This thread is for anyone that has been away from healthy eating, had a gain and is recommitting. We accept all forms of healthy eating here, whatever that means to you. We touch base daily for accountability and to encourage one another. This is a judgment free zone.
We all struggle to get the weight off and keep it off. Sometimes this is a challenge, but we never give up and that is the key. Regardless of our situation or where we are in reaching our goal, we count on talking to each other every day and are blessed to have one another as friends.
Our motto is persistence, not perfection.

It's 2:30 am Central time...guess who's been awake for an hour? I don't feel tired, just frustrated that I'm not sleeping when I should be. But I didn't want to keep tossing and turning and wake up DH. So I'm up and coffee is brewing. I supposed the cold weather is moving in a predicted. I keep hearing the heater cut on, and it hadn't done turned on at all for several days. Okay, my weather app says it's currently 42. So not terrible, but by mid week we're supposed to have lows in the 20s...Brrrrrrrrr!
Andi - I did my first meditation yesterday. I used a stop watch on my phone and just did it until I could no longer focus on my breathing, it was 6 minutes. DD says she uses guided meditation, and likes that better. She gave me the name of a phone app she uses that gives you the option of guided or not. I haven't downloaded it yet though. Right now I'm just going to try it on my own, and see how that works out. Enjoy your day! Did you say it was opera and dinner?
Susie - have you shopped Aldi before? It's not my favorite place, and I certainly can't do all of my shopping there. But they do have a few things that I really, really like and for the most part the prices can't be beat. They also have an interesting section of household items (or as we call it in the biz, general merchandise...Lol) pots & pans, closet racks, dog blankets...it's an eclectic section and changes constantly, but I always like walking through that section to see what they have. Oh...and at least here, they don't use grocery bags, so you would want to make sure that you bring your own from home. I almost always forget. Ha! But last time I was in DHs car and luckily he had a bunch of plastic grocery bags that he was taking to the recycle bin at Kroger, but hadn't dropped off yet, so I just squished a few in my pockets. Also, the pretty much have the best prices on coffee, and all of it I've tried is quite good. They don't carry many national brands, most of the brands you've never heard of, but I haven't had any problems with quality in anything I've tried.
I have no idea what our plans are for the day. I guess we'll just be winging it. Although I would like to try to grocery shop if possible, so I don't have to go next week when the real cold returns. Well, I think the coffee is ready. Maybe I'll try to meditate before I pour that first cup. BBL

Hi Everyone,
Nothing really exciting planned-the usual errands-sigh!
Tommorow my sisters and I are planning to go to this movie/show about Barnum the guy who started the Barnum circus. We are planning to eat dinner out afterwards but the weather forecast could change that. It depends on the timing of when it will start. Since we have a good hour drive home that would make a difference.
Andi,congrats on your loss!
Cassie is a hot mess! I have been looking for a latch to keep her out of my cabinet. Havent found one yet but someone told me where I might be able to find one. For now a heavier rubberband across the two knobs seems to do and is certainly cheap and easily replaceable but her trying to scratch at or bite it is a concern so still may buy if reasonable cost.
Cassie also seems to be sneezing less. 😀That is good. They told me (I think too late) that she had this condition but it was probably be related to being in a shelter but it might go away once she was not under stress from being in the shelter. Of course there is no guarantee that another cat from a shelter wouldnt have the same condition. I thought getting a younger cat was a better option than getting an older cat.
I only had 5 kids yesterday due to the weather but I am not looking forward to Monday as I am getting two new boys. I havent even seen one boy yet but I know that one of them is on the young side as I was sitting there next to the parent during my break as she was filling out forms. The other parent asked me if I worked at this other center. Apparently her older son used to go there. I didnt see her long enough to ask her anything else.
I hope if Amanda is reading this that her trip to Disney will be great.

Good morning, all. Lora, I always do guided meditations, should have said that. Everyone's mind wanders and the guided ones help bring you back and often give you something meaningful to take into your day. As I mentioned, the Insight Timer app has free meditations, many of which are guided, and you can choose the length of time you want to sit. I personally find 10 minutes perfect, and hopefully with time I can learn to sit for longer. It almost doesn't matter what you do during those 10 minutes - the important thing is to make it a habit and begin to train your mind that every day there will be quiet time. The one I'm doing now, Monique Rhodes, says that at the moment you realize your mind has wandered and you bring it back to your breath is a moment when you are truly present, and is a gift. Being present is what we're shooting for. So glad you took the plunge but sorry about the disrupted sleep. It's so hard to break out of those sleepless cycles!
My PT yesterday was wonderful and I feel absolutely fine again this morning. I love that moist heating pad! Plus there are stretches he does with me that give me complete relief. If I could just figure out a way to do those at home - he'll be setting up a home program for me when I go next Tuesday. I was pretty uncomfortable both Thursday and Friday until he worked with me - too much sitting and then crazy running up and down stairs in the city carrying my huge backpack.
I was kind of in a state in the afternoon yesterday when DSon told me they were ordering in from a sushi place for dinner last night, would I be able to get the food I need,and then resentment that I can't just fit in and do what everyone does. But I went online and found their menu and used the old Lora technique of making a meal out of appetizers: I got eggplant in miso sauce, cold steamed spinach, steamed broccoli (it was on the menu as sauteed but I asked for it steamed), and sashimi. So perfectly compliant meal in the end but I did stress about this whole program - sometimes it just seems so impossibly hard and wearing. Lora, how do you keep keto fresh and interesting? I just felt so tired of it all yesterday but reminded myself that these feelings don't last, that I felt even more tired plus a layer of despair and self-loathing that were immensely painful when I was overeating and in my binge thing, and that no matter what I do it takes work. And then got a good night's sleep and feel upbeat and strengthened this morning. Susie, you too, how do you keep up your motivation, both with WW and the gym?
So, today is opera day in the afternoon. It's snowing pretty heavily right now and there's an inch or two already on the ground but it's supposed to stop by noon. I just went out for a minute and it's pretty wet so I think I'll be able to get out to the supermarket this morning if that's what I decide to do. We'll have dinner out someplace afterward. We're due for another snow storm tomorrow night - I'm supposed to meet friends about an hour away for dinner, hope the snow won't start until after.
Time for me to go meditate now. Will bbl.

Good morning Janet, Andi and ATF,
Well surprisingly the sun is out for the moment. I'm not sure how long this will last today, but the birds singing sounds lovely.
Janet - I hope you get all of your errands taken care of today, so that you can spend tomorrow exactly the way you want to.
Andi - I just finished a guided meditation and it was super relaxing and fun. I found a website called Meditation for Geeks....Haha. I did a 10 minute based on Harry Potter, where it walked you through creating your own Patronis Charm. If you're not familiar with H.P. that creates your protective spirit animal. This meditation lead you through relaxing, creating the patronis and then knowing that you could reconjure it at any time and it would chase away any feelings of negativity, stress, fear, whatever...all through the day. It really was super relaxing, and also kind of fun. I'm not sure I'll continue with that particular site, but it was a fun way to start. Haha.
As for how I keep our food choices interesting and how we not get bored...I'm not sure. We just really do enjoy the things we eat. Right now, since we're really budgeting pretty strictly, we have less variety than ever, but we've yet to get tired of or bored with our options. Right now I probably have about 12 "go to" meals. Sometimes we eat a couple more frequently than others, but eventually we'll rotate on to something else in the routine. I'm looking forward to selling the other house and we'll have more options then. I've really been missing our lamb shoulder chops that had become a staple item. They're just slightly out of the $ per meal budget that I've set, so I'm trying to stick with that and know that eventually I'll be enjoying a wider variety of foods again.

Good Morning All...the evening was enjoyable...fortunately we started early (around 4:00) so everyone was gone by about 8:30 or so and DH and I got to sit and talk with YDD and her DBF for awhile. It will be very difficult for them as he has accepted a job in CA so they will be at complete opposite ends of the country. They have already figured out ways to see one another twice month until October...possibly by then DD will be applying for a job there as well.
DH was up early and off to a men's breakfast. I am baking a breakfast casserole, and have a fruit tray ready for the rest of us. It would not surprise me if we ate nothing though since they may not get up til 9 or 10 and we plan to leave here at 11 to head into Richmond for a lunch reservation.
I sort of tried a meditation awhile back, but I didn't realize it was guided and couldn't figure out what was going on...so with all this talk I tried to just quietly and focus on breathing for a minute or two - ha...I think I could fall asleep doing it - lol
OK ...just heard the coffee finish, and I am ready for it

Janet, you must have snuck in while I was writing my earlier post. We're having a lot of snow here ourselves and I haven't even looked at the forecast for Sunday night and Monday. Sorry Cassie is such a creative thinker but I would imagine you can get really good door locks from any store that sells kid supplies. My kids have all kinds of latches on their kitchen cabinets to make sure the kids don't get into dangerous things.
Lora, I wasn't meaning so much about how to keep the food interesting. I don't really have an issue with that. It's more in social situations of having to be different, stick with something that isn't mainstream and that no one else is doing. It's like I'm wondering how to keep the commitment up when the world is pushing against us...

I got interrupted so now I missed Susie's post when doing mine. Glad you got some alone time with DD. Those geographic separations are so hard. I know you will be unhappy if DD lives on the other side of the country - you'll have to join me in those long flights - it's hard to be so far away, to have them so far away. I guess Boston has given you some practice. It must be lovely having them stay with you.

Lora - sorry about the early morning. I have actually shopped at Aldi several times - there are several food items I like there (some GF things, DH's bread) AND I have bought several of the general merchandise things. However, when they finish the building across the highway from us, I'm sure I will shop there quite often...between there and the Publix that I can walk to I will be able to get pretty much everything I need. Of course, we will still make our occasional stops at COSTCO.
Andi - so glad you were able to find things that you can eat on the menu. Did I mention that DD has become a vegetarian? So... in my breakfast casserole this morning I excluded any bacon, ham, sausage, etc (which we really like, but it will still be delicious I'm sure).
As far as staying grounded with eating... I really just try to be conscious of what I am eating...have my special coffee every morning (and often that serves as breakfast), try to drink plenty of water (a REAL challenge for me), plenty of fruit and veggies... If I could stop the night eating, I could lose that extra 5 lbs I would love to get rid of - lol!
Janet - sure hope these new boys are easy for you!! I used to do that rubberband trick on the cabinets to keep my DGC out -- I have a feeling Cassie will be more determined though - ha - Have fun tomorrow with your DSs

Good morning.
My couple of days off turned into pretty stress filled. After my massage got cancelled on Thursday I found out my DS is septic again and back in ICU. I was pretty upset after that. Talked to the nurses at the hospital and her Dr. Once again things are not looking well for her.
I ended up taking some anxiety meds, taking a nap and then more retail therapy. At some point in the very near future I will be heading back to NC.
No real plans today.

We're about to head out. We're going to take a walk on the paved trail around the lake, just to get some fresh air and some outdoors time while the wet stuff has stopped for a bit, and then head to the grocery stores. The lake path is on the way, so it works out great. It's not at all a hike, definitely a walk, but like I said, we get to enjoy being by the lake and we get some steps in. Oh Andi - I'm sorry, I totally misunderstood your question. Well, right now we don't have that many social engagements or restraint visits...Lol. But before we moved, every single day at work I faced challenges and temptation. And honestly, I just tried to give myself a little pep talk if I was even considering straying. "You know just one bite of that can send you reeling. Remember the joint pain, the tight clothes, the shame and humiliation of binge eating, and think of how much better you feel now. Is it worth it? " The answer was always NO. For restaurant stuff, just give yourself a minute to study the menu. There's most likely something on there you can eat. Even if it's only one appetizer, would I die if I wasn't stuffed full? Of course not. I would eat what I could and then supplement when I got home if necessary. There were also a couple of time when there was actually nothing I could find available that would work for my plan, so I would just tell everyone I was fine with water, and that I was having a fasting day. Then treat myself to something deliciously keto when I got home. I mean, I just reminded myself that I was really there for the company, it's okay not to eat even if everyone else is. I got a few strange looks, but I already had a reputation for becoming what my friends and work folks considered an "eccentric eater", and that was fine with me. Keto definitely solved any peer pressure problems I had. Haha Susie - enjoy your family time. Man, even on the weekends you are a blur  Awesome that you already like ALDI and are getting one so close to you! Mine is about 17 miles away....but then, so is everything else. haha Jana - keeping you, DS, DBIL, DH and everyone else in my thoughts. Janet - Cassie sounds like a little rascal. |

This morning with YDD and her DBF was great and lunch with them in the city was wonderful. We will pick them up tomorrow and have lunch again and then take them to the airport....we will see them again at Easter.

We had a lovely 2 mile walk by the lake. It was mostly overcast, but the temps were ok and the wind wasn't blowing. I put some pics up on FB, we saw lots of water birds today. We had a successful and quick grocery shop. Had to go to WM for a couple of things, then picked the rest up at Aldi, then home for lunch and some relaxation. I found a couple of interesting flavored coffees at Aldi that I bought home to try. One is a Bourbon flavored coffee the other is Maple Bacon flavored. I'm drinking a mug of the bourbon coffee now. I don't know that it actually tastes like bourbon, but it is very smooth and almost kind of vanilla bean like, maybe. I'm not sure, but it's fragrant and quite good. I'm probably wrecking my sleep for tonight. haha. Oh well.
Susie - aww. it sounds like a lovely day with YDD and her BF. I know you and DH are loving that.
I'm hoping my DD will be able to come for a visit soon. Her and DSIL are working up a new client for the business, and between that and her time that she works at the yoga studio she hasn't had a lot of free days. But they should have the business account settled soon, so when that happens she and her dog will be coming to stay for a few days. I can't wait to spend time with both of them. I think Lily enjoys having Merlin here too. He's such a sweet boy.

Lora, I can't believe you were up so early. And had coffee too. I always try to go back to sleep when that happens, but maybe it works for me because I always get up once or twice a night. Glad you got that walk in.
Andi, good that you made up a meal for yourself. I like Sashimi, so adding those veggies is even better. If they ever are ordering from Italian, most of the time you can get grilled chicken cutlets, and broccoli raab or escarole. Some of the places here also have something called chicken bruschetta, and I ask them to grill the chicken, the bruschetta does have oil in it, but that is something you should really have.
Jana, so sorry to hear about the news about your DS, hope they figure out what to do for her soon.
Susie, sounds like you are enjoying your visit with your DD. Sorry that the DBF is moving to CA, but if they can make it work, and she ends up deciding to move there too, who knows.
I am having a very busy day today. We had snow during the night, about 3 inches, and I didn't want to beg off temple this morning because the president's daughter was having her Bat Mitzvah, and I was invited to the luncheon, which was a mad house, but I went anyway. Then did errands, shopping, a Bed Bath & Beyond trip to get refills for the soda stream, plus their Keurig coffee pods were on sale, and they let you use a coupon, which I have an endless supply of. I also had to do some shoveling at my DM's house because it is back on the market and she is having an open house tomorrow, so I at least wanted to partially clear the driveway and walk. I am sure it might melt, but I am leaving early enough tomorrow that I don't want to find out that it didn't melt. I still have to pack, even though it's only 2 nights, I do need clothes!
As far as meditation goes, that is why I like to go to temple at night for the short service. It's only 15 minutes, and because it is Hebrew, which I can read but can't understand, I realized it is like meditating. I especially like the Friday night, which although it is 45 minutes, there is more singing.

Good evening all. Had a really nice day today. The snow finally stopped and we went to the opera which for a change was a comedy and very welcome. No blood and death in this one. Then we went for a really early dinner and I had swordfish, a side salad and steamed broccoli. Perfect. then I went to the supermarket and stocked up on veggies for the week, will do some cooking tomorrow. I'm supposed to meet friends for dinner tomorrow night but am watching the approaching snow storm and am uncertain if I will make it.
Robin, bruschetta is served on bread or toast, right? I don't eat sugar or flour so that one is out; the oil isn't the problem. Yes, I've navigated most ethnicities pretty well but Japanese presents certain issues... I miss Friday night services and the music so much! The one temple near me, relatively (25 minutes away) starts services at 6 during the winter and there is no way I can get there at that hour. So I haven't joined and I guess I'm thinking I won't be able to join anyplace until I retire and can fit it into my schedule. Oh the singing, love it so much. And I understand Hebrew even though the prayers are in an archaic version of the language.
Jana, thinking of you. So worrisome.
Lora, I love looking at water birds, especially in winter. Really enjoyed seeing your pix and sounds like you had such a nice walk. It will be wonderful having DD visit for a few days, with DDog.
