I love to tell what happened to me when I went plant-based. I weighed 308 lbs, blood pressure was very high, pre-diabetic, high cholesterol, arthritic knees, chronic low back pain. I was on 4 different meds: 2 for blood pressure, 1 for pre-diabetes, and 1 for cholesterol. Plus taking advil to manage the knee and back pain. I was 53 years old at the time, and hated how I looked but hated how I felt even more.
Tired of being tired, I turned to Dr. Google, and that led me to Dr. McDougall's website. I said to myself, let me do this for 30 days and see what happens. Within 2 weeks, much to my cardiologist's surprise, I was off all of my meds --- I'm not kidding --- and by the end of the 30 days I knew I was going to be plant-based for the rest of my life. That was 8 years ago. I got down to 240 lbs, and for me that was amazing. My ultimate goal is to get below 160 lbs.
But I've been stuck, and due to family concerns I started eating lots of fat and sugar filled foods back in July 2019. By Christmas I weighed 275 lbs.
I'm determined to get back down to 240, and to get below 160 lbs.
Eating plant-based is good, but it's no guarantee for a healthy weight if you're indulging in all the vegan treats and frying foods in oil instead of water. And so I'm here. But in spite of the weight gain, I still don't need meds. Blood pressure is holding at 135/80, cholesterol is good, and my HgA1C (measure of glucose over a 3 month period) holds at a perfectly normal level of 5.0 --- all thanks to eating plant-based.

I will eat lightly salted peanuts and apples. I am starting over eating tomorrow. These are the cheapest food for me.
