This is a conservative thread to allow those with conservative views to express themselves. We welcome Republicans, Tea Party folks, and those who believe in the Constitution as written, not as interpreted by liberal judges. If you have liberal views we invite you to participate in a civil and respectful conversation. We would respectfully request that if you cannot post in a respectful and civil manner to refrain from doing so until you can. Good discussions are great - insulting arguments are not. We welcome discussions about our weight loss journey.

Just saying Hi. I have backed away from a lot of the crazyness on politics. My H tells me if there is anything worthwhile I need to know about. I did watch DT at his rally drive the MSM batmerde crazy, that was fun.
BO had his late night liberal "comedy" show to go on, to reach out to his base. DT uses his rallys. Whatever works.

Susie, President Trump is criticized for his rallies but it is his way of going directly to the public and not depending on the media who distort what he says and does. I don't watch everything on TV as a matter of fact I watch very little TV. If we stayed tuned to politics all day we would go crazy.
Ronald Regan often went on TV to speak to the public to get his message out.
Have a great day.

I know Meg. I don't know why it bothers the other side so much. BO did the same thing. He did a lot of speaking at gatherings mostly fund raisers. I assumed that is why he was dubbed Campaigner and Chief. He did a lot of late night TV to a receptive audience. That is how he reached his base.
I remember when JFK won over Richard Nixon, many at the time said it was because he came across so much better on TV than RN. I was in about 5th grade at that time, and I still remember my folks and others discussing it.
I think DT is getting better and better at all this. He definately didn't start out a slick pol like slick willy and hilly did.

OK I have to vent...
I am so sick of people says poor immigrants they didn't go to work and didn't call in and lost their jobs. Cry me a river if I don't call in or have a planned and OKed by my boss day off I don't have a job. Why are they so special?
Also why are the snowflakes so special? To disrespect any one who disagrees with them. I disagreed choice for president but never carried on like my world was ending, hoped for the best and kept on.
I feel so sorry for the kids and the future. If those people get their way their children and grandchildren will not know freedom. They will live in fear and most will be a unclassified citizen. Sad thing is that all the people that think their money and status will help them will find that is not to be. The counties don't care they will stab them in the back or front as soon as look at them.
I guess next time they win we can act like fools and not accept them they are opening the disrespect line making it fine and what we should do.
Thanks for listening to me.

Susie, My DH was stationed at Sioux City AFB in 1961. Richard Nixon and his wife Pat flew into the AFB when he campaigned in Sioux City. I was able to go out to the flight line to see them when they arrived. He is the only President that I have ever seen. Of course he lost that election but won later.
Have a good evening.

Hey all. Meg, thanks for the start-up.
Agree with all the above comments. And hallelujah! PRESIDENT Trump follows through on another campaign promise:
Homeland Security Secretary John Kelly moved Tuesday to implement a host of immigration enforcement changes ordered by President Trump, directing agency heads to hire thousands more officers, end so-called “catch-and-release” policies and begin work on the president’s promised U.S.-Mexico border wall.
“It is in the national interest of the United States to prevent criminals and criminal organizations from destabilizing border security,” Kelly wrote in one of two memos released Tuesday by the department.
The changes would spare so-called "dreamers." On a conference call with reporters, a DHS official stressed that the directives would not affect Obama-era protections for illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children and others given a reprieve in 2014. But outside those exemptions, Kelly wrote that DHS “no longer will exempt classes or categories of removable aliens from potential enforcement.”
A DHS official said the agencies are “going back to our traditional roots” on enforcement.
######################### Personally, I do not have a problem at all with people looking to come to our country in the LEGAL manner, for example what Meg had to go through decades ago in order to live here. More times needs to be taken for investigation and vetting of peoples' backgrounds. Crossing our borders should NOT automatically mean welfare benefits that I have to pay for. Those that want to enter our country should at least have a skill that will help them get a job and be self-supporting.
I really like the idea I had a few months ago. All these people that are wringing their hands over the "unfairness" of Trump's new rules, or block airport access, or riot and protest in the streets......every single one of them should be detained and be asked to sign an agreement that since they are so willing to have all of these people have free access over our borders, then each one of these protestors have to agree to "adopt a family". They have to provide food, clothing, shelter, medical and education for the next 20 years or so. With no help from the government either. Let these liberals feel the pinch in their OWN wallet. Don't force me to pay for something that I am totally AGAINST and should NOT have to pay for......especially since these people are NOT citizens and they don't have any rights under our constitution.

Which brings me to the Sweden situation. Trump, when mentioning Sweden and what is going on there, was referring to a report by Tucker Carlson on Fox. Really disturbing things going on in that peaceful country. ### From Fox News:
Riots erupted in a heavily immigrant Stockholm suburb Monday night, as masked looters set cars ablaze and threw rocks at cops, injuring one police officer, Swedish officials said.
The violence in Rinkeby began around 8 p.m., when officers arrested a suspect at an underground station on drug charges, The Local reported. A group soon gathered, hurling rocks and other objects at officers and prompting one cop to fire his gun “in a situation that demanded he use his firearm,” police spokesman Lars Bystrom said.
“But nobody has been found injured at the scene and we have checked the hospitals and there hasn’t been anyone with what could be gunshot wounds,” Bystrom added.
Seven or eight cars were set on fire and many stores saw looting, The Local reported. A photographer from media outlet Dagens Nyheter said a group of 15 people beat him as he tried to document the chaos.
“I was hit with a lot of punches and kicks both to my body and my head. I have spent the night in hospital,” said the photographer, who was not named.
The rioting ended just after midnight.
No arrests were made; however, reports were filed on three violent acts, violence against a police officer, two assaults, vandalism and aggravated thefts, authorities said.
Rinkeby is the same area where an Australian "60 Minutes" crew was attacked by a group of men in April 2016. The film crew was attempting to enter a so-called “no go zone,” which authorities deny they use as a label. Rinkeby, however, has been officially classified as one of 15 “particularly vulnerable” areas across Sweden.
The country's prime minister, Stefan Lofven, said Monday, "Yes, we have challenges like all other countries. There's no doubt. We have a situation in the world where 65 million people had to flee their countries last year, the year before that. 65 million. So that's a war for us together." He also said Sweden was investing more in housing, technology and its welfare system.
Reports of rapes in Sweden jumped 13 percent in 2016 compared to the previous year, and reports of sexual assaults were up 20 percent, according to preliminary data from the Swedish National Council for Crime Prevention.
Recent migration to Sweden hit its peak in 2015 with more than 160,000 asylum applications. ################# So really, is this what YOU want to happen here? Who in Sweden do you think is paying for more house and welfare? The hard working people of Sweden. And what do they get in return? Nothing.....except seeing people not doing anything and collecting government handouts. I, for one, am NOT on board with this.

The battle begins anew. I got an estimate to carpet my screened in porch and fix the seam between my kitchen and utility room and install baseboards in the living room to keep the cats from pulling the carpet up. The estimate came to over $900!! I almost fell over... can't believe it is that expensive, but they reminded me I chose commercial grade carpet to guard against water damage when it rains. I'm looking for a cheaper carpet of similar quality.

I ordered the carpet repair and baseboards for $210 and they can do that Monday. Then I checked at another carpet place and Home Depot to see if I could get the carpet cheaper for the same quality. The carpet place wanted over $800 but Home Depot will do it for about $530 so it looks like Home Depot will get the job once my gf approves the color.

"Post-election stress disorder" is the new term created by mental health professionals for what some liberals are experiencing after Donald J. Trump's win.
So funny. I thought they were just being sore losers. It's a mental disorder, that explains irrational rantings and protesting.

Hi Linda, have you checked your e-mail? I sent you one a day or 2 ago, I am glad we have a President who wanyts to follow the law. We have lots of laws that are ignored or forgotten about As far as I know there have always been laws regarding immigrants. Going back many years when immigrants arrived at Ellis Island many were not allowed to enter he country and had to go back to their own country because of illness that was contagious along other things. I am sure there have been immigration laws for very many years. I know a family who waited 7 years to get a visa to enter the US. They came from the Netherlands AND ARE NOW American Citizens.

Hi Geri, I guess we were posting at the same time. My DGD was talking to me and I wasn't paying close attention to my post. Rush has been saying for years that Liberalism was a disease or mental disorder and I guess maybe someone is making it official. I wonder if there is a pill they can take for it. My DS and Devin are in Florida this week visiting DGD#1. I think they spent last weekend at Disney World. I know hey are not close to where you live.
Gary, when you get finished working on your home it will be the best one on the block.

Tucker just had someone on of the same mental derangement as my brother-in-law. Where do people get the idea that Trump is a fascist? Where do they get the idea he is worse than Hitler because he has his finger on the nuclear button? The frenzy of the ultra liberal left is just mind boggling.
After talking to my gf we decided we might as well stick with the original offer on the porch carpeting. Even though it is expensive at least we know what we are getting and it's not that much more than the other offers after deducting the cost of the carpet repairs inside. I think I already have the best home on the block. This is just finishing up. We still have the storage room / summer kitchen to work on when she comes here in the summer.
