Yea ! The island grocery store is open today and you can go pick out 1 veggie for your month long stay on the island. Remember, it won't go bad over the month, but you can only have 1. Which will you choose ?

My first instinct is to say asparagus, because I love it, but it's not very versatile. So I will come back in the morning with what I decide on overnight.

It turns out I couldn't find the red (belly-dance) veil I wanted to wear today (Sunday), so I switched to all black. As a result, I wore two green "Mardi Gras" type necklaces around my neck, a very old green necklace wrapped around my wrist, and a green (although not a Kelly green) head covering, so I did wear green for St. Patrick's Day...
As for Monday's thread: I must say I don't particularly like this island grocery store... It's rarely open, and even when it is, it doesn't carry much in the way of produce, does it...
I eat a green salad very nearly every single day here at home (and having said that, I realize I didn't today, Sunday...), so maybe romaine lettuce to make a salad... If I think of anything else, tomorrow is Monday...

If the island has wild edibles year round then I think I might opt for potatoes as they provide a base for so many good meals. If the island does NOT have wild edibles then I would probably opt for spinach...it is healthier than lettuce...though we also need cruciferous vegetables and...Is there a rainbow vegetable out there?
Seriously, though...I said beans for protein (or chickens that give eggs) and citrus for the fruit (no scurvy) so am thinking the spinach or greens make more sense than the potato since there is starch in the beans.

A veggie I use a lot is green beans. Sugar snap peas are a little more versatile as they can be eaten either raw or cooked. I guess I'd go for the peas.

Gosh, I don't know, probably potatoes ,(everything is 0 pts, right?). I think potatoes would be more satisfying than any other vegetable that I can think of. I sure hope there are wild greens to eat on the island. I did take a hot plate, but I don't know if I have a pot to cook in. That could be a real problem.

Holly, It's a very small island with a very small store.
Overnight and after reading people's answers, I decided on cabbage. I could cook it, shred it, eat it raw. It's funny, but when I first started thinking of veggies, I didn't think of leaf greens.
Tomorrow, we are heading back over there again, so see you then.

My vegetable choice would be broccoli.

Hey, Pam. On Guy's Grocery Games (on Food Network) the other night, someone made pesto using the stems of the broccoli. I hadn't ever thought of doing that but it was a hit with the judges on the show.

Hi all - long day today - busy work day and then it seemed like every little thing I needed to take care of this afternoon took longer than planned! (but, nothing serious and plenty to be thankful and grateful as I took my 5 minutes to re-think the day!)
But, I think it has all left my imagination a bit lacking - I think I will go for corn, just because it's a favorite...no logical reason at all.
