New week, new thread!
I watched WHAT THEY HAD, Judy. Loved Blythe Danner as the woman with Alzheimers, Hilary Swank as her daughter, Michael Shannon as her son. I kept thinking I had seen Swank's daughter in the film before. It is Taissa Farmiga, Vera Farmiga's (UP IN THE AIR) younger sister. There were 7 children, and Taissa is 21 years younger than Vera, Her parents were already 51 and 45 years old respectively when they had Taissa. OMG I can't imagine having children over that period of time, let alone having seven, let alone hang the last at those ages. The sisters definitely look like sisters despite the age difference. Not a happy film, but the relationship the Danner character had with her husband was remarkable. Lots of love to be seen.
Ann, what a huge job! It's so good you will have some help this weekend. You are almost there. Yes, lunch it will be. Thinking of you and sending successful vibes.
Please share any new viewings.

We just watched IF BEALE STREET COULD TALK. I really liked it although I found it sad for all involved.

BEALE STREET is a very powerful film. And it's still relevant.
I am a terrible grandmother! I was really good at introducing my grandkids new things (books, foods, places, films) when they were young, Not so much anymore, now that they're teens. The older one mentioned that he was reading TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD In school. That is one of my all-time favorite books and films, so I suggested we watch it. I think I did not give enough information first. The younger one fell asleep and the older one left after the trial. I ended up being the only person watching the whole thing. That s the second time I saw it in a few weeks. One of the great films.

I think it is great that students are still reading To Kill a Mockingbird in school. My GKDS read it in school, too. I think the black and white film is tough for the kids of today.

You're right about the black an white, Ann. As it was coming on I said it was in black and white. They were incredulous. The whole thing??? Yet I cannot imagine it any other way. It went with the mood and time set of the film.

We didn't read TO KILL A MOCKING BIRD when I was in high school and living in Pa. I don't think I would have appreciated it as much as I did after living in Ga for 2 years as a young adult in 61-63 . It is a favorite of mine and did love the movie.
It is 45° today after 68° yesterday. This is crazy April.! Pretty normal!!! I saw my friend's forsythia bush was just starting to bud out yesterday, they are usually the first blooming bush for us and they are pretty hardy and lot of them are protected by other trees and bushes. My friend's is out in open and has been hit by frost before so hope no frost tonight. they are bright yellow and a beautiful spot of color in the drab month of April here in Pa.
I am trying to watch Hanna on Amazon prime but think I am going to give it up.

I watched Crazy Rich Asians last night and really liked it. It took me into a fantasy world. Right now my DH is recuperating from knee surgery in rehab. My brain needed a break everything stressful. This film did it. A light plot, colorful costumes, wonderful pictures of Japan, great happy music and a happy ending.

Last night we rented A DOG'S WAY HOME, DGD14's choice. Even she said there was a lot in it that was ridiculous. For one, we hear the dog's voice (Bryce Dallas Howard). The dog is a gentle, homeless pit bull pup that was raised by a cat when her mother was taken away. This is in a town where pit bulls are outlawed. A sweet pair of med students find her and the guy (brings her home to stay with him and his depressed war veteran mom (Ashley Judd). The guy finds a temporary home for the dog 400 miles away until he and his girlfriend can find a home someplace where they can keep Bella. The dog escapes and finds his way home. There is much that is unbelievable, but DD, DGD and I still ended up crying at the end. Not at all a great movie, but a good one for DG.

I have not watched a movie in ages. Mike is in GA fishing with his son, so I got GREEN BOOK and saw it tonight. I had a vague idea of what this was about but did not know how good it would be. I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end. Thanks to who ever recommended it!
