How do you define self-care?

Its up to me to get what I require for optimum wellness/fulfillment - nourishment, exercise, grooming, enjoyment, autonomy and collaboration. Making me a top priority takes work because when things go sideways (as they sometimes do) I can fall to the lower rungs of the ladder. WIP

Right now self care means I should not be watching news, like, at all! But generally, I think self care means putting your self first - not in a selfish way but more like I cannot be of service/help to others if I'm firing on all cylinders. I think self care relates to us in our WLJs because I've read a lot of posts in the past from folks who have ended up with a weight problem because they're always focusing on others - children, spouse, parents, work, etc. It's interesting to read here when someone like that comes along, because the act of putting oneself first seems almost like a revelation sometimes, at least that's what I've noticed in the past. I think it's easier to work on someone else, than it is to work on yourself. So putting yourself first - even if it's so you can be at your best to help others - is difficult for some people because we're programmed, socially, that putting yourself first is somehow selfish. But I think it depends on how you put yourself first, if that makes sense. If I am healthy, eating right, exercising, and losing weight and feeling good about myself, I also have more energy to put towards others.
I also think not engaging in self care can be an avoidance tactic to allow one to say, "oh I just don't have enough time to exercise or eat right because I'm so busy helping my kids, spouse, parents, relatives, etc."

Well me losing weight and maintain my weight I consider self-care. Learning about better eating and working on getting in exercise I also consider self-care. Right now taking care of my stress is high on my list of self-care.

Self care for me is continuing Curves and walk when I can while taking care of my knee as well. Also continuing to eat mostly healthy so I can continue to be healthy. My main focus right now is being healthy and not gaining back my weight.

I agree with all of the above. Self care is truly about being and staying healthy through paying attention to what I eat and how much I move. If you cannot take care of yourself, it is hard to take care of others.
