Thanks for the start, Chele. Not extremely sore today, but I did put on my "magic jammies" after dinner and left the electric mattress pad on low all night. I think it helped. Do you make traditional egg-based pasta, or did you use semolina flour or wheat flour? If I make it to first contact, I will be almost 111. Despite my healthy diet, probably not going to make that momentus occasion. Zefram Cochrane is either in Kindergarten or won't be born for 11 years, depending upon whether you believe the novel or the movie version. Kathy, my Publix only had about 4 kinds of Praeger's. I got a box of California and a box of Black Bean/Quinoa. They had a nice selection at Whole Foods the other day but, of course, they weren't BOGO. One of the ones they had at Publix was high protein, but there were only 2 burgers for the same prices as 4 of the other varieties. I wold love to try the Tex Mex, Mushroom Risotto, and Korean burgers. First day of grocery ads here is Wednesday, so by Thursday, they have things pretty much set. What day will be your new grocery day? I wish I had noticed the Capri Blend was on sale yesterday to stock up. I got a nice selection at WF the other day so I stocked up there, but most were regular price. I'm not surprised that Publix made good on the shelf price, even though it was last week's sale. It pays to be attentive. Good luck with the decluttering efforts. I did the same as you with cleaning out for a move. But we were in the last house for 23 years. WOW! on 90 this early in the spring, Becky. How hot was it when you walked yesterday? That breeze from Wednesday would have felt really good. Cortisone seems to be one of those hit or miss things. They usually worked for me, but that's one of the reasons I think I developed osteoporosis because I had quite a few of them back in my running days. How is your knee doing today? I hope your insurance approval comes through quickly so you can get some relief. Linda, the bird of paradise is really pretty. I don't think we could grow them here, outdoors anyway. Always reminds me of that old song, "May the bird of paradise fly up your nose." I hope the weather doesn't get too warm by May 7th so you can get your door finished. What kind of Italian did you have for dinner last night? Guess what day it is, Liz. Do they all pretty much run together? What's going on with DS these days? Is SM still as cantankerous as she has been? Anything special for the weekend? I decided to finish the newsletter without anything from the president (deadline was Wednesday). So, of course, as soon as I was ready to proofread, she sent stuff. So I had to go back and reformat. I just got it finished and shipped. We have a cloudy morning and had rain earlier. Dale planted 2 new fruit salad trees yesterday, so they got a good watering. I have to do the big dinner cook for Arya tomorrow, so I think I'll take today to read. Not in the mood for yoga this morning and I keep seeing the same episodes repeated, so I am going to work this weekend on going back to developing my own practice. I did that after I retired. I did use the rowing machine and the Vibe. We may be able to go out on kayaks tomorrow. That would be nice.

Karen, we are not SF geeks, are we? I include Kathy because she loves Dr Who. Have either of you seen Babylon 5 or Far Side? Both are TV series and very entertaining SF. In the Zo I have made the pasta with semolina flour. The mushroom risotto burger is very good. I haven’t tried the bi bim bap burger yet or the pollack burger. I know what you mean about repeating episodes. I just do whatever exercises feel good at the moment, some strength, some flexibility, some yoga, some pilates. I get bored easily with the same moves. I have to ask. What is a fruit salad tree?
Kathy, are you into the whole “if it doesn’t being you joy, get rid of it” movement of decluttering? There is a documentary on Netflix about Marie Kondo and this is her mantra, but it has been around for years from her books. I am more of a “have I used/worn this in the past 1-2 years?” kind of thinker. I am not profound, just practical.
Becky, I hope the cortisone gives you some relief until you can get the gel shots. How has Kenneth been? Is he doing alright?
Linda, how are you feeling today?
Liz, I hope it is not another late Friday.
I did laundry and worked out and prepped for dinner. I still need to put the laundry away but blech! It is cloudy and mid-50s and we had rain earlier. I think I will find a movie to watch this afternoon.

Chele, thanks for the start and the fun fact. My dad, sister, and I were glued to the tv every evening when they showed the Star Trek reruns. My DM was not amused since we were sometimes eating our dinner on tv trays. Dad set a bad example, lol. I also remember seeing the Star Trek movie The Wrath of Khan with a bunch of people from work when I worked at the Johnson Space Center. It was a total geekfest. I watched some of Babylon 5, but I don't think I've seen the whole series. I also watched Battlestar Galactica and its prequel Caprica, but I don't think I've seen Far Side. What was it about? The X Files is one of my all time favorites for SF shows. I read the Tidying Up book when it came out, but admit that I haven't applied much of it. I do like her concept of cleaning out by category instead of location. She recommends cleaning out all of your clothes, books, or whatever instead of just cleaning out a closet or bookcase. The only thing is I'm afraid if I dumped all my clothes out on the floor, I wouldn't finish the task and they would stay there for who knows how long! I think the rule on whether or not you've used it in the past 1 or 2 years is a good one too. I think of the sparking joy idea when I'm looking at things that aren't useful like decorations or memorabilia. If you haven't read her book, I found it unintentionally laugh at loud funny in some places. Some of it may have been the way it translated from Japanese to English. Karen, glad you're not too sore. Those jammies must really be magic! My Publix doesn't have a big selection on the Praeger burgers either and I would love to try the Tex Mex one. I also got the Black Bean one. The pollock ones were by the frozen seafood, so that was a surprise to see them there. We haven't settled on a new shopping day yet. The way the crowds and traffic are there, I'm almost thinking the weekend would be just as easy. I wish I had more freezer space since I'd stock up more on those veggies too. I'm also wondering what a fruit salad tree is! I was woken up my Mother Nature this morning with a big kaboom right at sunrise. We had quite the storm and are supposed to get more for the next few days. I think summer is trying to crowd out spring. Hope you get to go out in the kayak.
Waving to Liz, Linda, and Becky.

Chele, I'm just a geek in general. Being baseball season now, when you said something about being an SF geek, I immediately thought San Francisco, and it took me a minute to figure out that you meant sci fi. I have seen some of Babylon 5 but don't think I have seen the entire series. I don't remember Far Side. How long ago was it on? I need to try to find the mushroom risotto Praeger burger. Maybe next WF trip. Is semolina flour finer than wheat flour? I don't think I have ever worked with it. The official name for the fruit salad tree is a Combination Fruit Tree. The nursery will take a tree and graft 2 or 3 branches onto it from different kinds of fruit trees. We got one in 2015 that got mangled by a deer but it is coming back, so we hope it will set fruit this year. We decided to get a couple more this year that are peach, plum and nectarine. I think you asked the other day if Dale was going to work part time for the summer or permanently and the answer is permanently. He started working part time for a start up last fall and it's going well enough that they said they want him up to 20 hours a week starting some time in July or August. He seems to like the projects better than at his FT job, where they offered him a supervisor's position and he turned it down, only to have them have staff reporting to him with no extra pay (isn't that a supervisory job??). Between my pension, social security, what he will have coming in, and our investments, we think we should be able to make it work. He also plans to start playing his hammered dulcimer at special events, so that will be a little more money. We have Battlestar Gallactica on DVD, Kathy, and it's Dale's favorite to watch while he's on the bike or treadmill in the workout room. We also watched Caprica. Did you watch the new X-Files episodes they made last year? I will have to look in the frozen fish section to see if they have the pollock ones. Your storm was way worse than ours. We did get about 1/2 inch of rain, but it was quiet. I think it should make 6 servings, but the recipe said 4. I ate it right after I made it, so I know it will be even better once it has sat in the fridge for a day or so. I made a really good sessame-noodle salad for lunch. It called for soba noodles and I didn't have any so I subbed the Barilla Protein Plus Spaghetti and it came out good. I think it should make 6 servings, but the recipe said 4. I ate it right after I made it, so I know it will be even better once it has sat in the fridge for a day or so. www.godairyfree.org/recipes/pasta/cold-sesame-noodles-vegan-gluten-free-nut-free. Giants are playing their season home opener this afternoon.

Of course, I got the name wrong. It is Far Scape not Far Side. An American astronaut gets caught in a wormhole and ends up in a galaxy far, far away on an alien ship full of fugitives. The ship is a living creature as well.
Karen, yes, I would say if you have people reporting to you you are in a supervisory position and should be paid more. Job satisfaction is no little thing, so if Dale enjoys the work in the part time position that is great. Playing the dulcimer will be rewarding as well. I love soba noodles. I will have to take a look at that recipe. Enjoy the game.
Kathy, I would never survive cleaning out by category. I need one space to tidy up then move on to the next space. I was a big fan of the X files bit never could get into Battlestar Gallactica. My DB and one if the boys loved it, though. Neither of my parents were into SF.

Karen, sounds like they're trying to get away with one on Dale and the supervisory position. Working part time at a job he likes and playing the dulcimer sounds better for Dale. Playing an instrument again is on my long list of things I want to do, but I haven't decided which instrument. The oboe takes so much commitment and there's the darn reeds which are expensive even if you make them yourself. I really do need to do something with mine at some point though. I watched the new X Files and thought it was pretty good. I liked the 2nd season better than the 1st. The noodles sound good. Thanks for the recipe link.
Chele, I thought Battlestar Gallactica was slow moving and I'm pretty sure I missed quite a few episodes. The overall story was interesting though. I remember Farscape, but never got into it for some reason. My DS and DBIL liked it. I'm with you on cleaning out by space and not category for most things. I would wind up with piles of all of my categories and a bigger mess than I have now!

Thanks for the start Chele.
Karen I wish I had some magic jammies. It was 92 in Austin yesterday. So far it's only made it to 82.We watched the noon news and he said unfortunately there would be no sun this afternoon but would be cloudy the rest of the day. When I walked out the door to go for my walk the sun was out and it was warm and humid. We were expecting rain and possible storms the whole weekend but I think maybe just until noon tomorrow now which would be nice because Kenneth wants to go to a memorial service for a man he worked with years ago and if it's pouring down rain we won't go.It's in Taylor. However we could use 2 days of slow steady rain.It was 88 when I walked yesterday. My knees feel somewhat better but it hurts more in the back of my right knee which it also did before I got the cortisone shots.I think that's why he told me to be sure and tell them he wanted standing x-rays instead of me laying on their table.I'm sorry you had to reformat the newsletter.
Chele I'm definitely not a SF geek.I have never gotten into any of that.Kenneth is doing okay.He always has his aches and pains from his stroke which unfortunately won't ever go away.He was so tired from our trip yesterday too and having to wait so long.He is used to getting an afternoon nap and he didn't get one yesterday.
Waves to Linda,Liz and Kathy.

Been a SF geek since seventh grade when I started reading Asimov and Heinlein. Star Trek fan from minute one. Also Star Wars.I miss having weiters do soace ooera. Si much in that book section us vampires and fantasy niw. Loved those cheesey 1950s movies. I taught a SF lit class in NY and in AZ. I have been to a few conventions. I wrote a novel in J Lichtenberg's Sime Gen series in the 1980s,fan material, not published. I have one of my own I play with on and off. It will never get done, I don't have the discipline. I go to sleep every night listening to CJ Cherryh's Foreigner series audio books, I know the books so I do not have to listen that hard and the narrator's voice soothes me. Funny thing..cannot get into the Dr. , but I loved Torchwood. I read a lot of women SF writers these days like Elizabeth Moon. Got tired of the male, space wars, endless conflict stuff. Geeky enough?
we cannot open windows here after all the tree pollen which is still high after two months of it. That el nino is still producing rain. Since we are in the upper 80s, the AC comes on in afternoon. supposed to hot 95 and 96 Monday and Tuesday but not stay.
Picked up photos at Costco before crazy Sat. Then med at Walgreens and bananas and daffodils at Safeway. I have to take the second med with food...bananas are easy. The UTI med will probably bring back the other problem. yuck. getting cranky from that irritation,
Did a LOT of laundry, some bedding, some left over from trip...boy two people can create a lot of stuffto wash. I got the photos into the Canada album...a record...same day picked up! Tonight is leftovers, either last night's restaurant Italian or the rest of the French onion chicken casserole.
