great Saturday.

You look at reviews on Amazon, and over half like a printer, another quarter so so ,and a quarter to third hate it on almost every one under $200.
I decided to go cheap, with something over 4000 people had already bought. An older one might still work with my old Mac laptop which cannot update system any more.Lot of people writing either reviews were replacing one in the MX series that they had liked and worn out. This is it..about $40! Fungers crossed.

I had to use Bob's new one to set up the printer I just sent back that had great magazine reviews...except instead of 6970 it is now 6978....one wonders if the newer model changed. Amazon would not let me write a review saying they had reached their limit! hmmm.
We also had a D110 for years, which did connect and I could scan directly to my laptop. It started to say it had cartiage jam constantly after one page...maybe I just should have cleaned off the slide rail.
I thought about this one...keeping it bookmarked.

Chele, thanks for the start. Glad to hear Iggy arrived safely. Sorry about the dental problem and I agree that this stuff always seems to happen on the weekend. I hope you continue not to have any pain from it.
I have big changes coming up! After dithering on this for what seems like forever, I gave my notice at work and my last day will be the 28th. Three more Smondays and 14 more work days to go! It's still sinking in and doesn't seem quite real yet.
Liz, good to hear from you. Oh no on losing your transit pass and I know stuff like that just adds to the stress. Our nice weather disappeared today. It looked nice this morning, but then clouded up and a front is coming through. It was only around 70 when we went to the store. DM and I managed to get caught in a quick downpour when we were coming out of the store and then of course, it quit once we were in the car. Your friends picked a great weather week for Disney since I don't think we had any rain all week until now. My coworker returned, but went out sick again later in the week. This is really unusual for her, so I'm a bit worried about her. Sorry you're dealing with so much family drama and hope Gary's DM recovers quickly and that Gary's cold clears up soon. That's great that the gel shot is helping.
Linda, I have a Canon MX series that I got pretty cheap 3 or 4 years ago. It's still working, but I haven't tried to go wireless with it since I got a new PC. My old PC had problems recognizing it after awhile so I wound up just using the direct connection. I was having lots of network issues with the old computer, so I don't think it was related to the printer. It goes through ink cartridges fairly quickly, but probably no different than any of the others. Hope you have good luck with yours. Congrats on the loss!
Karen, I had an old HP that I could no longer find cartridges for. It's a shame since it worked fine, but it was just a plain printer without scanning or any other features. My newer one has more features, but it sure does eat ink. The grocery store was pretty normal today, crowded, but not crazy. Spring break is actually quieter here since the students are mostly gone and traffic is lighter. I'm a long way from the attractions and not close to the beach. Listen to Liz and try and stay off the foot as much as you can! I know it's hard when you're normally so active.
Becky, I tried to send some sun to you, but ours disappeared! We're going up and down in temps this week, but it's not going to get too cold. Hope it warms up where you are soon. Enjoy the church luncheon and singing tomorrow.

Kathy Wow on your surprise to give your notice at work.Do you have any idea what you want to do or are you thinking of some kind of business from home?I don't blame you with the new contract and having to take over for your co-worker.I do hope she is okay.I appreciate the offer to send your sunshine but somebody must have decided to send it somewhere else.We have been watching the local weather and they are saying we may see sun as early as Tuesday instead of Thursday and it looks like the high for Thursday is in the low 70's.Since it's 38 right now that sounds good to me.Enjoy your Sunday.I hope you are very relieved with your work decision.

Becky, I've been thinking of retiring for quite awhile and with the new contract, it felt like it was a good time to do it before I got too involved in the new work. The co-worker was back when I gave my notice, but then she went out again at the end of the week. I hope she's okay too. I think she's recovering from the flu, so maybe just came back too soon. Hope you get your sun back on Tuesday.

Thanks Becky and Chele! Yes, it will take awhile to get used to the idea. My first hurdle is getting through the 13 page document our corporate HR sent me with tasks I have to do before leaving. We no longer have a local HR staff which is kind of sad and also makes things more difficult since everything has to be done remotely.

Thereās always paperwork, Kathy. They didnāt bother me with an exit interview. I think the regional HR rep didnāt care.
The snow is falling right now. We might get an inch before it turns to sleet. They are overworking Iggy in Singapore and he is incapable of not doing a good job. I told him to tell them ... well, you fill in the blank. Whatever job he gets has got to be better than how they are treating him after 20 years.
