This thread is for anyone that has been away from healthy eating, had a gain and is recommitting. We accept all forms of healthy eating here, whatever that means to you. We touch base daily for accountability and to encourage one another. This is a judgment free zone.
We all struggle to get the weight off and keep it off. Sometimes this is a challenge, but we never give up and that is the key. Regardless of our situation or where we are in reaching our goal, we count on talking to each other every day and are blessed to have one another as friends.
Our motto is persistence, not perfection.

Good morning everyone! Well, we slept a little later today. I need to make a quick run to the grocery in a little bit. Just a few things that they either didn't have, I forgot to put on the list from Sunday. Other than that, no firm plans (as usual...Ha). DH is WFH today, and those days I usually try not to do too much banging around. With the all wood floors and also the wooden vaulted ceiling in the main room, it gets loud and echoy quickly so I try to keep it quiet when he's working. Susie - <smacking my forehead> I didn't even thing to search amazon for the actual Norwex products. Ha! I just typed "dryer balls" into the search bar and skimmed what came back. Lol. I need to check on the crystal deodorant. Boy I love that stuff and I'm almost out of the all natural (aluminum free) Tom's that I've been using for awhile now. Lorelei - I make my dogs food in batches that last about 10 days. I freeze it in individual 1/2 servings. I use a 1/2 cup measuring cup to portion it out and freeze them all. It's kind of a "puck" shape, so hence the name

Good morning Lora and everyone to stop in later,
Feeling tired this morning - ran to the grocery store after going out to dinner. I wasn't out late but I think it was just the absence of quiet, alone time at home. I'll get that this evening. Then some kind of precipitation will roll in. We're expecting some snow and ice I think. I hope it's enough for a snow day but I'm not sure we'll be that lucky!
Anyway - lots to do - busy busy as always. I'll try to pop in later!

Just back from a quick run to the DG and my tiny local grocery. We're set until the weekend now (I think...Lol). I know I said I wasn't going to do a weather report, but 34 degrees and rain? Brrrrrrrrrrr! Amanda - the more time I spend in the quiet of my own home (and head) the more I think I enjoy it. Ha! I'm glad you'll get your down time this evening, I know it's important to your frame of mind. Oh...we just got a text from our agent and we got a cash offer on the ATL house. It's totally a lowball offer. If we hadn't of spent the money on the upgrades, I think we'd have at least entertained this number, but as it stands it's about 25K short of our rock bottom price. We'll counter when we receive the formal offer, but I'm guessing it won't go anywhere. I think it's one of those "we buy it and turn it into rental/lease property" companies...those seem to be a trend in ATL right now.

Good morning/afternoon.
I got back from NC late yesterday. No really NEW news with my DS. She isn't really any better and she really isn't any worse.
I have my appointment today with plastic surgeon to see what and if I am able to get the things done I wanted to get done this year. I have already used some of my vacation for this year so I am not sure what I will and will not be able to do.
Possibility of snow here tonight.
New pup is adorable. I enjoyed all the puppy snuggles last night when I got home. I didn't get to play with her long before I got ready for bed. I still need to unpack, etc.

Jana - I think at this point, DS "not any worse" is actually a positive, I mean with the way things have gone for her over the last month of so. Can't wait to see some puppy pics. How are Mr. Zeke and the other pups doing with a new bouncy baby in the house? Lol Good luck with your appt. I hope you get good info and can get it worked out. Or at least know that it is something on the horizon to look forward to and work towards.

Good afternoon all. Well, I definitely got DD's cold, took Mucinex this morning and I feel like I'm in a desert, can't get enough water. Definitely not feeling wonderful today. I did go to PT though and then to work. DD is on her way back to CO, and YDGD (youngest darling granddaughter, Lorelei had croup last night, scared her parents to death but is apparently fine today, went to the doctor. Never a dull moment when little kids are involved. My kids both had croup as children and it is pretty alarming to see. No plans this evening - the gym will just have to wait, I know I'll want to be in my sweats and relaxing at home tonight. DN and I finished watching Frankie and Grace last night - so sorry we're all caught up. The show makes me laugh and I love both Jane Fonda and Lily Tomlin. It was 18 degrees here this morning but at least the sun is shining! More snow tomorrow but hopefully not a big storm. I'm surprised my staff haven't started hassling me. Sorry you're having more rain and freezing temps, Lora. So much for the sunny south! Jana, glad the new pup is a cutie. Are your DPs still in NC? Hope you get some good news soon about DSister's recovery.

Andi - awww, I'm so sorry you're suffering with the crud. Mucinex always did help with my stuffiness and drainage, but seems like I had to about drown myself to not feel like a piece of dried up jerky. There's just no in-between there. I told DH this morning that the state should be indebted to us. For years here they've had intermittent drought conditions. But as soon as we took up residence the rain started flowing, You're Welcome Alabama! Haha! Honestly, they just issued a county wide flood warning. The lake and river are already high due to the almost constant rain we've had this winter. They are concerned that if we get as much as predicted over the next couple of days, it could get be problematic. Of course, we do have the lock and dam system just a few miles down river from here, so they could relieve water if necessary I suppose, but that just allows it to flow to other areas that are probably in the same situation as here. Honestly, I really don't know how all that works. All I know is that my house isn't in any danger of flooding. There are some advantages to living at the top.

HI ROs...first of all...I am reposting my message from last night (since we went to the second page, but mine was the only post on it):
Andi - IF you move after retiring, and especially if it is a new neighborhood being constructed, you will instantly have new friends! And you are right=joining a synagogue would also offer lots of new connections.
Lorelei - sounds like you had the kind of day Andi had, but each day is new and you already know that...sounds like you have everything in line for tomorrow. I grew up in western Maryland (Cumberland- up in the mountains) and have lots of relatives in MD...I had some cousins that lived on the Magothy River. norwex.com can explain the product line better than I can....
AND speaking of norwex..... Lora after you mentioned Amazon, I went online and checked it out and they have norwex products that are about HALF the price and Free shipping with prime.....man, I am glad you mentioned that! ___________________________________________________________________________________________________
NOW FOR TODAY: Up early to and my 7:15 gym class, then to Tap Dancing, then to a Dr appt to see if I need to just schedule sugery for my "trigger finger." I scheduled surgery for next week, then realized that I have just too much going on (duh), so I have called and am waiting for a call back so I can reschedule it for March. I have book club tonight (unless it starts that snow, sleet, whatever that you were talking about AMANDA.
Lora - oh yuck for the low-ball offer...I think sometimes people just do that, just to see what you will counter. AS much as I sometimes hated our steep driveway in the old house, I always felt pretty good being on the hill so all the rain would just run right down into the street. We are actually at the top of our street here too.
Jana - I agree with Lora about DS AND that, hopefully, you can get some good news from the DR about what you can have done. You do so much for everyone else, I hope something good works out for you. Man, I want a puppy to snuggle... I just don't dare do anything like that now...too much just keeping up with DH's schedule, etc.
Andi - cold here too, but sunny...hope I make it to book club tonight before the bad weather hits. Sorry about the cold. I am almost afraid to say it, but so far so good for me this year with all that ...and DGC have ALL been sick A LOT!
OK... I forgot that I need to stop by the library today and pick up a book that I have on HOLD, so I guess I will do that now while the sun is still shining.

Good evening (morning),
I don't know if this is the right place to ask this, but I have a question for you wonderful peeps. I'm a boring eater and have the same thing everyday, mostly, but it guarantees I stay within my points allocation for the day and it's easier with my schedule. However, I have been contemplating eating 'better' and swapping out foods lately. My only concern is that I would have extra points in the day to eat. Have you guys swapped out foods? And if you did, what did you do to make up for the extra points in your day? Did you eat more pointy snacks? Or was it not worth the swap at all? What I'm eating is not exactly bad, they're just higher in points and I'm sure there are healthier options out there (reduce calorie bread vs honey wheat, mashed cauliflower vs mashed potatoes, etc). I'm just not sure what to do here.
Lora - I'm just gonna say that I'm jealous of your wood floors. There's carpet in the place I'm renting from and I hate it. I'm contemplating asking the landlord if I can change the flooring if I give them the money up front to put new carpet in when I move out. There are 3 cats in my house (2 are mine, 1 is my brother's) and the amount of fur and dander that the carpet collects, despite my awesome vacuum, is terrible. My nieces are highly allergic to cats and can't come over. Even if I vacuum 15 times and they take a Benadryl. It sucks. Congrats on the offer on your house, even though it's a lowball. Hopefully that's the ice breaker and you'll start to get more offers closer to what you're asking for.
Amanda - I'll keep my fingers crossed for a snow day for you! You should totally make a snow man if you get one.
Jana - I think I agree with Lora that "not any worse" is a great thing. I know I haven't been here long, but it sounds like things have been tumultuous with your DS lately. And new puppy?! How fun!!
Andi - It's terrible that you're feeling the ick, but at least you're getting your water in.....? I guess that can be considered on the positive side. Thanks for the definition on that abbreviation, though. I would have been absolutely lost with that one. Ha ha ha ha!!
Susie - Magothy River... I'm vaguely familiar with that area. It's near Kent Island, which has great crabbing. I looked up norwex and I have to say that I'm impressed. I think I'm going to purchase some things from them. Like the dryer balls. I don't use dryer sheets now, so that would be an added plus to my laundry routine.
Oh yeah, tomorrow if my first official meeting. Fingers crossed it doesn't make me cry.

Lorelei, do you want to give us a typical food day for you and then we can make suggestions? A couple of people here are still doing WW. I had to abandon the plan when they gave fewer daily and weekly points and provided the list of "free" foods. If I could handle free foods, I wouldn't need WW or anything else, and I would game the system so I could eat more unhealthy items. It just didn't work for me, triggered really bad binge eating cycles that destroyed my soul (OK, that's a little over dramatic but you get the idea). But I had seen on Connect that a lot of people are successful, and both Amanda and Susie follow the plan. Susie's been at goal weight for years now.

Oh, no problem!
Breakfast - Quaker oatmeal and a banana. ((usually those instant oatmeal pouches)) Lunch - Lettuce, tomato, spinach, white American cheese, fat free ham, mustard on honey wheat bread and one of those lunch sized baked chip bags. Dinner - Vege of some sort (usually Brussel sprouts), a cup of Idahoan potatoes, and a chicken breast. Snacks - Hard boiled eggs.
I do have a change in menu every other Sunday (I cook a big meal for my police officers), but otherwise that's literally my daily menu.
I wanted to swap out the bread, the potatoes, and the cheese. The potatoes alone are more than half my daily allotment, so I'm thinking I shouldn't be eating so much of them. Ha ha.

Lorelei, Like Andi, I no longer follow WW. I had weight loss success with WW, but it got me caught up in a vicious cycle of constant hunger and cravings followed by binge eating behavior then back on plan for more hunger and cravings. I got to goal, but I just couldn't maintain and had to find something else to work for me. I do have a few suggestions though for the replacements you're looking for, if any of these sound like they might work for you. For the bread, maybe try a low carb wrap/tortilla or a lettuce wrap. Either would probably cost you a lot less points and leave more available for more delicious sandwich filling...which is the best part anyway For the mashed potatoes, I'd maybe try a seasoned riced cauliflower or cauliflower mash. Also anything like green beans, asparagus, squash, spinach or even a baked sweet potato would be more nutrient dense and keep you satisfied longer than the mashed potatoes and probably cost you less points. For the cheese...well, that's a little harder. I love cheese and would have a hard time replacing it in my own life. Haha. If you're eating it on your sandwich, maybe try a whipped cream cheese spread or something like that. The chive or the veggie flavored ones are great with sandwich type meat. The creaminess has a nice "mouth feel" and they also offer a great flavor punch as well. I'm not sure if any of these options will work for you, but I just thought I'd share, just in case they might.

Lorelei, I'd second Lora's suggestions while also encouraging you to have protein at all your meals. So for breakfast, add an egg, or cottage cheese with your banana, or turkey sausage. I'd also use a less refined kind of oats - I know the packets are convenient but they are pulverized into tiny bits and can really spike your blood sugar. Even the 1 Minute oats would be better and they cook quickly in the microwave.
For lunch I'd again focus on getting in more protein and vegetables and skip the chips - add a salad or roasted vegetables. Some fat also helps. I know it's pointy in WW but I think you can have 1 and 1/2 ounces of avocado for 2 points. Also for your bread instead of the cheese, Laughing Cow makes all sorts of spreadable cheeses - they are little triangles and come in a round box, generally not refrigerated. One point each so you get a bit of a cheese hit for few points. I remember that people also like PB2, a form of dried, defatted PB which you can also get in chocolate flavor. Very low points and you can have it on one of the low carb options Lora mentioned, or light toast.
Dinner, again mix it up with the vegetables. Almost all of them are zero points and they're super filling and tasty if you roast with a little olive oil spray, salt and pepper. A baked potato has fewer points than sweet potato and definitely fewer points than mashed potatoes - do you think you could try that instead?
There are a couple of great WW-friendly websites: Skinnytaste.com was one of my favorites. I think emilybites is another one. If you go on Connect, you can ask questions and get lots of resources. Definitely a good idea to change up your food a bit, focusing on more protein, veggies, and whole (not processed) foods. Hope I didn't just overwhelm you with a lot of suggestions!
