BUT you serious have me laughing at the thought of a cat letting a pet gate stand in their way. š¼ Well, Deb, there IS hope. Missy has had a jumping impairmemt since she was a kitten. Apparently mama cat never taught her to jump. I actually had to teach her to jump up on the sofa, and thatās still about as high as she can jump. She is able to jump up onto the guest bed upstasirs because it is lower than my bed in the master bedroom; downstairs she has a special carpeted staircase to get into and out of bed. But sheās NOT spoiled I tell you.

zazzles, thanks for posting the before pics! I love the French doors! Are you going to keep the wall oven or do a regular stove this time? I've had both and kinda miss my wall oven but doing so here would have had me losing my tiny but much loved little pantry closet. We had a kitchen designer do the plans but DH tweaked everything, of course. He actually tweaked the whole house which I'm sure annoyed the heck out of the builder but now we have (almost) pretty much exactly what we wanted. Of course there are always those "woulda shoulda coulda" things that we would have done a little differently but, all in all, the house came out great. Wishing you a wonderful experience with your remodelling jobs and one bit of advice---if you think you want something, do it now! No regrets, lol!

Wishing you a wonderful experience with your remodelling jobs and one bit of advice---if you think you want something, do it now! No regrets, lol! Thanks for the advice. Iām hoping that I donāt come up with any brainstorms while work is in progress. I did an external remodel 10 years ago and ended up adding on whole-house av/internet cabling and some electrical work. Iāve had enough ātweaksā done over the years that I really canāt think of anything else I want or need. I had done a preliminary design for the kitchen which involved extending the wall next to the family room in order to fit everything I wanted. The designer suggested reversing the layout which ended up not requring the wall being extended, and he added a small peninsula to provide a small counter seating area that will fit two counter stoolsāthat was unexpected and something Iām looking forward to as I will be able to sit and do sous chef tasks instead of standing all the time. Originally I was going to keep the cooktop and put in a new below-counter oven; the designer pointed out that the new oven would cost as much as a slide-in range. I ended up deciding to do the slide-in range because it is 30ā vs. the ~42ā cooktop and wonāt require the quartz countertop to have a cut-out. Iāve replaced the cooktop in its current location twice and found it annoying that choice was limited to what would fit in the already-cut countertop. So by using a stand-alone range replacement ecomes a snap. I made the same decision on the microwaveāno built-in. I had the designer spec an over-counter cabinet with a āholeā for an off-the-shelf microwave. Iāve replaced the current one three times and each time required paying hefty installation fees.

zazzles , it's amazing how much THINKING has to go into a remodel! It's so much more complicated than a lot of people realize but it all becomes apparent once you get into the planning. I love how these DIY shows have remodelling newbies slapping together a gorgeous kitchen in a weekend, lol. Uh-huh, yeah, right. We went for the microwave drawer and I love it but I have some reservations concerning replacement when that time comes (as it certainly will). It's a totally standard 24" model but the cutout is custom and you know how that goes. Hoping that when we have to replace that there will be a model that simply slides in nicely but.... I like the idea of a peninsula too. I have an island now but I had a peninsula in the last house and it was my favorite prep area in my small kitchen. We opted not to have seating but instead filled the bottom of the peninsula with cabinets. Sounds like the seating will work wonderfully for your needs! So exciting to see ideas take shape---looking forward to progress pics!

If I had a huge kitchen, I would love to have both a drawer microwave and a drawer refrigerator or two and a drawer freezer. Iād have the drawer refrigerator just to hold all the condiments that seem to eat up 1/2 the space in the full-sized refrigerator. I am planning on keeping my current full-sized refrigerator, but still toying with the idea of replacing it with this model from Samsung. Since I have a large upright freezer in the garage, I donāt need a lot of freezer space in the kitchen and the ability to have expanded fresh-food storage is appealing as I never seem to have enough space for fresh produce.

I like that! Yep, the fresh produce storage thing can be an issue. That, and beer/beverage storage in the summer. We have a big upright freezer in the basement and a regular fridge/freezer in the garage that I use for beverages, giant watermelons, prepared foods and cakes for parties, ice for the cooler we carry in the car, etc. My kitchen fridge is also a Samsung, the French door with the bottom freezer. Pretty happy with it, had one issue that required service (thank you, Lowe's extended warranty). We are only two people but manage to keep all of them pretty full. I cook en masse and freeze in huge quantities---I do believe I had a former life as a mess hall cook.

My electric bill is high enough especially in the summer running the AC so I couldn't even having that plus 3x the large appliances!

If I go for a new fridge, I donāt think Iād keep the existing on in the garage. It is way to big (28 cu. ft.) to have for beverages and condiments. It also is a french door, bottom-drawer freezer and the freezer would be wasted space. Since I bought a small 4.5 cu. ft. Frigidaire refrigerator-freezer for the upstairs to get me through the project, I might decide to put it in the garage and use it for condiments and beverages. It would be just the right size for overflow. And then I probaby would do just fine with the current refrigerator/freezer until it gives its last gasp. Iāve had no problems with it; the only GE product that has been trouble-free for me in years! I looked at reviews of the Samsung box I provided the link to and it seems lots of people give it bad reviews because of ongoing problems with the icemaker. So it might not be a wise buy after all. Iāll have to see if Consumer Reports rates it.

When my mother remodeled the kitchen/bath in the old house (circa 1897), it was done by a bunch of licensed professionals who hung out at a bar where my brother bartended. So my brother, essentially, was the general contractor. Work started in December and I personally screwed on the last electrical outlet faceplate on July 4 the following year and declared the project done. I wouldnāt wish a remodel project that stretched out that many months on anybody. They can build a new house in 8 to 12 months!

When DH and I looked for a new refrigerator, we looked at a Samsung and Kenmore Elite. Both had French doors with the freezer drawer on the bottom. After looking at the configuration of both, side by side, I decided on the Kenmore. I've been very happy with it and would buy it again. I keep it filled most of the time. I also have our old style refrigerator in the garage and it keeps drinks, extra produce and over flow. It is 17 years old and my biggest complaint was it wasn't big enough for all of our condiments! LOL! I also have a large upright style freezer (in my utility room) that I bought in 1978 and it is still going strong and stays almost full year round. There are only 2 of us and it's amazing to me how we keep these filled. When the old freezer goes, I "MAY" not replace it but I'm just not sure I can do without it. If I don't replace it, I will move the garage refrigerator into the house because the summers here are very hard on appliances.

I looked at reviews of the Samsung box I provided the link to and it seems lots of people give it bad reviews because of ongoing problems with the icemaker. Oh boy...I forgot about that. We've given up on the door ice dispenser and luckily we got the model with a second ice maker in the freezer drawer. The ice maker in the Samsung is useless---what seems to happen is that cubes melt (I would assume this happens when you open the fridge door) and refreeze and then they jam up the dispenser. Temperamental too, as it will work for a while and then jam up again. Many MANY complaints about the Samsung door ice maker. Funny, it is essentially the same model as the old GE Profile one I had in the old house. I bought the Samsung because I really liked the GE and had zero problems with it. When we were shopping for this one I was told that GE had discontinued the one we had but Samsung was the replacement. And it was---exactly the same, right down to the shelf and door configuration that I wanted. But yeah, the ice maker is a real bummer.
