Happy Monday, welcome to the start of a new week. Another article from the WW site, with ideas for planning for food for a road trip. www.weightwatchers.com/us/m/cms/article/create-road-trip-food-menuSuggestions include breakfast items that are ready to eat in the morning (such as overnight oatmeal), non-messy lunch ideas and snack options. Do you take driving vacations/trips? Do you pack food to take along? Is there a destination you'd like to travel to by car?

We don't travel a lot, but even on shorter trips (it's a couple of hours to drive to visit family where I grew up), we take some snacks, water, etc along.
It would be more than a day trip, but I'd like to visit the Black Hills area of South Dakota.
The hint of popcorn as a good road trip snack reminded me of an idea that someone posted on the old WW sponsored message boards. She would make a bag of microwave popcorn before she left work to eat as she drove home so she was not famished when she got home and would make better choices for supper.

First, I'd like to thank you ladies who sent me good wishes for DH's recovery. He's doing well.
Second, I spend a lot of time in the car. I tutor kids all over the county. I always have food packed to take along, always. We went to the hospital Thursday (DH was supposed to check in at 6am; we arrived at 5:45, but that's another story) and I was prepared with items for breakfast, lunch and supper, plus snacks galore...
It's Sunday night and I'm tired. More tomorrow.

Holly Gail, I missed your post about your husband and the hospital/surgery. Sending positive healing thoughts your direction!
Do you take driving vacations/trips? No...Lebanon is small and I have not really gone on a vacation in YEARS.
Do you pack food to take along? Not usually...the tendency is to buy when hungry wherever we find ourselves...if we travel.
Is there a destination you'd like to travel to by car? I would love to travel through Europe or the USA or even Canada by car...or train. By train there are a lot of long journeys I think would be fun...one train goes all the way to China through a great bit of Russia. Wish the Orient Express was still open, too.

Most of my trips are shorter ones now, like out to Great Falls to see my daughters. It's about a 7 hour trip. Sometimes I pack a lunch, sometimes I grab a sandwich at the gas station that is about half way, and sometimes I eat at a cafe.
My girls and I would like to take a trip this late summer out to the west coast (Seattle) and drive down highway 101 to California, then back through wine country. We haven't made any detailed plans yet, but it is on our list of things to do.

DH & I used to take lots of road trips. I almost always packed us a lunch & snacks. When the kids were young, I packed enough food to feed an army. We could ill afford to feed all of us on the road.
Nowdays, we are older & DH can't drive long distances like he used to. We will be driving down to Orlando next month. It is our annual trip. It is about a 10 or 11 hr drive, we always stop half way. We stay at the same hotel every time. There is a nice restaurant there that we enjoy, also an outlet shopping mall right behind the hotel.
I would love to get in the car and drive all the way to the west coast. I would like to stop at the Grand Canyon (which I have never seen, except from the air), I would love to see all the roadside attractions along the way. But alas, I don't guess we will ever feel like making the trip.

When we lived in TX, we’d make the 18 hr trip and would make stops along the way for eating and stretching. We don’t take lots of snacks in the car. We do take water in the car.
