"The office candy dish is like the watering hole in the Serengeti: If you observe long enough and don't spook the more timid creatures, you'll get a peek into the inner workings of an entire social ecosystem." www.washingtonpost.com/graphics/health/candy-dish/

Interesting. I remember keeping my team and others in candy when I was working. It was always appreciated and a few did help replenish.

Before I retired from my last job I always had a candy desk for team members.I didn't like dark chocolate(way before WW)so I would pick those out and give them to my team leader who loved them.I never expected anyone to stock it and I did it at holidays only. However my team leader was a GS leader and she would lug that big box of cookies in every year.Guess who bought them?Yeah all the team members.

Good read! TY..One of my co-workers made me a wooden bowl out of a grapefruit tree and I have been using it as my candy dish for years : -). I put it right by the vendor sign in sheet on the front counter...just about everyone takes a piece or 2.. They seem to love chocolate and I like to bring it in and the sales after a holiday...

In order to have the time to develop the study, do the research, take the photos, prepare the graphs and write up the story, these are people who really don't have enough to do!

This is fascinating! There are a couple of candy dishes in our office. We have mints at reception (chocolates during the holidays) and there is one assistant who has chocolates at her desk. One person with an office that I can think of has candy on her desk. We often have other treats around as well.
I try to stay away from the treats. I am much more likely to indulge when the office is closed and I'm working. I'm also much more likely to continue to indulge once I start.
