Any plans for the weekend? Any food preparation? Check in and let us know what is happening .
Saturday I'll be going in to town for Mass and I plan to pick up a few groceries. Sunday, if all goes as planned, my son will be coming in the afternoon and staying until Tues. morning. We'll catch up on some recorded TV shows and maybe if it is nice enough put together a raised garden bed. However it doesn't sound like it will be very warm on Monday, which is when we would do that.

Might go to a friend's house for coffee or lunch this Sunday or next. Told hubby to decide what he wants to do and I will drive and go along.
Food prep - haven't thought about it BUT we have broccoli (more of it!) and cabbage and carrots and other things that should be made into something. Might make mjudra (lentils and rice or bulgur) with cabbage salad (shredded and dressed with lemon, olive oil, garlic, S&P).
Yesterday a cousin came and hubby and the cousin (male) made green beans with onions, garlic and tomatoes that we ate with Arabic bread.

My weekends all sound the same! Leaving soon for grocery shopping and a few other errands - including weighing in for May at WW. A visit to an assisted living with the dogs this afternoon. I'm planning to mix up some cold oatmeal to have a few servings of that on hand for this week.

We will be here in FL for the weekend. We are 4 seniors, so the weekend won't be very exciting. Today's activities will include going back to the mall that we were at yesterday to return some things that we bought yesterday! Don't know what we will be doing for food today. Hopefully SIL will let me do the cooking, if so, we will have pork chops & baked potatoes with a nice salad. We probably won't eat out since it is the weekend & all the restaurants around here will be packed. Maybe a little bingo by the pool this afternoon. Another wild weekend!!! Keep going friends!

Watered the flower baskets and the garden that I have already planted this morning. Really need to do a bit of house cleaning this weekend. I also started cleaning on the garage last weekend, and want to get out there again if possible.
I am going to a "tea" at my church this afternoon. It is in the middle of the day, which is kinda annoying as you can't really get too dirty earlier because you have to be cleaned up and presentable by 130pm.
Working on eating out of my cupboards/freezer so will see what I can make for dinner from there. Don't really need many groceries as far as I can tell. Maybe a bit more fruit.
Have a good weekend. Will report back on the tea in the morning.

We celebrated our 44th anniversary with a walk and dinner at our favorite steak house. We treated ourselves to new linens on our bed and an orchid plant we got on our walk. Have a great evening everyone. Weโre relaxing tomorrow after church.

Happy 44th Anniversary, Pam!
Sounds like relaxing weekends for everyone.
I need to be ready to drive an hour to get to Harissa to enjoy brunch with friends. When I get home I need to write two book reviews and start reading another book.

pamthomas46 , 44 years! Wow! Congratulations!
After services this morning (great sermon, by the way), I spoke with DGS who's graduating from high school in about a month. (We generally talk every weekend, although he had some kind of phone glitsch last weekend and I couldn't get through to him). Caught up on what's going on with him. Went out to dinner (to one of our favorite restaurants) with DH and another couple we like very much; I ordered something I've never had there before and it was DELICIOUS.
Tomorrow I'm teaching at two venues; both classes have 6th and 7th grade students. I'm carpooling with another teacher who lives a couple of miles from me. Will be home around 5pm. (It's the last day of Sunday School for the afternoon class.)

No real plans for today, I think we are just going to see a movie. SIL & I want to see "Breakthrough", which is a story about a young boy who falls through the ice. Pam, many congrats on your anniversary. Great Sunday all!

cathygeha , I've never seen mjudra made with bulgur! I bet it's even better than with rice! Recipe please? TIA! (Also: please tell us about the brunch and about the book reviewing...) jasimons , cold oatmeal? Do you mean you "make" it in the fridge overnight? or do you mean something else? and if something else, I'm wondering what?

Pam - congratulations on your 44th anniversary! Holly Gail - Here's a link to the recipe I use for recipe the overnight/refrigerator oatmeal. It starts with uncooked oats, which soak up the liquid ingredients overnight. I liked it from the first time I tried it, but others I know have found it to be...ummm...unusual. I like it for warmer times of the year when a hot cereal might not be appealing. www.theyummylife.com/Refrigerator_OatmealI like the raspberry & chocolate the best. I also frequently substitute cherries for the raspberries. Really nothing specific going on around here today - some "life chores" probably...just stuff like watering houseplants, I've cut up some veggies, things like that. Might watch some baseball on TV later. And just relax and re-charge.

Holly - there are variations on this dish. When I am making it with bulgur I will usually use: 1 large onion (or more) 8 cloves garlic 1 cup lentils 1 cup bulgur (I use the coarser version)
I put the sliced or chopped onions in oil to start browning Put the lentils in about 4 cups of water and begin boiling (they usually need 45 minutes) Keep an eye on the onions and stir - they usually take about 30 minutes to get golden/darkish but not burned Add the bulgur in at about 30 minutes with the whole (or chopped) garlic cloves and half or all of the onions Cook till lentils are tender. Keep an eye on the water and add more if you need to.
Some people put half the onions on the side and let them crisp up to use as garnish when serving...I usually just toss all the onions in at one time. I leave the garlic whole in case someone doesn't like garlic - they can easily pull it out.
When making mjudra with brown rice I put the brown rice and lentils in together while the onions brown and then add the onions and salt at about 30 minutes and keep cooking.
