People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.

Good Morning!
Yesterday after doing my yoga class my back pain was completely gone! YAY! I will do some pool hanging when we get to the beach to help keep it at bay. I am sure sleeping in a different bed will have an effect on my back.
It has been one busy week. We will be heading to the beach later today. I will get on the thread when I can. I always do at least read your posts and think of you all when I am gone. You help keep me strong in my convictions with being OP.

Good morning. Ruth I’m so glad your back feels better. Have fun at the beach.
Rain and storms due here later. Ruth and Jane will get it first. I hope all in the Midwest and east do ok with the storm.
Karen are you still getting snow?
I am a bit upset and worried this morning. I forgot about an important HOA meeting last night. My memory is nothing to brag about.
Gail I’m sure your sleepiness while in traffic was somewhat due to the drink. Also of course your sleeping problem. I hope last night was a good night for you.

Good rainy morning. We got lots of rain last night and we're getting more today and tomorrow.
Ruth, glad your back pain is gone. Have fun at the beach!
Sharon, I have to write things on my calendar or I've been known to forget them. I try to write important things on both the calendar in my kitchen and the calendar on my phone so I'm covered twice.
We have Good Friday services tonight at church but I've decided not to go. I need to stay home today and get rested up from my hectic week. Tomorrow will be a very long day for me so I'll try to get to bed earlier than usual tonight. I'm picking up my DD early in the morning (8ish) and we're heading up to northeast Indiana for a visit with a friend. We probably won't get home tomorrow night until at least 8pm.

Good morning. Hubert got his all clear to be active yesterday. Just poured out 1.6 inches of rain from yesterday. More on the way today and temps dropping from 50s to 40s. Picking up DGS at 11 to spend the day with me. He's be `13 on May 1 and his mom is getting married on May 11, Going to Good Friday services at 8 tonight. Put on two pots of stuffed cabbage that I rolled last night. I'll also make a spiral; cut ham for Easter. Kids are bringing everything else.
Hope everyone is safe this stormy Easter weekend.

Rain here, thunder and wind so Kelcy is a bit nervous. I have the dish washer going and will work on laundry. I also want to learn a dance called Havana Cha and finish a book so have my day all mapped out. I plan to go to church tonight if the rain is gone. I have already had two calls on my cell that are nuisance. Only know that because my watch rings.

So glad your back is doing better, Ruth. Safe trip and have a wonderful time.
Sharon and Vicki, I use my calendar on my Apple devices. Even with that, if I forget to look I am in trouble. Last week I appeared one morning for PT where my appointment was the next day. The next day I thought it was at a different time and missed it. Yikes.
8 hours of sleep and I felt MUCH better when I got up. Tired this afternoon, though. Sharon, the wine might have added something, but not much, as we ate dinner and I had cappuccino (decaf) after that. I just tire more than I used to. Driving in and out of Boston is a lot for me and on top of 2 hours sleep, I was exhausted.
Yay for Hubert's clearance, Geri!
Jane, you have your usual busy day.
Today I saw my orthopedist. He is pleased with my progress, but is still worried about my bone density and thinks I should go for the shots for osteoporosis. I'll be calling my PCP later. I also went to PT. Doing great. My walking is still a bit off, so I asked the Dr about when I could use a pool. He said 6 weeks ago, so I will sign up for a water class for arthritics and do walking in the pool afterwards.
Spring is really popping now. Love the season. It has been a fine day. Mid 70s. It was supposed to rain but not yet. The woman who ran the flower arrangement class I missed last night brought over a beautiful arrangement. So nice of her.
I am getting a visit from the fire department shortly. they have a KeySafe program whereby we leave an extra key in a device that they attach to the outside wall. They know the code so they do not have to barge in if there is an emergency inside. The town and a hardware store sponsor it so we get a discount on the device and it is free installation.
Have a great evening everyone.
Gail

Greetings.
Sharon, the last snow we had was the day I mentioned it. It's been in the 60s and 70s since, though we did have a 58. The sun shines and it feels warmer. It's possible to get one more snow storm before believing that it's over for the season, but nothing on the horizon!
Yesterday was DGS-8 baseball game so we picked up the boys from school, gave them a snack and then went to the game. It got chilly when the sun went behind the buildings! I hadn't brought a warm coat. DH was not feeling well so we left early. I wanted Wendy's chili for dinner so we stopped and picked up a dish. Then we barely got home in time for DH to upchuck which he proceeded to do all night at regular intervals. Got some OTC meds to stay down about noonish today and he's slept for an hour so far but we're both exhausted! He went for passport renewal yesterday morning and had breakfast at a fast food place nearby so that's what I first thought, but his condition has lasted so long I'm thinking stomach flu. Anyway, I hope it's over soon.
What with having the boys on my morning to run errands after exercise I still don't have anything Easter-y for them. And I don't want to leave DH alone right now -- though I did leave him to go exercise and then to the store to get a few things for him. so, I need to get some things for them. We may not do anything though. Have to see.
Sharon, your dairy-free treat sounds yummy. At the store I picked up their complimentary seasonal magazine. There is a dairy-free cheesecake on the cover that looks really good. I glanced at the recipe which calls for almonds. So, if I try it I'll have to find a sub for the almonds. Those of you in Florida, or anywhere else I suppose, if you have a good Key Lime Pie or Faux Lime Pie, I'd be interested in the recipe. I like that but I haven't found a recipe. Although writing this reminds me I have a Lemon Pie recipe that I really like. I wonder if substituting lime juice for lemon would be as good. I wonder.

Gail, just saw your post before mine. I get the Prolia shots for osteoporosis. There is reimbursement for the shots for people who meet certain criteria. I have to re-certify before every shot in case something has changed, but it's just a phone call. It's 844-369-9962 and you can find out if you meet the criteria. It's pretty simple if you're approved, get the shot, provider bills insurance and insurance pays whatever, then the patient submits both the EOB showing insurance payment and the bill for the remainder from the provider. The reimbursement is only for the cost of the drug itself, not any other cost. But it's pretty simple. The first time they watch you pretty carefully to be sure there's no reaction. In fact for my first injection the rheumatologist sent me to an infusion center connected to a hospital. After that, no observation. And, after these few years, I finally had an improvement in bone density and that's the goal. PCPs generally won't do it, but refer to rheumatologists, but I never make hard and fast statements! Everywhere is different. Even if you don't qualify, I'd say consider it, but understand what your insurance will pay. The prescription is billed out over $1500 an injection. The first time I saw the bill I was in shock. Now I understand about payment and I think it's a more common occurrence than it used to be. Just understand the total picture.

Karen I’m sorry to hear Bill is Ill. And how do you make lemon or key lime without dairy? I’d love to know. The orange ice cream I enjoyed yesterday was made with a coconut milk and gelato base.
I did go to shuffleboard this morning. I was still in my pjs and no breakfast but I threw on some clothes, washed my face and left. I was not going to forget one more thing.
A neighbor reassured me that the meeting I forgot went well and all was solved.
Geri hooray for Hubert. Was a cutie he is. Will he be adopted out?
Gail I need to get a good nights sleep tonight too. I’m glad you were able to. Good and bad news from your orthopedist. Bone density is helped with weight bearing exercise, which you have been unable to do.
I want to say Happy Passover and Happy Easter to each and every one of you. What are your plans for the holiday? The clubhouse dinner is catered so I will avoid it because of dairy. Don says not to worry he will grill out.

Gail I don't know how you can function on 2 hours sleep. I was up until after 1 last night but still got over 7 hours sleep.
The rain is on the way again so I probably will not try to get to church tonight. I try not to leave Kelcy if there is thunder and right now that is happening. He is such a good boy and I just don't like to see him scared. He won't eat tonight because of the storm so I will only feed him about 1/2 the usual amount since it will probably end up getting pitched. Right now he is under my chair.
Geri So glad Hubert has been cleared for activity.
This is why I was up so late last night.
I went investigating cruises. I just miss them so much. A brochure came in the mail yesterday and I researched that cruise to find out it was about $6000 for 6 days and required me to fly. I read the reviews and they were either excellent or awful and not many in between. Well I am not going to spend that kind of money for a trip so I did more looking and found one in Dec. aboard a ship I have been on twice before--out of Miami so I can take a bus to the cruise port and I am familiar with that port so know to take Don's walker because there is always a line there and I will be able to sit on the walker. That cruise is for a balcony and only $55 for the single supplement and a week for less than $1000. I have been to all the ports several times but that is OK with me. I just don't want to fly anywhere. So now I need to renew my passport so I went on line and filled out the renewal info and put ink in the printer (my first time to do that) and printed out the pages. Tomorrow I will try to get my passport picture at Walgreen's on the way home from line dance. If I do this trip my pet sitter should be available. The ship and the ports would be decorated for Christmas and it gives me something to look forward to. So I would not try to do the 6 day bus trip in July or the 3 day one in Dec. That saving would pay for this trip and even though I would be alone, I would be alone on the bus trips, too. I am so leary of leaving Kelcy with a different pet sitter and the extra cost for being alone is always a fee I hate to have so just about $10 a day extra is well worth it and I would not be paying for any meals on a ship. I haven't made the reservation but I have certainly been thinking about it all day. My only problem is trying to lie down to sleep but I can ask for extra pillows and can even take my own for the ship. I might practice sleeping on a bed before then and see if I can do it without anxiety over it.
It is really storming now so no way am I leaving the house. This is the most rain we have had in months and the most wind we have had and a bit scary. Not a good welcome for Ruth to the beach where I imagine she is arriving about now. Pictures on Face book of Barefoot beach yesterday showed a lot of people still. That is my closest beach and about a 20 min drive if you make all the lights.
Thinking of Don telling me to book this cruise. I have no need to book any of the excursions so other than the bus and the tips it is mostly that cost.

Thanks for the info, Karen. I have kidney disease which is a contraindication for Prolia, but did call my PCP. My orthopedist did say my bone density is off the charts, about the worst he has ever see so this is urgent. He said it is more than the lack of activity due to the broken patella and knee replacement surgery. Since I can go in a pool now, that is where I will do my weight-bearing exercise. My balance is still off. Sorry about Bil and hope he is doing better.
Yes, happy holidays to everyone, whatever you celebrate.
I have no plans this year. It took so much out of me to go to DD's and I would rather get in shape than go through the traveling to their house all over again. Poor DD is really having trouble with her dad. He does not have much time to get out of his apartment and does not like the one she found for him. He can't be forced. So she told him she was just stepping down from finding him a place. He has not done anything to find a spot. I know he is depressed, but she has more than a full-time job and two children. She is exhausted. He had an offer to live in a house in Sarasota and would just have to pay utilities and taxes. He hasn't even called about that. Not my problem, except that I am worried about DD.
Time to watch the news. Early to bed tonight again!
Gail
