People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself “Enough is enough and I’m getting in shape!” On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.
If the thread has not been started for a day, and you are ready to post, feel free to get us started.

Good morning friends. It’s sunny and cool this morning. We had a ton of rain, wind and lightning yesterday afternoon. Now it has cooled off. It should be a wonderful day to be out.
I’ve been watching documentaries on healthy life and such. Last evening I saw “Eating” by Mark Anderson. I recommend this as another point of view. He makes some good points. I’ve been leaning more and more toward a plant based diet. However I have that big steak in the fridge for Sunday dinner. Oh well.
Have a lovely day friends.

Good morning all.
I was up extra early this morning and now I'm almost ready to leave to pick up DD for our road trip to NE Indiana. It's a 3 hr drive one way so we probably won't be home until around 8pm this evening. We're visiting one of my best friends since high school and I've really been looking forward to this trip. It will be a long day but a fun one.
I checked the weather online and it looks like I'll be driving all the way there in rain. Ugh. This will be the 3rd day of rain but it is supposed to move out later on tonight and Easter Sunday will be very nice and much warmer than the 50s we've had the past day or two.

This will be the first Easter that Fred and I will be on our own with Debbie and Maija in Italy. Fred thought about us going out for dinner but I don't like leaving Maybean on his own with the dogs so I think I'll suggest he use our Olive Garden gift cards and do carry out. I figure they will be really crowded on Easter and this way no tip, no beverages and just relaxing at home with an already prepared meal. I noticed they have a few new dishes on the menu.
This morning Fred will be golfing so not sure what I'll be doing. Not going to WW and I looked at my journal and haven't been to a meeting since March 23 or done a WI since March 9. Thinking maybe it really is time to quit.

Where did you see that documentary, Sharon? Amazon? Netflix? Sounds interesting.
We're expecting rain today and (possibly) tomorrow, but temps in the high 60s. I have some shopping to do so I will be able to walk.
Have a great visit, Vicki.
Sounds like a perfe3ct idea for Easter, Sandy.
I've made some of Ann's lentil, spinach, sausage soup and will bring some across the street to my neighbor who broke her humerus. She is doing great. Lots of falls around here lately. Working hard at making sure I will not be one of the statistics.
Have a good one, friends.

Greetings: Just a quick hi! On my way to WW for the meeting. Have to weigh in this week as I'll be gone next week and I want my free etools!
And a QOTD. Hope to get some inspiration for that.
Finished yesterday's posts. Sharon, you raise an interesting question. I haven't made that lemon pie since Tucson. I hope it doesn't have dairy in it! I don't remember it, but then again with swiss cheese memory ...
Gail, so sorry about the Prolia.
KC, how is Bill today?
My Bill has now gone 2 nights without much sleep. I'm exhausted. I don't know how he can move. temp yesterday, but I hoping that's over. 24 - 36 hours for stomach flu should do it.

Got up early, took care of Hubert, showered, washed my hair and got Easter baskets arranged to I can fill this evening. Going to church to get basket blessed this morning. Home to mop the floors and then work at 1:00. Cooked poppy seed filling for my rolls. Will roll out and bake after work (1-6) today. Mass at 8:00. I may bake a carrot cake in the morning and I may not. Depends on all I get accomplished today.
Hubert has to have another echocardiogram before he is eligible for adoption. He will be going to a sub foster on Monday as I will be having my hand surgery on tuesday. I'll get him back on Wednesday or Thursday.
Lots of rain yesterday and still some spritzing today. Tomorrow should be 75 and sunny. Last night went down to 38. Today should be 55-60. Yestrday it fell all day long. I guess this is what Spring is all about. Change, change, change.

Karen if the temp continues with Bill it’s possible he has food poisoning. I had that several years ago. Of course Easter weekend is a hard time to be seen. Take care of you too.
Gail I watched “Eating” on Amazon prime. I streamed it on the tv but can be watched on a tablet. It makes some good points. All of these documentaries I watch say things I don’t agree with but I find them interesting and feel I can grow from that.

Back home DH is still asleep. Food poisoning with a fever? I don't know that much about food poisoning. DH is still asleep I don't think he moved since I left. I did look in long enough to make sure it was breathing.
I managed to lose a bit from last month's weigh-in. The topic was eat what you love. As the conversation got started, I listened to members talking about how far they could get into the day with 0 point foods which I think is just ... crazy. I know that most of what I eat is 0 point foods, but avoiding pointy foods is not a goal. I want to disperse them through the day. Anyway, it did make me realize that I do eat a 0 point lunch most of the time. Anyway, that does make me a bit more attentive to ensuring I get carbs and oils during the day. I used to use salad dressing on my salad at lunch, but since I started using balsamic vinegar I haven't used oil. Maybe get some oil in with the vinegar and mustard! However, that's not the point.
Eat what you love. There is a delicate balance, I think between eating foods that you love in reasonable point quantities and going toenails over teacups over trigger foods. The emphasis of the meeting was not to declare "forbidden" foods because that will only make them more appealing to us. But to figure a way to eat them in moderation when we can get to that stage.
Another woman, whose name was also Karen, spoke my words. She loves bread and crackers and told of her recent decline into a pan of fresh cornbread. I think there is a decision or a point at which we might say that a particular food, though we may like it, it simply not worth it. Not declare it forbidden, but not worth it because of the havoc that it raises. I think it's kind of like identifying some foods as those we are allergic to. I can live with that. I know that every single time I have lost a lot of weight, been happy and satisfied with myself and then tried to bring back foods, even before WW, that it was bread and crackers that I just couldn't manage. It was a slippery slope. I have both now after all these years. I count out the crackers into the serving. I put the box back into the pantry and I know the points of the serviing. Then I eat them as planned. It is structured and rigid and I know. I know that if I get that container back out thata it's all over and I will eat far more. so, structure.
QOTD: You don't need to identify it if you know that's not a good thing for you, but how do you handle foods that you really like, that you might call forbidden foods or trigger foods?
AOTD: My answer is folded into the intro above!
And now it's time to fill my water bottle and head over for Zumba. DH hasn't roused yet. I skipped a poetry workshop because I didn't want to be gone that long from him. He's got to be hungry. He'll probably want to stand on the scales!
KC, such great news about Bill! Relief!
Sharon, I haven't looked through recipes since I've been here, but I'm going to look for that lemon pie recipe. In Tucson we'd be inundated with lemons and I'd have made it a couple of times already! Not so much here.
Jane, I'm glad you're going on a cruise. You enjoy them so.
Joanne, how are you doing? And Marlo? Gail, wow. I hope your PCP has some good ideas about the bone density issue. Maybe a referral will give you a specialist's help to work on getting that strength back. That's why I jump, when I remember. The one article that said that random jumping through the day, at least 30 seconds apart, seemed to have the best results for increasing bone density. I do have trouble remembering it. Maybe I need to tie it to walking 250 steps. Always start and stop with a jump. Yes, good idea. Thanks, Gail.

I can't jump...because of the knee replacement. But the walking is something I can do, Karen, and will.

Hi Everyone!
KC glad to hear that DH will be discharged and with good news!
Karen C sure hope things get better for DH, so draining for both!
Gail, so scary, falling asleep at a light. Be careful! My Orthopedic Doc at MGH said the best thing for bones is Vitamin D. I'm sure you will do your research. Re: ExH I've often wondered about people who acted indifferent when others put forth such effort in their behalf. It's hard to understand, but I'm sure there's something behind it.
Jane, the prospect of a cruise is exciting! Those are the cruises that I took, no extra for single occupancy and low rates. When I cruised with DH, when we booked the cruise, we requested wheelchair assistance when boarding. A crew member provided a wheelchair and took us through check in and when it was time to board, wheeled DH right to our cabin. This service was also provided for disembarking. Please take advantage of this as you won't be exhausted trying to maneuver from the start!
Recently I received an ad about 'Ruggables'. These are area rugs in various sizes that are washable! A waterproof pad is provided and then a 'rug cover' of your choice, goes on top. The top 'rug' can actually fit in a standard washer! I love this idea as I agree with Sharon, rugs never feel clean!
Bedding, I have this Crate and Barrel, Marimeko style comforter, bed skirt with matching Master Bath shower curtain. It's king size but I'm changing to a Queen and hope to still use it. Because I'm on the 6th level with ocean views from each room, I have very little window coverings.
For Easter, I am going to a Brunch at 9:30 am, with DD, DSinLaw and DGD. I'm not fond of Brunch as I don't eat most items served and can't over indulge since my Gall Bladder removal. It doesn't matter, I'm going for the company. I've ordered the cutest Radio Flyer tricycle for DGD but it hasn't arrived so I'm heading out to a few more surprises. Her teacher said she loves the glue stick and so we glued letters and shapes all week as well as the paint with water. I'm off to get some washable paints as she just loves anything to do with art. Surprisingly, for 21 months, she is quite attentive to these activities.
My two little girls had school vacation and the Dad was going to be off for the week but, one of his corporate clients is the local supermarket and 31,000 workers are on strike so he had to work. I ended up having the girls for 30 hrs total and we had a great week with library activities, a luncheon at a local restaurant and I managed to still swim while they went into child care at the Y!
When I was at the Dermatologist a few weeks ago, she noticed that my bottom lip was split. I thought it was because I was mindlessly biting my lips. She mentioned that we should watch it since skin cancer on lips is much trickier than just removing Squamous cells. Now I am feeling a small lump inside the edge of my bottom lip! Has anyone had this, does it go away? Guess I'll have to get it checked asap. Yuck! I'm hoping it's a little cyst.
I'm trying to remember the other QOTD. I will say that for me, I am finding that 'in moderation' doesn't work for me. I crave all of the yummy vegetable, quinoa, bean dishes, etc. but if I decide to treat myself (like the baked stuffed lobster) I begin to crave other dishes that I prefer to avoid.
Oh, the steamer! My DD has an electric steamer that I sometimes use for steaming broccoli as I serve it to the girls often. At home I have a double boiler type steamer pan that works just as well or I have a silver steamer type insert that opens up and I put that in a large wok shaped pan with cover, for larger amounts.
Happy Easter, Happy Passover, Happy Sunday to all!

I have spent the last hour looking at buses to get me to the port. And one already was sold out---must be a big group because this is still almost 8 months away. I have a cabin on hold until Tues. and a message left for my pet sitter. All of this has to work out before I send in my deposit. This ship holds 5400 which is more people than the town in which I was born. And the crew is over 2500; A very large ship.
I didn't sleep well last night.
