Being a vegetarian makes it difficult to choose the best protein sources Is this true? If you consume dairy, what about eggs? cheese? (yes, reduced fat or fat-free cheeses are both on the market) soy products? (a lot of my friends eat tofu and tempeh) When WW was Weight Watchers, there were brochures for vegetarians; you can ask at your meeting (workshop) if any are still available. It's not impossible to find good protein sources; beans (currently zero points!) come to mind. There are terrific recipes for black bean burgers; Cathy ( cathygeha , ) is a great source for some! As a matter of fact, she follows a mostly vegetarian diet and dabbles in vegan choices as well; perhaps she'll chime in with additional options for you!Holly - in the thread with vegetarian/vegan recipes I just added a few that are make-your-own with many variables to make burgers...take a look

I don't wanna go into details) but I eat reduced-fat cheese. Sometimes, I also eat beans (and also sprouts) but most of the times for my protein I eat peas and nuts. That is why, I was saying that it is difficult to choose protein sources. Also, I eat yogurt.

mackenzie , Being vegetarian it is not difficult to meet 100% of your body's nutritional needs since animal products of eggs, milk and cheese are still okay to eat.
Being vegan can be trickier as no animal products are eaten. Here are a couple of websites with information:
Thank you Cathy, I will surely check out all of them and I hope I can learn a lot from these sites about proper nutritional vegetarian diet.

most of the times for my protein I eat peas and nuts Peas? for protein? 8 grams of protein in 1 cup of peas; is a serving of 8 grams of protein sufficient? Just for the sake of comparison, I googled protein in chicken breast; 3 oz of chicken breast = more than 25 grams of protein...

I do not eat eggs because I don't consider them vegetarian friendly (because I saw a video of poultry.... I don't wanna go into details) What about cage-free eggs (eggs from cage-free chickens)? (not that I'm pushing eggs, mind you; I'm just pointing out that not all eggs come from poultry that are "farmed")?

We had chickens for awhile. We let them run during the day and tucked them in at night. It was sad when varmints came and killed them or when they got sick or had prolapse or other issues and died. Hubby wanted them to eat but they became friends so no eating of them happened and then the males would peck one another to death so that was rather horrible, too. We did best with five hens and no rooster but still was a big responsibility and time consuming. The eggs from those hens were delicious.

I am getting a legume I really like frozen shelled edamame with lots of protein delivered later this morning. And the vegetable sweet potatoes are being delivered too. I have apples for fruit. and oatmeal and rye bread for grains. Thats dr. Barnards perfect plate. I start over today. Did gain 5 pounds in 2 days not being Vegan. I will steam the potatoes and edamame together in my microwave steamer. My stomach hurts when I eat junk which I did before and the last 2 days. I feel it because it feels so right to eat Vegan. I gained 5 pounds over the last 2 days. but in 5 or 6 hours my delivery will come and I will be set. I will eat 3 apples today as dr. Barnard suggested. And more of the vegetable sweet potatoes. I do less whole grains. Oatmeal and Rye toast with a tablespoon of sugar free jam. I am trying not to add fat or sugar. But edamame naturally contains fat. but 0 points. It is filled with good minerals. I don't get as much fiber from edamame but I do with whole grains sweet potato and apples. I am excited.
