Yes…for MOST companies. Smaller companies and those who can claim a hardship can have until 2021. This was all set to happen earlier, but that man in the big white house put a kabosh on it through the FDA.

Thanks for sharing! Those are great changes. I especially love that they can no longer put some flimsy serving size to keep the appearance of calories low. I remember buying some national brand premade kettle corn that at first glance looked reasonable in calories until I read the fine print that said a serving size was about 7 popped kernels. I'm exaggerating slightly but it was something ridiculous like that. Especially knowing that no one opens a smallish bag of popcorn and just takes a few out and calls it a day.

Mike, do you remember when they were set to change before? Wasn't it before Smart points or was it Freestyle?

Mike, do you remember when they were set to change before? Wasn't it before Smart points or was it Freestyle? It was supposed to take place the same year SmartPoints rolled out to the public. I’ve always suspected that SmartPoints originally may have had a formula that penalized added sugars and got switched to all sugars at the last minute because of the delay in the labeling change.

I hope this happens. I like that the serving size is changing to a bit more realistic number.
This is very important when it comes to sodium. Often a reasonable single serving of a frozen food has a total daily worth of sodium. Crazy.
I also like to know the added sugar in an item. I've seen a few items at Trader Joe's that already have this. I have decided not to buy items due to added sugar.

I will be interested if WW for 2020 will now calculate points based upon added sugars rather than total. I also felt that was what they had originally intended. Of course, they may make other changes for next year but that is one I would think they would make (basically use added sugars if available, otherwise use total).

That was always my suspicion as well Mike. I don't think they intended for all sugars to be so badly penalized. Based solely on 50+ years of preaching that members need to drink 2 to 3 glasses of skim milk per day, coupled with the fact that a glass of skim milk went from 2 points to 3 points while the minimum daily pointd allowance weent from 30 to 23 made it awfully suspicious. Because everybody I know who tried to follow SmartPoints immediately stopped drinking milk to save the 9 points per day.

My solution was to stop following Smartpoints and track on MFP. My friends had switched to LoseIt sometime during PointsPlus; only a couple of them even tried SmartPoints Freestyle—recently—and one gave up on it pretty quickly. I began tracking standard NI sometime during PointsPlus due to my need for carb counting.
