Hello,
I am 34, male, 5'9", 250lbs. My last blood work showed high cholestrol levels, my physician told me I need to lose around 30 lbs and lower my cholestrol or else I will be put on cholestrol medication.
My question is: from your experience, how would I expect WW to affect my cholestrol level?
PS: You don't have to be a doctor to answer this, I am looking for real life experiences and not necessarily a medical advice.
Thanks! Tamoora

Welcome tamoora.I had to go on cholesterol meds years ago. However losing weight and eating healthy did lower mine significantly.I am now on 1/2 tablet at night and my readings are much better.

Thanks Becky, this is great news. I will join today Any tweeks you made to accomodate the high cholestrol? I did some research online and it seems like they had a "core plan" in the past. But when I called they told me this doesn't exist anymore, only points system.

There is a Simply Filling technique that took the place of Core.
When I lost 50 lbs. on WW, my already high cholesterol went up 50 points. I had to go on a statin drug. Everyone is different, so there's no way to predict how the WW plan will affect your health status.

I wasn't on medication for high cholesterol, but I was headed that way. Losing the weight did lower my cholesterol and prevented me from needing the medication. However, sometimes these things are hereditary. With the high blood pressure I was able to reduce the amount of medication I was taking, but not eliminate it entirely. My mother, who also has high blood pressure, has been slender her entire life and yet she is on medication as well.

As others have said, losing weight doesn't guarantee that your cholesterol will drop. My cholesterol has always been good regardless of my weight, my DH needs cholesterol drugs and he has never been overweight.
If your cholesterol is sensitive to your weight change, and if your cholesterol is affected by dietary cholesterol, following WW might help if you choose your foods properly. You won't know until you give it a try.
