• Appreciate your food. Start your meal by taking a moment to express your gratitude for the food in front of you.
• Breathe. Before and during your meal, consciously take a few deep breaths.
And be sure to listen for "the sigh."
For me appreciation of my food means a table prayer. How about you?
Have you experienced the sigh? It tells you that you have had enough food and that you're satisfied.
I don't take conscious breaths, but I do try to watch for when I sigh.

• Appreciate your food. Start your meal by taking a moment to express your gratitude for the food in front of you. I say a blessing before eating. There's one for each category of food: protein, breads, grains that aren't breaks (like rice, etc., but also for cookies and the like), fruits that grow on trees, things that grow on a vine, veggies that grow in the ground (carrots, potatoes, etc.)...
• Breathe. Before and during your meal, consciously take a few deep breaths. I'm not sure if I do this before a meal, but I certainly do check for the "sigh" and pay attention to it (that is, I stop eating) (well, most of the time I stop eating; tonight, there were only two small spoonfuls of soup left in my bowl and I was consciously made the decision to finish the soup).

I used to say a prayer. I often think of where the food comes from and give thanks for what is before me and those who worked to provide it. I don't always remember, though.
The sigh...hmm...I have experienced it from time to time but don't listen for it or always recognize it...need to work on that more.

I wish that I had raised my children to say a prayer before meals when they were growing up, I didn't & that is my bad. Now, DIL & DS make GS say blessing before every meal. It is a beautiful & sweet thing.
Don't know about the sigh.

Bev, do you mean you aren't aware of what the "sigh" signifies? Or do you mean that you don't notice it or don't quite pay attention to it, or something like that? Or do you mean something completely different?

For me appreciation of my food means a table prayer. How about you? Growing up, we always said a prayer before eating. Somehow, I have gotten out of the habit of saying one when I am alone. Thanks for the reminder. I will work on getting that back into my daily life.
Have you experienced the sigh? Getting better at this. This last weekend, I left food on my plate, because I felt full and satisfied. I did eat the last 2 bites of something I had left in the pan when I was cleaning up because it seemed to be too much trouble to put so little food into the fridge as a leftover.

I don't say a blessing each time that I eat, but I am thankful for the food, for the people who grew the food, all involved. (My immediate family didn't say a prayer before meals, but some extended family did. I am comfortable with either tradition, but...again, I try to be aware and thankful, with a specific prayer or not.
Not sure I can say I specifically focus on breathing, but sure trying to focus on mindfulness. Just yesterday, I put a half a serving of my supper in the fridge, realizing I had reached a point of satisfaction.

Trying to take moments throughout the day to reflect on my thankfulness. Sometimes at meals, sometimes at red lights. This keeps me mindful and thankful.
Have a great afternoon. Keep smiling as well as warm.
